    So where's the bargain?

  • Apparently it normally cost 1699. But also as an alternative to peleton it's not too bad.

    • normal price at local australian shops which famous for applying too high margin.
      check ebay

  • $148 delivery to Sydney 2000. Need an subscription to use the features as well.

  • Lol shipping to Perth metro is ~$230…

Standard bike can be had for under $600 including shipping at multiple places, what makes this worth spending the extra including stupid shipping prices?

  • I thought subscription was 0?

    • +1

The subscription is now paid. Their free tier has about half a dozen classes and if they're indicative of the quality of the rest then the platform isn't worth it.

I was almost about to buy this a few months back, finding it hard to justify the Peloton pricing. I bailed when I started testing their app.

      • On second look I was considering the S3 not the S3+

  • +2

the non plus was $399 on ebay special few months ago.

right now its $599 - just wait for ebay sale, plus cashback offer

or get the M1 model, very very similar for less than $500

  • 6.5kg flywheel is kinda garbage. But pretty decent price for magnetic resistance and belt drive. The touchscreen is great if it isn't locked to the Yesoul app.

  • Why is the flywheel garbage? Can you elaborate?

    • +1

Most spin bikes will have flywheels north of 15kg so this has a significantly different feel.

    • Far too light. You just bounce around constantly, and it feels nothing like an actual spin bike (or an actual bike).

If it was a cheapo model, sure - but $900 is proper money. You can pick up a Horizon gr7 for not much more or a Lifespan 410 for a lot less.

    • It's actually not terrible, because the resistance is generated magnetically and not by friction. Turning the resistance up to about a half turn below maximum and then going full hammer out of the saddle, I am easily able to reach over 400 watts (as measured by Favero Assioma pedals). That's comfortably Zone 7 for me.

    • pretty sure "spin bikes will have flywheels north of 15kg so this has a significantly different feel"

however, 6.5kg is not "kinda garbage" at all.

it is totally fine for most people!

people should keep in mind s3 and this s3+ are 'smart' spining bikes. you do pay a little bit premium for that 'smart' function.

personally, I have the s3 model. If i want to spend $900 + delivery, i probably would not consider s3+ but may consdier something like a horizon gr7. gr7 does look great imho.

its true the subscription is now not free, which is a bit dissapointing. However, the overall package still represents very good value for what it is. and many owners of s3 are subscribing other paid platforms.

  • How is this for tall people? I was looking at the S3 but at 6'4", reviews indicate I'd struggle.

Anything half decent and of similar quality?

    • No idea

    • +1

It's just the base S3 with added screen, so no chance. I am 5'11" and need a gel seat pad to raise the saddle to a correct height for me.

Keep an eye out for a second hand Schwinn IC Classic. It is rated for 6'8" and faily sturdy.. If you need the bluetooth features then look at the IC8 which should also fit you nicely…

I just bought a 2nd hand Schwinn IC Classic for $500, and the IC8 can be had for $1k. But this is in Qld so will need to look in Melb.

  • The problem with buying any bike with a built-in screen is that it locks you into the manufacturer's ecosystem. Same is true say for Nordic, even Technogym, but in the case of Yesoul it is probably a particularly bad idea.

Better to buy a bike with no screen but a tablet holder (such as the base Yesoul S3, Echelon EX-3 or Schwinn 800IC) and then run Peloton digital (or your choice of competing app) on an old tablet. I have ridden both the S3 and Schwinn; neither is perfect but both are solid options at the right price.

  • Gawd I bought & returned the non-plus model as the pedals clunked at the top, the handle bars wouldn't tighten properly & wobbled when standing for hills.
