Risk of Hiring a Car Option for Not at Fault Car Accident

While I was happy with my delivery of free Lenovo backpack ($100) an unfortunate event happened to me last night that my car was hit in the rear by the other party driver which we agreed that this is not at my fault.
We exchanged contact numbers, car regos etc and I contacted my insurer AAMI to sort things out.
AAMI said they can organise hire a car for me (no excess) which I had included on my comprehensive insurance, but AAMI can't say if hiring a car would leave a dent in my insurance record and potentially cause a premium increase in future (because I used this option causing financial loss to them).
Does anyone know this?

    What?

AAMI just bill car hire out to the other party.

Nice, sounds like OP's in the clear!

Hear that OP? Lucky you're with AAMI 🎵, hey?

    • Not sure if they will pass that cost to the the other party, but car hire was an option to add with extra cost from me so I think they will foot the bill?

I have just moved my sons car insurance over to AAMI (they were over $300 cheaper) and I called to see if they had the same inclusions as NRMA. I was told that if he was in an accident and the other driver was at fault, they would organise a hire car for the period his car was in for repair once he had the dates booked in and it would be charged back to the person who's at fault's insurance company. It would not affect his insurance in the future as he was not at fault. My daughter has just gone through the same thing with NRMA and they billed it back to the person at faults insurance. You don't claim the hire car from your insurance unless it's your fault otherwise it may affect your future premiums.

        • Thanks that totally makes sense and acceptable 👍

          • @Unacceptable: I world expect that they will pass the cost onto the other party, and it affects their premium .

            • @BewareOfThe Dog: They can't pass the cost of the time to organise it. Staff don't work for free

You might want to hire a new E key, your current one seems like it got stuck. Not sure how it'll affect your premiums tho.

I'm confused with this piece of information combined with the main point of this post.

Is your backpack OK or not?

The backpack of the driver behind flung forward upon impact and landed in the custom sunroof on OP's Toyota Camry.

Not for a not at fault accident. It shouldn’t anyway.

    Those plums at AMMi should.
    Try escalating it with them.

Did AAMI have a free backpack offer?

  • Don't go near your own insurance as this will increase your premium (regardless of the fact you are not at fault)
There are quite a few companies that provide free loan cars to those that are not at fault. They handle all of the paperwork and claim on the other parties insce.

    • Unacceptable mate.

I am sure your reply makes sense to you but stuffed if I know what you mean?

What is with people who fork out for insurance but are terrified to make a claim in case their premium goes up?

    • Cuz it’s the accident that is not at my fault but still need to be involved with my insurance.

      • +2

You pay for insurance, you should use it unless damage is less than the excess. In this case excess would be 0 so you should always use it.

        • +2

Yes it’s kind of a waste to have it and not use it, however making a claim on your insurance potentially makes your risk profile slightly worse and may slightly increase your premium. However, this will be offset by less drama in getting your car fixed.

  • You’re not at fault. Everything will be charged to the other party. They charge you extra for car hire cover for when you are at fault (and because they just can)

  • My friend used a service called Right2Drive after a not at fault accident and I heard that worked out really well.
