Bring Your Own Reusable Cup for a $0.50 Discount on Coffee @ 7-Eleven

1011

From Tuesday 4 October the price of 7-11 coffee will increase with a regular cup to cost $2. There will also be price increases across Slurpee, with a large to cost $1.50, along with Iced Coffee, and Hot Chockee.

To reduce single use cups, coffee drinkers who bring their own reusable cup to 7-11 in store will get a 50c discount.

This is a bloody outrage it is!

I'm gonna take this all the way to the Prime Ministah.

    • Doubt you can afford "Prime" Ministah if you can't afford $1.50 coffee

      • Scomo, Minista for 7-11 is going cheap

    • straight to king charlie 3 sticks

  • +21

will increase with a regular cup to cost $2

So now $1, and it will be $1.50 if you purchase a keep cup.

    Price increases are not bargains.

    • +3

Glass half empty kinda lady, aren't you?

Feel free to pay $2 in 41 days time. Shrug.

      • +3

With all due respect to 7/11 coffees, I don't know who'll actually pay $2 for a small. They simply aren't worth that much and the fact they can discount 50c for bringing your own cup means they absolutely could have chosen a lower price.

Slurpees at $1.50 will now just make more money for Maccas who will gladly take the extra customers.

        • +1

OTOH maybe $1.50 is reasonable (and what they actually want) and if anyone forgets it'll teach them a lesson that they'll actually learn.

          • +1

@justtoreply: I am definitely for the single cup surcharge and I'm fully aware the cup and lid is actually quite a chunk of the revenue. They could've definitely done $1.50 small (keeping the $1 for keep cup users) though, even as a loss leader. After all, the vast majority of 7/11s are petrol stations and the primary mode of transportation to get this is a petrol vehicle..

            • @pennypincher98:

I thought this was what it was going to be, which sounded like a great balance as it encourages people to bring their own keepcup - no reason not to if you work near a 7 eleven etc.

I suppose that hasn't been a price increase so many years, so it seems pretty excessive. Dollar fifty still a lot cheaper and any other cafe that wants at least $4.50 these days (and no discount for bringing your own cup).

              • @G-rig: GYG do Barista coffee for $2. Granted, not every location does this but a fair few of them.

Without sounding like a pretentious snob, there is a mile of difference between a 7/11 coffee and a barista made coffee. It's like comparing a McLaren and a Suzuki. They both get you to your destination, but that's where the comparisons stop.

Meanwhile Ampol, Coles Express etc still do $1 coffee.

                • @pennypincher98: yeah no doubt and i make my own good coffee in the morning at home, usually only get a long black after that.
I know barista coffee is better but a lot are pretty average as well. Depends if it's worth an extra $3.50 or whatnot a day. They got free nespresso pods at work, and still prefer a full cup of 7-eleven stuff (or similar).

$1-1.50 alright either way.. any more than $2 or so then you may as well pay $4-5.

                  • @G-rig:

i make my own good coffee in the morning

As do I. I also have breakfast at home. Just don't always have time.

any more than $2 or so then you may as well pay $4-5.

I fail to see this logic. Paying $2.50 a day for a year versus $4.50 a day a year will save $730.

Barista made coffee is nearly always good if an actual barista makes it, you can usually tell if they are before you order. If you're not happy, they'll remake it for you. Obviously not everywhere does this, but people tend to gravitate towards those who treat you like a person and not just money.

                    • @pennypincher98: Yeah and you get to know the shops that are friendly, use fresh good beans, make it well etc.

I'm just saying for $1 you can't really complain. Ofc spending $2 is better than $4.50, it's just up to the individual what they want to spend their money on.

                      • @G-rig:

I'm just saying for $1 you can't really complain

For $1, you can't and hence why if I'm after a $1 coffee I'll go to Coles Express.

                        • @pennypincher98: yes, i think we are saying the same thing.
Is there one in the CBD though? HOw much extra time to walk or drive to a 50c less coffee when work is $/h.

        • A lot more people will now bring a reusable cup, fill it up with a $2 coffee, then claim the discount to pay $1.50 instead. As long as I remember my cup, I’ll be ahead compared to how things are right now. (I usually buy the large, currently $2 coffee)

A lot more less people will now buy 7-Eleven coffee bring a reusable cup, fill it up with a $2 coffee, then claim the discount to pay $1.50 instead.

            fixed that for you…

          • @melbourne guy: Filling it up with the $2 "large" size, ethics aside, you could do that for $1 today, now it will cost $1.50.

            Still more.

            • +1

@pennypincher98: I couldn’t be bothered bringing a reusable cup but now these changes will spur me to do so.

              • +1

@melbourne guy: Win for the environment at least.

Time will tell if this turns into a win for 7/11 but I suspect they might release app offers for $1 coffees soon enough if others don't follow suit.

        • tbf slushies vs frozen drinks are somewhat different with liquid volume

    Not a bagain

    • Not sure about a bargain, but this definitely is “Not a bagain”

  • +2

50% increase or 100% increase. That's the deal? Am I missing something?

  • +3

I knew someone would post this. Doubling the price then offering a 50c off sweetener is not a deal.

  • Is only the $1 slurpee going up in price, or are all the sizes going up 50¢?

    • +2

      New Slurpee Prices:
      Small - $1
      Large - $1.50
      Super - $2.50
      Mega - $4.50

  • +1

The Glenhuntly 7/11 has new machines where you can’t add a sneaky espresso to make your coffee a double shot which is a bummer.

    • +1

Just got to Coles Express where you can add an extra shot for free and the coffee tastes much better anyway…

  • Maybe they will bring in $1 coffee for the app users.
That said I think ampol and shell do better coffees

    • +1

Ampol increased their price months ago, I’ve got a draft thread I never got around to posting from back in May.

      • +1

Bugger. I was planning on buying their $1 mochas, after 7/11 increased their prices.

        • Check your local store just in case it’s not all stores. The one I visited increased to $1.50

      • Oh. Will have to check. Thx

      • publishit

  • Lol

  • Take two cups when getting your two dollar coffee.

  • Good FYI but not useful as a bargain

  • +1

is there a size limit for the cup we bring?

    • As long as your back can support them

    • Just press large. They will never know unless they recruit coffee police

  • It was my last resort

  • I don't mind milky coffee. My keep cup will have a small flat white with a free top up of 500ml of hot milk.

  • Price increase, then a slight price decrease to bring your own cup. Yea nah not a bargain

  • The discount is after they double the price of $1 coffee.

  • +5

Can I just point out how beautiful it is the current votes are +7/-11 on a 7/11 post.

  • I feel it will be discounted back to $1 if you use the 7-eleven app

    Wait and see!

    • how?

    • Spot on, there’s an additional $0.50 savings for coffees and $1 large Slurpees via the app
