Probably the best value consumer NVMe drive on the market right now at these prices. Well reviewed, caveat being it is DRAM-less, but it's rare you're going to run into an issue with this updated module.

    god damn it

Mine's coming up as $230.37 for the 2TB one (Prime)

    • They both literally just updated for me, updating the title now.

    • Thanks, pulled the trigger on your comment.

      This is your fault :)

    • i just got robbed by 10$ wtf.

      • Amazon charge the lowest price before delivery

        • I think that's only for pre-orders.

The problem is dram-less will inevitably be slower as nand is slower than dram.

    • Towards capacity, that's true, but these use free space as an SLC cache and it gets the job done for so many use cases. It's a really great advancement of the tech, and you can see that it rewards the consumer with 2TB not costing a fortune.

  • +1

Suppose this doesn’t pass the PS5 compatible test?

    • +1

It's below recommended speeds (and not recommend in general because of the tech in use), but it's fine for read use, and a little slower at times for write. That's it, though you may need a heatsink.

If you're looking at the 1TB anyway, you've got the option of the SN850 for a little extra.

    DRAM-less
rare you're going to run into an issue

    I would argue thats contradictory

    • Obviously there will be issues as you hit capacity, but it's pretty impressive even as it does so.

Most caching and IO queue requirements don't ruffle it.

      • been trying to find decent prices on ssd for a project drive and a cache drive, so in my scenario DRAM-less would be a waste of money, although given the lack of a price gap…

      • +1

when you say 'as you hit capacity', what sort of size you are referring to? is it like 10GB till the drive is full? more? less?

        • For DRAM-less NVME, SLC Cache size is very much depending on drive type and size. For eg, a Sammy 980 1TB has a 160GB cache.

          https://www.techpowerup.com/review/wd-black-sn770-1-tb/6.htm…

The 1TB SN770 cache is 325GB of SLC which is about 975GB TLC.
So as soon as you fill it, the SLC cache gets smaller. Say you fill up to 300GB of porn, your SLC cache will reduce to about 200GB. Which is still plenty.

          USB Enclosures
There's another thing about these DRAMless drives is it sucks the host memory(HMB) like a tiny leech. So if your planning to use it as an external drive, make sure it supports HMB otherwise it wont be as fast.

  • thanks

  • sn850 or this os and gaming drive?

    • This is great for 2TB, and if you think you'll be using 1TB and doing a lot of writing and filling of the drive, the SN850 edges out.

  • +1

wont be filling and really only for windows and warzone 1tb im looking at cheers i grabbed the sn850 idont care about price just after best drive for my needs

    thanks

  • During 14% cashback period I purchased a2000 for $153. It works $134 after cb but feeling like robbed, lol

  • Corsair MP600 Core 2tb is better deal - has DRAM for $19 more

    https://www.bpctech.com.au/product/cssd-f2000gbmp600cor-cors…

    • +1

In the context of read and copy speeds, the SN770 is anywhere from 20 to 100% faster. The MP600 thrives at sequential read and write, but it was early PCIE 4.0 tech.

It's also about half as power efficient in usage. Definitely up for consideration, but the better conversation is if the SN850 appears again as a $280ish deal via Amazon US.

  • How do these compare to the Samsungs? Been hanging out for one of those instead but should I bite the bullet on this?

    • +1

For most consumer use cases, it's going to thrash current Samsung offerings.

PCIE 5.0 should usher in some new offerings, but that's the state of play for now.

  • +1

    I got one with at $125 with 14% cashback :D = $107.50 cheapest ps5 drive :D

    • Damn did you do a buzzer beat with cash rewards?

      • 5:50 pm :p

  • Cheers nabbed a 1T for now $119 after $3 back for $100 GC from shopback.

Can someone suggest an enclosure to put 2TB one?

  • How's warranty/ACL and returns handled when the item is from Amazon UK?

    • +1

You will return to a AU address, How do I know? because I ordered one Samsung ssd from UK last year, and they send me a book How To Die Alone.

      • WOW! what a title for a book.

  • Amazon reviews of this aren’t exactly great. I was about to grab a 2TB to go in my Aya Neo Next but I think I’ll pass.

  • Can't deliver to PO Boxes sadly. Does anyone have any idea on how you could possibly get around this. I normally dont have an issue with PO Boxes when it's from Amazon AU but it may be because this is Amazon UK

    • Yeah UK is the issue, do they not offer a click and collect from a local venue?

      • Sadly not but I convinced the boss at work to have it delivered there thank goodness

  • +1

    Got mine today

    • Same, enjoy!
