  • Oh great, so now they'll be blasting music at full volume when they rip past me in a quiet park on a Sunday morning.

    • atleast you'll be able to hear them coming

      • True, give me an extra second to jump out of the way and/or prepare my arm for a clothesline.

    • I've always been tempted to get a train horn for all those people in the dedicated cycling tracks instead of the pedestrian lanes right next to them. I feel that'd be way too rude.

      • -2

If someone blasted a train horn at me from a few feet away, whatever they're riding is going in the river. Or perhaps press assault charges. Either way.

        • Officer he beeped loudly at me….get him!🤣

          • @Spendmore: Train horns can reach 175 decibel. Permanent hearing damage can occur instantly at 120 decibel.

I don't know if you've ever had tinnitus, but it can straight (profanity) your life up

            • @TheRealCJ: I imagine a few people could have a heart attack too from something like that!

            • +1

@TheRealCJ: "train horn". Rather I meant something loud. People walking in bike lanes let alone the road when there's a footpath is dangerous.

              • @Clear: Oh well an air horn I'd have no problem with, as long as you aren't holding it too close to people's heads

        • You would be within your rights. They wouldnt.

    • You got a chuckle out of me.

In all seriousness though I recognized the Segway name, is this what a lot of companies do these days? Branch out into random products?

    • Means you have time to clothesline them.

    • You sound old.

      • -1

        Nah, just ride big-boy pushbikes.

  • Does this shape remind anyone of… The Core?

  • That is one expensive backpack

    • Tell that to JB Hi-Fi. Alternatively slap a Gucci logo on it and it'll be worth 5x more.

      • I watched House of Gucci on Prime Video recently. Had no idea about the history of Gucci, well then again I am not that into fashion.
It's directed by Ridley Scott so was worth watching since it will likely be a coherent film.
I knew who Tom Ford is though, I learned about his history and success with Gucci through the film. But I knew Tom Ford as a "fashion designer turned film director" from his recently directed films.

        • 1940s? ;)

  • The bluetooth speaker is $139 shipped on Amazon. Not much of a discount?

    • And? This is still cheaper.

      • 3x Camels shows the wrong price, but price seems to be a straight line making $139 standard price.
So I'm thinking 115/139 = 0.82 means 17% discount and it's from an eBay seller with 238 feedback.

Just letting others know the discount may not be as big as it seems.

        • $139 is the standard price from AZAU on Amazon. While elsewhere they and others have it for $179-$199 so I'd assume like Luckymi they're trying to clear stock. Luckymi also get their stuff from Panmi, so their stock is legitimate Xiaomi Australia and they'd be safe.

          • @Clear: Yeah I am not trying to say the product is fake.

And in my past experience, as long as the item is fulfilled by Amazon returns are easy and problem free.
I have not shopped on eBay in a goodwhile, what is your recourse if the product is faulty? Do they still support PayPal payments? In which case can you just do a chargeback if the seller does not comply?

          • @Clear: Hi Clear,

Can I just confirm with you that the statement you said earlier
"Luckymi also get their stuff from Panmi," is accurate?

I'd just like to confirm the relationship between these 2 companies, I assume Panmi is the distributor while LuckyMi is one of their exclusive partners or resellers?

            • @scrimshaw: Yes that statement is correct. Panmi is the distributor of Xiaomi to distros like Ingram and stores like JB and Luckymi. They're not the same company.

  • Looks like Jack has entered the chat

    Prices now Light - $96 (71.38), Speaker $199 (165.17) and Backpack $119 (98.77)

Or maybe I am doing something wrong.

    • Did you apply the code PLJL17?

      • The bracket values are the code prices - this is what comes up under the show me how. But the links above have a higher start price now.

Buy It Now price: AU $86.00
        Discount amount:-AU $14.62
        Your price: AU $71.38

        • The seller was probably supposed to remove the 30% discount, and only offer the 17% applied by the code.
At least if my maths is not rusty 17% of $86 is roughly $14.

Funnily enough the Luckymi seller stepped in and reduced their price on Amazon for the speaker to "$126 + $9.99" so their listing shows by default on the link I previously shared.

Clicking through to the seller feedback though shows 25% negative feedback in the last 30 days.

Yeah no thanks, I recommend paying $139 from AZ eShop it's also fulfilled by Amazon AU.

          • @harshbdmmaster718:

The seller was probably supposed to remove the 30% discount, and only offer the 17% applied by the code.

Nope purely intentional by the seller.

            • @Clear: Yeah I realized the fault in my comment now, when I even shared the same seller is offering it for $136 shipped on Amazon. So they are still willing to take that amount as a loss.

I think my bias was sourced from the info I heard that eBay have been forcing the losses onto their sellers, especially on these coupon sales. Probably not that different being a 3rd party seller on Amazon these days though, I wouldn't know.
I also heard Amazon have been clamping down on their 3rd party sellers, this was maybe a year ago.

  • I was going to comment this on the most recent $82 deal for the Bluetooth speaker. But that deal got removed for some reason so I will just comment it here.

So I keep reading conflicting specs on the battery life for the speaker. Some say 2 to 3 hours battery life, while other say 23 hours battery life (possible typing error?). And looking around I see the same error in specification in other places. Segway AU conveniently omits the specification.

    So which is it?

I noticed the battery is quite small for it's power output only 2200mAh for 4x 8w output so maybe 2 to 3 hours battery life is more accurate. Quite abysmal in terms of that spec.

    • I double checked with Panmi. Definitely up to 23 hours. They'll get their listing fixed.

      • It would help if I heard it from a customer who actually tested it. I am going over to youtube now to find some kind of thorough review.

For example I have the EFM Havana Bluetooth speaker, and it has the same size battery powering 2 speakers which I assume are similar in size. It achieves "Up to 7-9 hours" battery life according to the user manual which lines up with my experience. So 3 hours for the same 2200mAh powering 4 speakers makes sense to me.

Having 4 speakers driven is quite unusual though, usually a bluetooth speaker will use 1 or 2 speakers and a passive radiator design.
I am starting to think this was designed as a "engine noise speaker" first and foremost, with the ability to be used for music.

        • I double checked the battery. It's 2200mAh at 7.4V or 16.28Wh while a phone would be 2200mAh at 3.7V or 8.14Wh. it's not unreasonable to assume you can get up to 23 hours.

          • @Clear: Thanks that does explain it.
It's common for compact portable electronics such as Bluetooth speakers to use a 3.7v cell, something like a single 18650. So I just assumed that was what the Ninebot speaker used.
I found it on the eBay listing spec page "2200mAh(7.4V)". I guess driving the amplifier powering 4 speakers required higher voltage.

Just for others to be aware though the battery life is usually a "best case scenario spec" so probably at lower volume levels. Because I listen to the EFM Havana in my room I get a consistent 6+ hours out of it, but I do try to charge it before it's dead to keep the battery healthy. So the Ninebot will probably last around 14 to 18 hours at moderate volume in the same scenario. I would be happy with that.

You might want to update your post if you can or get mods to do it, price has dropped to $82.17 with PLAU15, and even lower if you have eBay plus membership and PLAU17.
