Prosmoke charcoal
One of the best from a mainstream store imho
Buy 2 bags for $90 which makes it $10 a bag cheaper than headbeads lump and its way better stuff anyway

Yeh i just use papertowel sprayed with cooking oil and scrunch it up one or 2 pieces
Might have to give it a try
The 3 for 2 on selected bbq rubs is also a decent deal
Slightly cheaper than bunnings black bag (20kg) but not worth the hassle… At least for me.
Its far better than what you get at bunnings
During covid they did $35 delivered , was a good deal , still got some left
What hardwood is it? Guessing it's imported?
I was tempted to try this after bunnings raised the price of the Heat Beads lump. But all the bad reviews put me off so i just stuck with the Heat Beads brand. Has anyone had experience with both?
Heat Beads Lump from Bunnings is now $69.98????
damn, was $55 two days ago..
Holy crap, that's why I commented the way I did above.
It's already had a massive hike recently. $70 is just madness.
Makes this look like a bargain
Gidgee is at $70 a bag!! Was $35 for 20kg.
Ouch, glad I grabbed 5 bags at $55 a couple weeks ago, should get me through the next year or so.
After the long hiatus in stock at at Bunnings and countless other terrible options I stocked up this time
Does anyone know where I can get the hexagon tube type of charcoal that's used at Korean n Japanese bbq places?
Ive seen those at Bunnings from time to time
They’re called Honeybrix. Amazon along with a few other places sell them.
The Greek deli in preston market sells it. Also has pitboss charcoal there which is not bad for 32 bucks a bag for 12kg.
Which one?
Psarakos in Thornbury also has pitboss and honeybrix FYI
If you're in Brisbane, this is one place to shop - https://www.charcoalbrisbane.com.au/bbq-charcoal/#briquettes
No prices on website…?
Yeah, its painful. You have to call or visit.
@CrawlB4uBall: Man what is this.. 1999?! 😅
A bit far for me.. shame
https://firebrandbbq.com.au/product/firebrand-professional-b…
It's called Firebrand. They once sponsored ABA etc.
I've been burnt (lol) with this brand in the past, tiny pieces similar to tan bark in size (also full of stones!) Great for a quick steak sear but not ideal for low and slow. I ended up using half the bag as bio char in my compost it was that useless!
Kamado Joe Big Block is fantastic but rarely in stock (and expensive). I don't mind the Heat Beads Lump but I'm not actually convinced it's proper charcoal, sometimes it produces too much smoke and leaves a yellow tinged ash rather than clean white ash. My experience with American brands at Que Club has been mixed too, sometimes they are also super small chunks. I usually fall back on Heat Beads as it's super consistent in size
Gotta.buy the 18kg bag
The other size bags are different stuff
If you look carefully youll see different descriptions on the bags
This. The 18kg bag has decent chunks
The bag i got pretty much is logs stacked in a bag , if anything its a bit too big lol
Need some smaller pieces for my mini chimney
You can get Red Gum or Iron Bark 20Kg for about $45…. better taste than hardwood….
Where abouts? Have a link?
I certainly do:
Aaawww “Not to WA”
@Slimyfish: We're not allowed nice things over here 😭
It's 50 + gst + shipping. Works out to be more than bunnings black bag (more than $70 to Sydney metro)
Thanks .. just bought 2 bags, will pick it up on Thursday
Can we burn this to heat the house?
Shhh.. don’t tell Europe…
Europe literally burns coal in houses, not charcoal. At least up until a few years ago this happened in countries like Poland before they were bribed out of it as part of EU negotiations. Coal heaters in the basement were used to run hydronic systems connected to every room. Many houses had to rip these systems out in exchange for an insulation upgrade and transition to gas heating.
Wait what? I got lost in a daydream after I read "Hardwood lump" and lost track of what were were talking about.
this is tempting, but thats 36kg of bbq fuel sitting around taking up space
i have always used this https://www.bunnings.com.au/matador-10kg-premium-lumpwood-ch…
and its lasted me a fair while with once a month cook ups
I'm using some of that matador at present, my box had a lot of big solid pieces in it and I've found it to be OK.
Hahaha…I bought 5x 20kg bags when Ebay had their 50% off BBQ promo. That lasted a fair while 😜
A fair while meaning a month?
Is this African Harwood?
Tried this stuff once, as a few others have mentioned, mine only had small bits. Was good for searing but not much else
Been and still using the Heston Charcoal. Yummy stuff.
too expensive because of the heston label
Is this easy to light?
