I bought a "Samsung Galaxy Tab A7 Lite 8.7 (32GB)" second hand in new condition from ebay with case for $90, I only use it for mapping, charts, and navigation, it's ok, the screen isn't very bright really but it has great battery life…

  • +1

At Officeworks you can get the A53 for $0 if you get a 12mth $99 200GB Optus plan, just considering this.

    • +14

By my calcs, you would be paying $449 for the phone, plus $61.58 per month for 200gb data.

Obviously, people have very different data needs. But for me, this plan would be a total waste of money as I use less than 10gb per month on mobile.

      • Agreed. There's 4 of us including two teens on the Aldi family plan, $80 per month for 88GB shared and we never use it all. We have a ton of rollover data.

Oh I wonder if I retire my Mate 20 Pro for the A53

    • +1

I went a73 and I'm happy coming from mate 20 pro, charging speed is slow but battery is big enough for 2 days with medium high usage so it's not a bother

      • +1

Thanks mate ! what do you think of the cameras and display ?

  • Anyone got a deal for sub $300 phone? Looking for my friend.

    • +23

When you find your friend, let us know what phone he suggested!

    • I don't know any Gavins, I'm afraid.

    • +1
      • Thanks that's pretty good, Saw the A32's going for $250 on OzB recently too, might wait for that again.

          A32 is Mediatek vs A23 Qualcomm SM6225, of course A32 6GB vs A23 4GB

          • @superforever: What do you think is the better phone to get? Assuming similar price.

            • @SuBw00FeR: I prefer Snapdragon phone but 4GB of Ram may have impact on speed.

        • Be cautious about the MediaTek. I got the deal phone you mentioned and I am not happy with that. Planning to throw it on gumtree for 200 with cases and screen protector.

I found it a bit lag in terms of chrome browsing and navigating. But the last straw is the signal, I traveled to Mornington and my phone went to emergency right after I get out of CBD. My partner' iPhone 8 plus has signal all trip.

    • Why do people on this forum always say , looking for a friend ?
Can't you give them the heads up about this site !

  • Can you use Galaxy Tab to answer phone calls? Or is it very annoying?

    • Yes you can. But only really ok to do with a bluetooth headset.

      • And only works with samsung phone

  • Just smashed the screen on my Oppo X2 Neo.. that A53 seems like a good phone for the price.

Any thoughts or recommendations on other Android phones (Motorola, OPPO etc) at that price point versus the Samsung? I'm a bit out of the loop on current phones.

    • +2

Got the A73 5G for $535 from last deal, very happy with it.

    • What about X2 Pro? $450 grade A from phonebot.

Way better specs. Worse battery, but you can get a replacement from oppo installed for $60 IIRC

    Moto g82 or a53?

  • +1

Great phone but not sure why we get the single Sim versions here in Australia when New Zealand get the dual Sim versions.

    • +1

Yeah. I didn't even realise. I bought it, went overseas, got a local SIM, popped it open got a rude shock.

Came back home, gave that to my wife and bought a grey import one.

Great phone. Battery can last 2 days if all you do is text, browse, watch maybe a couple of hours of video and make the occasional call. I don't even charge it to 100%. I turn the battery saver option on (or whatever it's called) which charges it to 85%.

    A52s is a better phone.
    https://www.gsmarena.com/compare.php3?idPhone1=11268&idPhone…

Can still get it from Amazon for the same price, although it's Amazon US.

    • Is it the same as the Aussie version especially 5G?

    • Why is the A52s better?
Much the same specs, but the A53 has faster CPUs and (I expect) will have a year longer of software support.

      • +3

The SD778g in the A52s is faster than the Exynos 1280 in the A53, and apparently camera processing is better on the Snapdragon. People also prefer Qualcomm if you wanna use GCam.

And although the A53 has a bigger battery (5,000mAh vs 4,500mAh), again the superior Snapdragon SoC comes into play- more efficient so from reviews they actually have the same battery life.

A52s also retains the headphone jack and has Wifi 6 support which the newer A53 does not have. With about 6 months between releases I'd say the software support won't be that much of a difference.

        • +4

This. The Samsung A52-s is the last best phone. I regret not picking one up for $400 local, but my old cracked phone still has some life in it.

I would recommend LG devices but they're gone out of business. ASUS isn't bad, but they're somewhat lacking in the ROG/ZenFone in some aspects. OnePlus was competitive but they've lost their way. Google devices have always been overpriced and compromised. Samsung was great, then became good, and now they're just "meh" as they attempt to follow Apple's trajectory/business practices.

The other option is to import a Sony Xperia (1 or 5) phone from Europe. But you're getting ripped off AND there's no local support/warranty so it's very hard to justify.

          • +1

@Kangal: Other then Google, Samsung have the best Android support. With these new models, they have promised 3 years of upgrades and 4 years of security updates. This is the only reason I went back to Samsung. Hardware-wise, you get what you pay for from any manufacturer. Software support is a big deal for me.

Anyone want $20 off good guys message me I have a code I'm not going to use that I got through email when I got the a73 deal

    • I would love that, just sent you a PM. Thank you!

    • +3

Thanks for the code mate, that worked great. Brought it down to $429. Got cash rewards tracking of $18. And I will be flying out next week, so hoping to get the GST of $40 refunded (this is actually a father's day gift to the dad). So after punching in all the numbers, the cost should come down to around $371.. not bad!

Dad will see the RRP on the box, and I will get the favourite son of the year title! :D

  • If anyone else has a similar $20 good guys code, I'd love to scrounge it from you!!

  • +1

Considering the A73 was just over $500 not long ago, this is hardly enticing.

    • +1

Considering that's back up to $799 which is almost double this, when do you think that kind of price might come back around again?

  • Pulled the trigger on the A7 Lite for reading manga/comics. Cheers.

  • +1

A53 will get 4 years of OS updates, not 3.

    https://www.sammobile.com/news/samsung-give-galaxy-a33-a53-a…

    • Ah thanks, I got it mixed up with Galaxy A52.

  • Does anyone know if this was a price error? I'm looking to buy one for my mum now and prices look nothing even remotely like in this deal. almost all have gone up to $700!

    • Does anyone know if this was a price error?

Not price error, just promo and ended.

      • right, thats sad (for me).. but thanks for letting me know..
