USB C Docking Station/KMV

Hey all

Seeking some advice on the best/reasonably priced docking station or kmv for:

  • 2x Dell 27 4K UHD USB-C Monitor - S2722QC 3840 x 2160 at 60 Hz 2xHDMI, USB-C

  • And some audio engine speakers connected via aux and network cable.

Ideally would like to switch between a home (desktop looking to change to laptop) and work setup. (Dell laptop with only usb c connection)

Hoping these docks run smoothly without hiccup.

Not sure if the monitors can be daisy chained?

Cheers

  • I think only the ultrasharps can be daisy-chained. A dock which has a kvm and supports multiple monitors and can switch between multiple usb-c or thunderbolt sources would be awesome. However, I don’t think one exists. Closest I know of is the monitors with built in kvm and dock.

    • Thanks for your response.

I could use the usb c port out of the monitors into the dock or alternatively get hdmi to dp cabled into a dock?

      Anyone have suggestions?

      • You could connect a usb hub to one of the downstream USB ports, but that won’t help you with switching peripherals between computers. The USB ports in the monitors do not carry any video they just allow you to connect devices to your source computer through the monitor - like a usb hub. If you want a dock which allows you to connect your laptop to your monitors and peripherals with just one cable, you will need something like the Dell 3100. If you want to support a MacBook, you would need the dell thunderbolt dock. Unfortunately neither of these docks support multiple source computers. I don’t believe there is anything on the market that does.

  • Cheers for that.

Im happy to swap plugs when switching between personal/work computers.

Only issue with d3100 is no usb c into laptop.

    • Yeah my bad that’s not the usb c version. Wd19s is usbc and wd19tbs is thunderbolt

  • Another option is to RDP to the other box, if you're using Windows on both

  • we have WD19S at work and it works well and also charges your laptop at the same time
