TP-Link Deco X73-DSL AX5400 WiFi 6 Modem Router - $243 + Delivery (Free C&C) @ The Good Guys Commerical (Membership Required)

100

Was on the hunt for a new modem router for my good ole FTTN connection and stumbled upon this little gem.

Just released a few months ago, everywhere else is selling at RRP $399.

Reviews on Amazon/GoodGuys look very promising.

Works well with all the other TP-Link Deco range.

  • what's the difference between this and the DECO X20-DSL modem router?

  • 5400mbps speed? X20 is att AC1800 I think

  • I got one from Amazon decent router but very basic functionality, great for those who don't care about tweaking ports just something that sets something up out of the box. Wish I had know that but it's fixed a few other issues I had with my old setup so it's a good interim

    • Does the 2.4G work with 5G? My 2.4G doesn't work if I have 5G running and with different SSID

      • works as a single ssid so the idea its a mesh hub and you could add extra nodes in the future to fix dead spots.

I cant remember if it gave me the option to split the wifi but devices chose which is the best connection that it can connect with (ie I have things that only use 2.4 and others have both and it decides based on device)

Its very simplistic but I have found it quite reliable since buying it and I havent had any issues with it

      • "Tell me you don't know how WiFi works without telling me"
Sorry I am being too harsh, this is one of the most commonly asked questions.
Bottom Line, for maximum speed, leave both 2.5 and 5g bands enabled on the same SSID. Remember 5g speeds drop off quickly and 2.4g may be faster\more reliable. You devices and the router have so much tech, that enables them to move between bands as they require.
Options can change with Firmware, but to answer your question yes, you can set the main network to 5g with SSID A and Guest to SSID B and then disable (guest isolation). But really you should not do this with mesh, at least have both 2.5 and 5g enabled on the main SSID. I have just 2.5 enabled on my guest.

    • If it's that basic then may as well get a VX420-G2v off Gumtree/Facebook Marketplace. It comes with TPG plans and a lot of people are selling them boxed for sometimes less than $100.

Though I don't believe it supports mesh.

If you do not need the Modem part, the TP-Link Archer X73 AX5400 Router is also available for $212 with free C&C on Goodguys Commercial.

I bought one yesterday but no local stock so had to pay $8 delivery and waiting till it arrives.

Better off getting the non modem version.
      Dsl ver is dual core
      Non Dsl quad core

      • Do you need to do video conversions on your router? If you get a vdsl version you don’t need to bridge your modem for those on FTTN

        • no, do you? Not sure how your comment is relevant or helpful.

If you're paying for a router to be a router, then get the better router?

    • Hi Mate, I cant seem to find the X73 AX5400 router only on TGGC.

Couldn’t find anyone selling at $399, most are around the $280-$299 mark

Looks to be $399 most places, you might be looking at a different model.

  • I have a archer VR600 modem/router with a deco X68 plugged into one of the ethernet ports and then another Deco in the main living area. I think i have the deco in set Access Point mode.

Is there much benefit of replacing the VR600 with this? The VR600 does not support wifi 6 but i dont have many devices that do. I figure the deco is providing strong wifi6 connectivitiy upto the VR600 which is then just being a modem (esp if i put it in router mode). I am limited to my FTTN connection speed anyway.

    VR600: 300Mbps (2.4GHz) and 1300Mbps (5GHz)
    X73-DSL: 574 Mbps (2.4 GHz) 4804Mbps (5 GHz)

  • Sorry this might be a silly question, but if anyone can help - If I purchase this Deco to replace my ISP (Vodafone) provided modem router, put the Deco in bridge mode, and connect it my existing Asus ZenWifi triple mesh system, are there any foreseeable issues that could arise?

The reason I am considering this option is because my current Vodafone modem/router and Asus mesh setup is having trouble with dual NAT (as confirmed when I try to play online games on my console/PC). The Vodafone does not have a simple bridge mode to switch to, so I tried turning off all the router related settings manually on the Vodafone, but then I had a DHCP failure detected on the Asus.

Basically, currently I have: Vodafone (manually turned off router settings) -> Asus Mesh -> End Device (not working due to DHCP failure)
and what I'm thinking of doing is: Deco (in bridge) -> Asus Mesh -> End Device (either wifi or ethernet)

Sorry for the long post, just seeking advice as the above deal seems pretty good if it solves my problems. Have a great day!

  • Apologies if this is a dumb question but would this modem router work for FTTB? We are moving into a 2 bedroom apartment this weekend and looking to pick up a good modem router. Max download speeds with our ISP is 100 mbps download / 20 upload. Would this overkill? Note, none of our devices are wifi 6 compatible but don't mind a bit of future proofing if this is a good value for money proposition. Thanks in advance.

  • I was just about to purchase the X20 when came on here for a look at pricing for it. I was able to get the X73 for similar price thanks to this!

  • For those who haven't got access to TGG Commercial. I just pricematched at Officeworks using this ebay seller's product. Got it down to $284.

  • Reduced to $238 now on Good Guys commercial.

    • no its still showing for $243 on GGC

  • Does it support roc and soc?

  • Bought one.

A question, I will use the deco on FTTN.

Can I use an existing Tp Link wifi extender and connect to the Deco X73-DSL?
