  • Got one before. Just bought the 2nd one. Thx for the post

USB-A ports are USB 2.0 only according to the description, so this is DP 1.2 based. With USB 2.0, it applies to the USB-A ports, card reader and the LAN port.

I guess if you have older devices or Android phones and want 4K/60Hz, this is fine (since going for a DP 1.4 based dongle means you can only get 4K/30Hz).

  • Legend, been hanging out for a little USB hub. This'll do just lubbly

Reviews are pretty horrendous - USB2.0 Hub is a deal killer. Ethernet port is also sketchy?

You cannot get gigabit ethernet with USB 2.0 so the LAN port won't be gigabit ethernet (probably 100Mbits). This dongle is essentially a USB-C to HDMI dongle, but it wired the backward compatible USB 2.0 pins to USB-A ports, card reader and LAN port. All those run through the same USB 2 pipe so if you use a flash disk, SD card and LAN all at the same time, they all share that limited USB 2.0 bandwidth.

That's why it is at this price.

      • Thanks Netsurfer, I've seen a few of your comments regarding hub and additional displays as quite valuable. I'm trying to navigate my way through finding a usb -c to usb A (2.0 and 3.0) ports hub with sd card reader as well. Don't need extra display capabilities or LAN port, but and would like reasonable quality. Anything you would recommend? There are so many options and knowing good from bad is challenging.

The type of product you want isn't very cost effective and anything USB-C isn't clearcut, even if you ruled out needing external display support.

          • Do you need/want one that supports USB 3.2 gen 2? We can rule out Thunderbolt 3 / 4 because the chipset is too expensive the maker has to offer more than just USB-A ports and a card reader.
          • Is there any charging requirement (i.e. need to be able to charge your phone, or power multiple USB storage devices).
          • How good does the card reader part need to be?

Found a product on Amazon (just an example, not recommending it since I have no experience with it): https://www.amazon.com.au/Sabrent-Port-Micro-Reader-HB-U3CR/…

My main concern with USB-C/A hubs is that, most of them may not draw enough power to power every single port + card reader when they are being used concurrently (and it depends on how much power that port can draw, especially if it is a desktop or laptop port that doesn't support charging). Ones which support external power source may require an additional port being used (or need a power adapter) - not ideal. USB-C hubs might be slightly better because proper USB-C should support at least 5V 3A (however, there is no guarantee because there are devices with USB-A port design, but USB-C plug).

These 7/8-in-one combo hubs / dongles have a more complex chipset in it so it does draw more power, but it's not 100% good because they do draw / need more power even when not used (hence why you see comments like blah blah blah dongle/hub doesn't work with Google TV Chromecast - because when the source device doesn't let you draw that much power, they won't function properly). Also, due to the hub / dongle needing power itself, it is not 100% power passthrough, so if you use original charger, the max current you get is after deducting power usage of the hub / dongle and that tends to affect every voltage level, including 5V.

Yeah, no deal for USB 2.0 ports. I'm over that.
I saw the blue in the USB sockets and ordered, but cancelled when I saw the comments above.

These things are absolute shite. I've tried a couple and they can't cope and just flake out. One of mine the screens worked for 2 days then stopped.

Pay a bit more for a decent hub.

    • Can you please contact us via mail [email protected] with your order number? We have a warranty for this product

      Thanks

  • Don’t buy this shite! Mine died after two months of light use.

  • From the comments it doesn’t sound like this is that great. What’s the next best usb hub?

    • It's complicated. There are many different types of these dongles / hubs:

      • DP 1.2 based, 4K 30Hz maximum with USB 3.0 support
      • DP 1.2 based, 4K 60Hz maximum with USB 2.0 support (this one)
      • DP 1.4 based, 4K 60Hz maximum with USB 3.0 support
      • DP 1.4 based, 8K maximum with USB 2.0 support (technically possible, but hardly see them available)

With DP 2.0 being added to USB 4 / USB-C alt-mode, more combinations will be available. Also, it is not just picking DP 1.4, if your device is only DP 1.2 capable, picking DP 1.4 would generally mean it will run in DP 1.2 mode, but can run into compatibility issues.

  • I have been using this hub. I got it at work through Winc but I'm pretty sure that this is the same model available online via Big W.

    • 4K is only @30Hz on that one

  • Is there a working code for the one with 2 hdmi ports (HARIBOL Triple Display USB C HUB with 2 HDMI, 8 in 1 USB-C)? I am looking for something to set up a triple display environment.

  • I purchased one of these previously and as many people have stated, the speeds are poor. Transferring from sd is stupid slow.

  • MEH . Again they are on here !!!

  • Probably won't help anyone as they're unavailable now, but I have this similar model > https://www.amazon.com.au/gp/product/B09B9S9DFL/ref=ppx_yo_d…
It's been fantastic for our WFH setup for 12 months or so (HP Elitebook & Microsoft Surface Book)
