Without even a dedicated graphics card, this computer is a very, very poor value proposition unless you want to fork out another $2000 to either buy ASUS's XG Mobile or your own eGPU. Half the appeal of this device is being able to fit an RTX 3050 Ti into this form factor (very few convertible latops come with dedicated graphics), which this specific model does not.

So true, better deal if it were 6800h

"You are treating it as if it were a gaming laptop for which it is not."

        ROG = Republic of Gamers

        Stopped reading after that

It's a crippled gaming machine with none of the benefits (no dGPU) and all of the drawbacks (pisspoor battery life, loud fans and increased weight and thickness). You either spend extra to get the model with the dGPU or don't get one at all.

I might also add that every single promotional photo in the product overview shows some sort of game on the display, which is outright misleading imo - you won't be having a good time trying to game on this.

            @Brrrrt:

mate what. just because the name have 'gamers' in it in no way signifys that every product under the name is supposed to be a gaming oriented machine?

No that's exactly what the ROG brand is meant for, GAMING. If it's not a gaming-oriented machine then it's sold under the main ASUS brand.

battery life is a fair comment, as this is a H45 chip, your comment about increase weight and thickness came from nowhere, this is no thicker nor heavier than other laptops at this form factor

It has a 34% larger volume and weighs 33% more than a Surface Pro 8.

there is no game displayed anywhere in the link OP provided, its literally an rog wallpaper

            Scroll down mate

My question is, why are you so adamant about defending this laptop? Do you own this exact model?

I cant agree with that at all, plenty of main line asus laptops can game- zenbooks can go up to to a 3070 config, asus tufs/tuf dash models goes up to 3070ti.

It has a 34% larger volume and weighs 33% more than a Surface Pro 8.

and comes with a pitful 4c8t 11th gen chip that gets obliterated by anything ryzen based let alone an intel 12th gen?

              Scroll down mate

the photos under the jb listing arent even the z13, its some random laptop jb hifi whipped up

My question is, why are you so adamant about defending this laptop? Do you own this exact model

no i dont own this laptop, I just dont see the hate for a decent deal for seemly no good reason

      • Hahaha have a look at their website, this laptop shouts “GAMER”. And as mentioned it’s the ROG line. Also this is about the only laptop in the market that comes with a proprietary eGPU module marketed towards gamers.

Please know what you are talking about.

        https://rog.asus.com/au/laptops/rog-flow/rog-flow-x13-2022-s…

I’ll save you some time and quote the first sentence of page

"Powerful Windows 11 Pro gaming has never been as flexible or portable as in the 2-in-1 2022 ROG Flow X13."

. Also this is about the only laptop in the market that comes with a proprietary eGPU module marketed towards gamers.

except theres also the x13… and theres lots of configs for both the x13 and z13, there are dgpu equipped and dgpu less options, they have different prices and suit different needs

Please know what you are talking about.

i know perfectly well what I am talking about.

you linked the x13, not the z13 in this listing, and z13's catchphrase is 'One Device. Infinite Possibilities. Infinite Play'.

sure you can say it mentions 'infinite play', but theres also the emphasis on 'infinite possibilities', signifying the potent hardware inside such a small & portable machine which would suit a variety of workloads

          • @Brrrrt: My mistake on the link, typing everything on phone and plus maybe 3AM?. But sure here z13 and yet screams “Gamer” everywhere. Interpret it however you like, but:

            "13” convertible gaming laptop with up to a Ryzen™ 9 6900HS processor & GeForce RTX™ 3050 Ti GPU"

Not the same exact model but you get the idea. You seem to spend a fair share of your time commenting on laptops, but I'll have to disagree on this one. Once again, know what you are talking about. Perhaps shoot an email to Asus ROG marketing and have them confirm that this is not targeted towards gamers then you win hands down.

What’s next haha, MacBook Air is the ultimate gaming machine?

            • @RobBoss: I think you are missing the point im trying to make here,

              1. yes the flow series is advertised as a gaming capable machine, but it doesnt mean thats all they are good for, the advertising doesnt only focus on their gaming side, neither

              2. following on, this amount of hardware inside such a small chasis have a lot of productivity use case to it, not just gaming. in fact, gaming on such a small screen with extreme bad response times is terrible all things considered.

              3. as these lineups have many different configs, with some not having a dgpu, it just further reinforces the idea that gaming is far from what they are good for. again the 12500h inside this 13' machine will obliterate anything similiar to it, even without a dgpu-neither does the competition and they came with worse cpu

              • @Brrrrt: Quad core for 1800, I’m sorry what is so great about a quad core? Literally u can get laptops with 8 cores and a discrete gpu, with 32gb of ram for less than that.

                • @Shill4nvidia: 12500H is not a quad core? 12c16t is far powerful than anything similiar to it

This is a tablet, not a laptop. As far as tablets in the same vein as the Surface go, this is a pretty good deal since it comes with both the stylus and keyboard, and as far as I'm aware is the only Surface form factor tablet that is currently available with an Intel 12th Gen processor.

A similarly specced (Core i5 11th Gen, 16GB RAM) Surface Pro 8, plus the stylus and keyboard will cost $2458.90 at JB Hi-Fi, and that actually only comes with a 256GB SSD - half the storage of the z13

So no, if you compare it to other similarly priced "gaming laptops" it's not good value, but it's also not a massive janky gaming laptop, it's a Surface-style tablet. And for a device with this form factor, with 512gb/16gb RAM, A 12th Gen Intel processor, and no additional accessories required to buy on top… Under 2 grand is a really excellent deal.

      • A work colleague bought a Z13. Unfortunately he said it gets very hot and throttles because it looks like the cooling can't keep the 12th Gen Intel CPU under control. He also said the battery life is very average and was only getting about 5 hrs for basic tasks at best.

        • No issues for me although I'm just doing basic home use .. reviews are pretty positive with cooling performance..

Maybe you need an ARM chipset if long battery life is your highest priority

        • Yeah, that's the drawback of having a more powerful processor unfortunately.

consider the food prices, 1899 is like 899 in 2021, such a bargain!

  • I'm still thinking of returning my $1700+ Dell i7-12th Gen 32GB 1TB 3K-IPS RTX3060 laptop
it just make this deal looks like a complete rip off!
non of the recent deals can beat it…..

    • Is that a tablet?
      Size?
      Weight?
      Touchscreen?

I have the version of this that has the 3050ti (not this deal) and I love it. There's enough power in the CPU and GPU to run just about everything I throw at it at highest settings in 1080p. Its so portable I bought a dock and find myself carrying it back and forth from the tv to the study to the garage.

Recently had an international trip and it was a hoot plugging in my Xbox controller and playing it on the foldout tray.

    Battery life is abysmal though.

Concur with the others to avoid a model without the DGPU - what's the point? If you want this form factor, surface is probably a better bet.

(Edit: actually reading responses above sounds like this has better specs than the equivalent surface at a similar price). I'd just check the battery life, because it is the biggest thing that lets my (3050ti model) down.
