Saw this drop in price and thought I would share it.
Might be the cheapest price I've seen for the 256GB variant, and could even be a price error considering that CCC has the lowest at $35.59.

Small life hack, keep an OTG usb in your car at all times. Has helped me out multiple times in all sorts of unexpected phone/pc trouble shooting.

  • Good enough for plugging into your Fold 4 for extra storage if you don't wanna pay $$$ for that TeeBees

  • Thanks OP got one.

With a sequential write speed of 37.5 MB/s, it would take nearly two hours to completely copy everything onto/off of this drive.

    • Why would you be doing that often enough for it to be a problem, if that's a problem get a SSD.

      • No joke…what are you expecting for $28?

I mean I guess the point is, if you don’t need that speed, you probably will never use even half of this drive because:

You either are utilising this as semi-permanent storage and keeping back ups (which is a bad idea considering reliability and speed)

Or as the commenter pointed you need more than 128gb space at one go.

Of course there will be other uses but I guess those are lower possibly perhaps considering the use cases for these?

      • That's exactly my point - this USB cannot be fully utilised by anyone. How long it takes to completely fill a drive is an important measure of its practicality.

"I don't need the speed, I won't even be filling it up that much" - then what's the point of a 256 GB drive?

"I can make use of the full 256 GB for data backups" - then the speed's going to be a problem for you

My point is that the speed and capacity are mismatched on this drive. You can't make full use of the capacity when the read/write speds are so limiting. This USB is like a ten-gallon bottle of water with a straw-sized hole.

        • My entire point is who is transfering 256GB of data at the frequency that it's going to be a big impact, if you are transfering 256GB worth of data daily for example you should not be using a USB thumbdrive. I don't think people use a thumbdrive like that honestly, I have never done that but I could be in the minority. I agree with your point if you are transfering that much data on a daily basis then this isn't for you and those people should get an external SSD or NVMe drive.

The read speed is always much faster than write, so getting stuff off shouldn't be an issue.

I got the ultra luxe at around $50 . Much faster and metal as apparently this one breaks easily

Ooft, reviews are pretty harsh on this especially about the locking mechanism

  • +7

I have one and don’t recommend it due to the soft locking mechanism

    • Yeah, I had one and you had to hold the slider to insert it into a USB port. It eventually broke and I pulled the guts out of the case and put a bit of heatshrink tubing on it for grip.

  • Price didn't last long - now $41.00

  • I paid $65 for this on the 17 July 2019 (OzB deal). Shows how much prices have been dropping

To be fair, it has been three years..

  • What an ingenious concept.👍
