        Genius. Are you Shakespeare reincarnated?

  • Surely a pricing error

  • Unavailable now

  • good deal

  • Damn cheap.
Paid $40 for the DT65 on a massive price drop a month back, doesn't look like much of a difference.

    Great device.

  • Make sure you check if your car really supports it if you're buying one of these in the future. My 90 Series Prado is a 2000 model and doesn't support OBD2

    • Obd2 port has 16pins so check that

I've owned this car for 12 years and have checked everything.

There is no OBD2 compatibility with this car.

Doing some research, here is a clear answer:
I believe the 90 series is not OBDII compliant.
It is either a Toyota system or a early OBD version, either way you cannot access engine data through the diagnostic port with a standard OBDII tool.

I've done extensive research on this and found there are ways to access the car's computer to diagnose it. The workarounds have something to do with OBD1.

Not sure why the downvotes lol. It's an old car, what do you expect? :/

        • I think it is the same with Prado 120 2006. I am not good at car thus gave up!

        • It's quite strange, as I remember something about obd2 being a requirement by the EU or something, and so everyone got with the program. Did they not make that Prado for the EU or make 2 versions?

Edit: it was the US actually, and from '96

        • All Toyota's in Australia have this issue pre 2006. It was compulsory in America 1996 onwards. 2006 Oz.

    • yeah, you need OBD1

      great post here about it

      • Yup that's right. I know someone who managed to diagnose their 90 last week. They found one fault being reported.

Even the early Prado 120's with the 1KZ only had basic Toyota MOBD (Multiplex On Board Diagnostic) and OBD2 didn't become a thing until 2006 with the 1KD/1GR. The 90 series only has basic sensors, so there's not a lot of info to obtain from them.

Look in to Toyota Techstream, it's a dealer software for Toyota's that is ahem available on various forums for free.

Cheers. Didn't realize they took all the way until 2006 to implement OBD2.

I'll have a look at Techstream for sure :)

        • Yes unfortunately 2006 is when OBD2 become a requirement in Australia. Before then manufacturers were all over the place with what they used and supported. I remember my VL Commodore you had to turn a screw to enable diagnostic mode, then it had a red and a green led that would flash. The red was 10 and the green was 1. So two red and one green flash was 21, which you looked up on a chart lol.

It's a pain, i had the same issue with my 90 series Prado you can't get advanced diagnostics, run a ScanGauge etc.

      • Thank for your knowlege mate, I have Prado 120 2006. I bought several OBD2 Scanners but don't work and finally give up.

        • Hmm what engine do you have? And was it built in 2005 or 2006?

  • Does it read transmission data?
