2710
UNITENWELCOME

Hi Ozbargainers

This is about a 10% discount from Special Gift Cards with a maximum saving of $20 (i.e. with a $200 gift card) the categories of where you can use them are restricted though. Special Gift Cards are digital gift cards that are associated with an app.

In summary:

  • you need to apply the promo code UNITEN at purchase to get the 10% discount
  • the maximum discount is $20 (i.e. with a $200 gift card)
  • it only applies to the Latte Lover, Pub Crawler and Fine Foodie Cards
  • it is limited to the first 15,000 customers and won't go past 20 September 2022
  • one order per customer and on the front page of the site it also says "available for first time promo code users only"
  • you can add the gift card to your apple wallet or google pay or transact the card online using its standard credit/debit card numbers
  • note: reports are that if you used a promo code with them before they will block you getting the discount (i.e. using the promo code) this time

About the maximum savings, on the front page of the web site it says:

10% off with promo code… available for first time promo code users only
*T&Cs apply. Limited to Latte Lover, Pub Crawler or Fine Foodie Card, up to the value of $20. Limit one per customer.

But on their terms and conditions page (where the deal is called "O-Week Promotion") it clarifies the saving a bit better, where it says:

…entitles the customer to a 10% discount (up to the value of $20).

Thanks for the many great bargains finally I've a little something to give back, enjoy

  • Anyone tried these cards with Shopback? I know the cinema one works…

    • +9

Ok so I tested the foodie card.

It worked for Uber Eats GC

But did NOT work for ebay, shopback GC.

      • +1

I have used the super shopper gift card from special. It works on most of the local shops but some places it gets declined. I mainly use it to pay for fuel and most stores take it.

  • +2

I wonder how they put their list of retailers together.
I tried to use their super shoppers card at Daiso but failed…

    • +1

Mine didn't work at my local Aldi despite everyone else being able to

  • +10

Use at your own risk, just be aware this company posted a deal, failed to declare their association; used OzBargain to beta test their system; then with-held customers money when they decided they exploited it.

    • +6

What exactly happened? Was this the purchase of Special gift cards with Special gift cards?

      • +1

Multiple accounts, buying gift cards with gift cards… the fraudsters were rife on the previous deal. Then they’re salty when they get caught with both hands in the cookie jar

        • +5

It's much more than this. I had no involvement with that and was treated very poorly by this business weeks after that occured. Pray that nothing goes wrong with your transaction because you'll get zero help from their CS. In short, caveat emptor.

  • Meant to downvote* Not a good experience with customer service, money withheld. CC got the charge back.

    • +2

You can revoke your vote by clicking on “votes” in OP’s post -> click “Revoke”

  • What are the likelihood of getting banned and not getting money back?

    • 20% chance. I had to use a charge back to get my money back. All because I wanted to buy more than 1 gift card on the same day. Their CS is disastrous. They just don't care. Told me it was all my fault. Then blamed the bank. Then refused to respond when I left a negative review. Same issue was reported by others on another forum.

  • +6

Tried using it now and it say you have already used a past promo code.

  • +3

No dice…says in T&C cannot use if previously used a promo code which rules out most OzB users.

    • +2

T&C missed out one terms: OzB users are excluded.

    • It didn't quite dawn on me exactly what the effect of "previously used a promo code" was going to be, interesting. I haven't purchased a card through this deal yet but was getting close to getting one and yes I have previously used a promo code with them. I've only used the Super Shopper and that's worked well for me. I guess my current account is blocked for this and probably my phone number.

      • Well if you attempt it just errors and says used promo code before - so it stops you anyway. Thought I would see what happens if I tried as I thought that’s was what it meant. My accounts never been blocked and I’ve used it for the first deal that was on OzB in April and an American Express deal we had last month. Accounts still active but I’ve used those cards in ShopBack just to avoid any issues.

        • It looks like they aren't allowing any account/purchaser that used a promo code before from taking up this offer, I'll add that to the description

          • @franek: Will they know you're a previous purchaser if you set up a new account with a different email but have no choice but to use a previously used mobile number? (all my numbers were used from their last promo).

            • @alidli: Most likely you will not be able to register an account. If you can and purchase a card make sure you copy the details and spend it straight away. Let us know how you go.

              • @Yola: How did you go?

  • +3

    A very dishonest business. Beware.

    • +1

Store Rep had his virgin post, not noticed by many.

      • I reckon he’s been watching the forums like a hawk since day 1 as a user literally linked the original thread on one of Special’s Facebook posts.

    • never trust them again, they are scam

      • You need to tell us what happened to you?

  • +2

Can't believe they have audacity to post again after previous incidents.

  • +9

    Some pro-tips:

    • The Pub Crawler gift card should work at bottleshops, because some bottleshops (e.g. BWS, First Choice Liquor) are listed as featured retailers. That means you should be able to use a Pub Crawler gift card at Liquorland, First Choice Liquor or Vintage Cellars to purchase a Coles Group & Myer gift card. It worked last month, and I cannot see why it would not still work. Hopefully staff know how to load a Coles Group & Myer gift card!

    • My recent experiences indicate that BWS and Dan Murphy’s only sell BWS and Dan Murphy’s gift cards (respectively) that can only be redeemed at their respective stores.

    • Someone claimed that they used a Latte Lover gift card at Woolworths in late June. Considering Woolworths has an MCC of 5411 (unless your transaction includes EFTPOS cashout), it also means that it should be redeemable on the Woolworths Group gift card portal operated by Woolworths on their website, which includes the discounted gift card portal you can access through NSW/VIC Seniors Card, automotive clubs, Student Edge, etc. I’m not completely surprised about this, as most Woolworths Metro stores have a barrister.

    • -1

Latte Lover worked for me on Shopback.

      • What did u buy? Superswap or just foodie card like Ubereats?

        • I bought Airbnb but I assume Superswap would've worked as well. Comment linked above also said they were able to buy GC on SB.

          • +1

@76F: it doesn't work for superswap

            • @peter05: Thanks for confirming. I need Coles, so I guess just have to get the Pub and go to First Choice store as Wookie said

            • -2

@peter05: Oh well – seems like they've updated it since I purchased last month.

    • @WookieMonster: On the description of their cards they list specific shops do you think that's just an approximation and they really use merchant codes?

      • +1

I think it's really just an approximation and Special uses MCCs, but they're quite opaque about it. Here's what makes me this:

        • Gift cards that are only redeemable at a specific list of retailers (e.g. TCN HER/HOME/TEEN etc gift cards, Ultimate gift cards) use unique identifiers in EFTPOS terminals (and I presume something similar for online transactions) to determine whether you're at the correct retailer. However, considering Special gift cards can only be redeemed for some gift cards on Shopback, plus you can some gift cards outside Special's list of retailers, it strongly hints at MCCs being used instead.

        • Special's list of retailers is only for featured retailers, plus they give a number in the 10000s or even 100000s for the number of retailers each gift card works at. When I see the word featured, it means "this is a list of some of the retailers that accept our gift card, but it is not an exhaustive list".

        • The language used on each Special gift card page hints at MCCs being used. For example, the Super Shopper Card can be used at shopping retailers Australia-wide, the Chill Seeker Card can be used at spa & massage retailers Australia wide, the Fine Foodie Card can be used at every restaurant, whether it’s 5-stars or drive-thru Australia wide. Each bolded item is broadly aligned to a MCC or MCC grouping, although I think a lot of us know by now that Special has a relatively broad range of permitted MCCs for most of their gift cards (at least when compared with TCN Restaurant gift cards or OnlyONE Home Improvement & DIY gift cards, as examples).

        • The fact that some Special gift cards don't work at gift card portals (e.g. Chill Seeker), but others do (e.g. Super Shopper) hints at the fact that Special is using MCCs.

    • +3

most Woolworths Metro stores have a barrister

I really like a company that gets technical with their coffee preparation

      • +1

Lol I always mix the two words up when I spell them!

    • +25

I took one for the team! I purchased a $200 Latter Lover gift card.

      1. It does not work on Shopback. The payment was rejected.
      2. It works on Woolworths' online portal for buying a gift card.

I get 4% off for gift card purchases at Woolies (with Woolworths mobile). So I bought a $208.33 value Woolies gift card for $200.

So, the total value achieved: was $208.33 for spending $180. Not bad for 10 minutes of work, and earning $28.33 to spend at Woolies. But it was risky and stressful when Shopback didn't work (I guess the worst-case scenario was to go to cafes more often for the next week).

But anyway, I did this for the Ozbargain community!

      • I took one for the team! I purchased a $200 Latter Lover gift card

Excellent choice. You get the benefit of all their previous experience

      • +2

Thanks jakxon. You gave me the confidence to buy a Latte Lover to use at Woolies. Good to combine with the new 5% extra value deal.

        • Did it work? A second data point would be helpful.

          • +4

@capslock: Yep. $180 for spent on $200 Latte Lover card which was then used to at Woolies and received $210 value Woolies gift card.

            $210 value for $180 out lay = ~14.3% off

            • @sween64: Awesome! Thanks for sharing!!

            • +1

@sween64: Thanks. I just did the same and was also successful.

            • @sween64: Looks like it doesn't work to buy Wollies Gift cards anymore :(

        • successful here as well. Thanks.

      • +1

It looks like Woolworths has patched this, see here

  • +1

whats their merchant code? mcc i wonder if it will count for citibank promo spend to get another 5%?

    • +1

I just asked them this morning, 5818, which is on the list. So bought with citi card too :)

      • Customer service exists!

  • +4

Avoid this business. Their payment system rejects my cards for no reason. I only bought one card with them before and that was fine. The issue is they rejected it 3 times, but the transactions went through my bank fine. Even if it showed as pending only, my balance was still reduced and stayed like that for several days so I couldn’t use that card for a week.

    • +1

'Their payment system rejects my cards for no reason.' I'm sure that they tried to blame either you or your bank for this!

  • Yeah… nah.

    Next!

  • +1

I remembered the UNITEN code was available before, see https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/709236?page=2#comment, then it was disabled by Special. Now it can be used again to lure more customers.
Not going to neg the deal, but remember to use gift card balance ASAP.

    • then it was disabled by Special

Coz there were CBA and Amex cashback offers at that time.

  • +2

the pub cards do not working in the first choice store.

  • +2

the pub cards do not working in vintage cellars too.

    • A new low, disregarding the fact that it is still listed.

  • +2

don't buy it. their card is not working as advertised

  • +2

the pub cards do not working in Dan Murphys too too.

    • +2

do not working at Dan Murphys online shopping as well.

      • +1

Wow, so the cards pretty much can’t work on any liquor store?

  • +3

this company is hopeless. I wish CBA burned all the money they invested and pull out :)

  • +1

Oh yeahhhh just commenting so I can add another neg:)

  • Does the WELCOME code works similarly to UNITEN?

    • +1

Yes, same condition. U can only use 1 or the other I think

  • +1

I've never used a code before on this site yet my payment fails.

    • +2

Never failed for me. Own 5 accs. Use Zip, Amex in GPay mainly.

  • I got a new credit card and used it, and order is being reviewed :(

    • +2

Unfortunately order being reviewed = order rejected. You need a new number, email and IP address to be sure.

      • Should I call bank to chargeback or the pending transaction will disappear?

        • You can't start a chargeback until a transaction has been settled. They are most likely to drop the transaction but shit happened to others before. If you happen to be unlucky then you can contact the bank for chargebacks AFTER the transaction has been settled in a few days.

          • @truetypezk: Thank you
I used new phone number and new email, but really don't have new IP address :(
was thinking using this gc on wws 5% extra value

            • +1

@RTY: Just do it on your phone with a cellular connection, easiest way to IP hop.

I heard woolies is actively cancelling purchases made with prepaid cards though so you may need to use it in store.

            • @RTY: Did you use a new name? The pending transaction disappeared off my card the next day.

              • @JIMB0: I did, but for email I used username+special1@gmail. It still didn't work second time after I used cellular connection.

                • @RTY: That is not a new email address, you need a proper one.

                  • @truetypezk: I used all extra phone numbers now…can I use those again? (since order didn't go through)

  • Fine Foodie includes Deliveroo.
