      $1049.20 for S8+ Wi-Fi 128gb

  • Can you use the spend & save offer multiple times (i.e. two seperate orders over $1000 to get 2 x $150 off)?

    • +1

Yes you can. I picked up an S22 Ultra & S22+ and had the discount applied to both, also stacks with $50 off from newsletter.

I have had the standard Tab S8 for a few weeks now and have been pretty happy with it.

Having come from using iPads (6th gen iPad and 11" iPad Pro) for the last 4-5 years I was pleasantly surprised at some of the features available with the S8 but man do I wish there were some equivalent drawing apps on Android.

As a general media consumption device and for some general productivity work the S8 just seems more capable as long as you're willing to put in the time to set it up and configure it correctly but I feel like it will take some time to find decent equivalent apps on Android.

    • why this pad is so expensive?
What is the equivalent Android pad for the IPad 9th (around $400-$500) price range?

      • +1

size i think, largest screen for a tablet if im not wrong

        • I had a look on Samsung web and on the current model either S8 or A8. and the size are similar.
If I remembered it correctly, the comments from OZB for A8 tab is rubbish.
So they don't have the middle range?

@FlyingPanda99: My opinion is that the general quality of Android tablets is pretty bad. Performance is pretty lack lustre and software support is pretty average. There aren't many apps designed to work on both phone and tablet form factors (apps just launching in portrait even on a device designed to be used in landscape, etc) and the devices that are worth looking at are just ridiculously expensive.

This was part of the reason why I jumped over to an iPad in the first place but since I use both an iPhone (work) and Pixel 5 (personal) phone, I do try to be impartial when it comes to my devices but from my experience there's no equivalent on the Android side to the standard iPad (9th gen). $500 for a solid performing tablet with a decent app ecosystem (decent but not perfect), there isn't anything Android based unless you're willing to shop used or willing to wait for a special and still end up spending more.

If the Galaxy Tab S8 was made of premium plastic, had a 60Hz display, didn't come with the S-Pen but had the same software/user experience (Dex, etc) and was priced $550-$650, I'd say it was a real contender to the iPad (9th gen).

EDIT: If you can maybe have a look for the Galaxy Tab S7. The S8 is essentially just the same device but you should be able to find it at a cheaper price.

@stenchlord: My experience with iPad is almost negligible in difference to Android. For every "designed" app you are then gimped by the frustrating compaibility of files or navigation of workflow the way you want.

Drawing apps are all mitigated by use of screen mirroring from PC which is so much better on the S8.

Lastly the S8 is simply a better entertainment device when you want. Full quality of the screen is unlocked in any app that's compatible like HDR unlike the iPad Pro that leaves you locked to SDR unless it's a vetted app.

And all in all the S8 is a viable Notebook experience unlike the iPad which feels like a tablet only.

Although everyone has their personal workflows so ultimately it's a matter if trying out both.

              • @plmko: Yeah I agree with most of what you're saying. As I mentioned earlier I've been really happy with my S8 and I think for general productivity and most media consumption it's more capable than the iPads once you've put in the time to configure things to your liking.

I was replying to @FlyingPanda99 about the "budget/middle" range of Android tablets. I purchased an A8 for my mum to use and for her use case it's fine, she doesn't know anything about tech and once I've shown her how to do what she wants (which is very basic) she's fine with it, no matter that it might be a little slow but compared to a 9th gen iPad (or heck, even my 6th gen), it's a worse performer. The A8 doesn't feel as responsive and the default apps just don't perform very smoothly compared to an iPad. Only reason I got it for my mum is that she has a Samsung phone and doesn't want to "learn how to use" an iPad.

I haven't had much experience with the S6 Lite aside from general tinkering with demo units in a store though so that may have been a better option but I personally wouldn't recommend a Tab A8 for anyone who uses a phone from the last 3 years.

              • @plmko: After using iPad OS 16 on my iPad Pro with stage manager and DEX on my Fold 3, I'd rather have a Samsung! DEX is far from perfect but my god stage manager is terrible to use. After years of having various iPads I realise I mostly use it for web browsing, streaming services, notes and a few key apps (reddit / twitter etc) which all have great third party options on Android.

The S8 plus / ultra have OLED and I think the aspect ratio is better.

            • @kehuehue: Thanks, I had few NEXUS pad from Google before. I guess tablets now are more for kids to watch Youtube.

Having seen and used the Ultra, it's massive for the use case of a tablet.

Wish they had made it smaller and reduced the price tag instead.

Isn't what you're describing just the Tab S8 Plus or Tab S8?

      • -2

Definitely exclude the S8 normal as it's LCD and you can notice the difference.

But yeah the S8+ is very similar, only giving up the Ultra Wide camera and storage/RAM config options.

        • maybe they will release a fan edition

    • Maybe for your use case of a tablet, certainly not everyones.

How are there so many students on here? Share your accounts! :D

    • Not just students mate, anyone with an account that ends in .edu would be able to help you out, time to get in touch with any family & friends that work in higer ed maybe?

    • Hit up your cousins, nephews and nieces who are still at school.

  • Doesnt work for GW5 pro when adding a titanium band and fast charger to get it above $1K.

    • its mentioned right there in the 2nd line of the deal description.

"Spend over $1000 on Galaxy mobiles, tablets, buds, and watches, and receive $150 off your order. Excludes pre-order items."

        Should work after release then.

  • I miss being able to get a well designed Xperia tablet for under $500

  • You can't add to cart?
There is only a Buy Now button.
I don't see the $150 discount before the Buy Now button. Only see the 20% discount.

    • at checkout it will take the $150 off

  • I'm sure it's a great device, but that's a lot of money for a tablet.

I have the S8 Tab normal and already struggle to hold it for long hours over my head in bed. Don't know how I'd do it for the S8 Ultra!

    • +3

There are better things to do in bed, or do nothing at all (the healthy option)

    • You get one of those tablet holder.

      • Any good case for the Ultra?

        • +1

Supcase Beetle I think is a good case for the Tab S8 Ultra

  • I wonder if I placed an order tomorrow or over the weekend, how long it'd take for it to get delivered to Melbourne? Trying to work out if I can get the tax back via TRS as I fly out next month.

Recently ordered for a friend of mine and it got delivered within 3 business days.

    • +1

My last three orders from the Edu store took ~2-3 business days to arrive in VIC, all three were mobiles though so not sure if would be same for wearabes/tablets etc.Order no1 was confirmed instantly but second & third orders were delayed by 12hrs as they were "being reviewed & verified" by their team, but all in all still pretty impressed with turnaround time from them.

  • Available in EPP as well!

      • Yes, same as in this deal.

      • It is - appears as a discount at the very end of purchase before you pay.

  • Historical low for the Ultra ?

  • Can I combine 2 item to get over $1000 and get discount?

    • On EPP site if add S22 128Mb and a case which takes total over $1000 you seem get $150 off

  • is the S8U good for pdf reading like technical books?

    • I have tab s7 fe, 12.4. Big screen however it's heavy.

  • Anyone care to PM me a spare $50 voucher they don't want to use ? It's been about 7 days and I have emailed them but they keep saying to wait.
