1650

T-Mobile Network Pass allows you to try T-Mobile's 5G data network for up to three months for free, while keeping your existing service with your current carrier. All you need is an unlocked, eligible eSIM-capable phone, and to download the T-Mobile app from the Apple App Store or Google Play store. Then you can experience unlimited high-speed data on the T-Mobile network, all with your own phone, phone number, and apps.

Doesn't need a credit card, no need for planning ahead (just download the app and away you go), no physical sim (you do need an eSIM phone).

Basically this just became the traveller's choice for phone data plan when visiting the US.

update: confirmed as unlimited talk, text, and data

    • Hey did you end up getting this to work ?

      • No, I tried at least 5-6 different VPNs, didn't work. I am travelling to USA in January, so I might try when I am there.

I hope the promotion will continue till then

        • Did this work for you?

          • +1

@flud: Traveling next week. I will then update how it goes.

            • @Iwantthatbargain: Thanks mate, safe travels!

              • +1

@flud: I am in LA and I tried using Felix data as well as local WiFi, but always getting errors message “looks like you are outside the U.S.”
So probably they have a way to find out through MAC Address or something. So not working anymore.

  • Tried this and keeps saying I need to be connected to a carrier network. I’m still in Aus and tried several VPN.

Does anyone know if they need to have a US mobile service already to get this?

    • No, previously many were able to succeed with AU carrier. Looks like T-mobile is now rejecting all VPN sign-ups

So I definitely couldn’t do it. I had to get a US mobile service for T-Mobile to let me sign up. So what I did was used the 10 day free trial from US Mobile. You can choose e-Sim so you can start the activation process in Australia, do it the day you fly or before because activation will fail. When you land in the US, you will be able to activate the service. Once you have the US mobile service, you can go through the process for T-Mobile.

Remember to cancel US Mobile by day 7 or they will charge you. I did it once T-Mobile was working.

        • Assume you have an iPhone?

          • @djkelly69: Yep iphone, are Android phones able to get this data pass activated while in Australia?

            • @yoquierotaco: I don't think Androids can get it at all - I am in the US atm and can't get it to work on either of our two Androids.

              • @djkelly69: So what is not working? The US mobile part or the Tmobile part?

For Us mobile, my e-sim was not recognized as being compatible so the customer rep had to do something (not sure).

For the T-Mobile part, I needed to have data from a US mobile service. I tired it with a Telstra sim that had service but it did not work.

  • Has anyone got this working with Android?
If so can you please tell me the steps you did to get it working?

    • can confirm even with VPN this is not easy.
i understand you have to change your country in the settings , problem is you can only do it once then 12 month wait to switch back. i guess you could set up another play store with a separate email and get it all working then go back to your normal profile if you didn't want to risk the 12 month thing.
I'm in the USA leaving tmrw, will try upon arrival, but thinking it's a dead end and will look at an Esim online airalo or a local option

For android, should be able to start with

    https://fi.google.com/about/free-trial

Then signup to T-Mobile using a downloaded APK

Worked for me while in the US.

    • Did you get the Google Fi trial in the USA too or in Australia?

      • +1

US. Wouldn't work for me in Australia, only available on android. Apple you have to switch store countries and not recommended

    • Cannot get the Verizon or the T Mobile trial offers to work on my Samsung S21+ and my partner's Flip4, both unlocked Australian stock.

Also tried with a new Google account with a USA address. Was able to download the Verizon and apps restricted to the USA directly from Google Play.

Your Phone Isn't Eligible. Device Not Found.

No problem with the Red Bull Mobile or Google Fi esim deals.

I think they might be limiting the trial to devices with USA IMEI.

      • Had the same problem earlier this year, couldn't get any of the trials to work due to my phone being the 'international' version.

  • Currently in Chicago using the airport wifi but the T-Mobile app says I'm outside the us

    • Are you roaming with an Australian sim? I couldn't get it working either but it was due to them not supporting my "international version" S23 Ultra…

      • No, I was using airport wifi only.

Am using "international version" S21 Ultra bought in aus

  • Almost impossible to get one now, refused to work on my iPhone with a Telstra sim with or without sim line turned on.

Tried on Pixel 7 Pro, turned off all lines, went through several screens but showed an error message at last step of eSim activation.

  • hi does anyone know if we need a 5g esim capable phone for this?

I have a google pixel 3a, 4g obviously wondering should it work if i go to usa

  • Any tethering available with this?

  • +1

Just want to post that this worked for me for the last 3 months, over 3 US visits. I have a Samsung Galaxy S21+ that was originally bought from T-Mobile, so that may have helped.
I had to download the T-Mobile apk (from apkpure) as it wasn't in the Play Store for my Australian Google account.
I couldn't set it up until I landed in the US (nothing that I tried from Aus worked).
I received a US number that worked for calls and texts (but I didn't use it much - I use Google Voice and have a dedicated number for that).
I kept my physical Spintel Aus SIM in the phone.
I think I was able to tether, but I don't recall, as I didn't have much need for that.
I was not able to use the T-Mobile perk of free in-flight wifi (I tried on several flights).
Bottom line, if you can get it to work for you, it's awesome!

Be aware that TMobile has improved heaps in recent years, and there are a few frequencies on their network (600mhz 5G and mmWave that are a big part of that improvement) that aren’t supported on Australia iPhones.

Won’t be terrible, but not optimal.

  • I think 5G in the USA is on different bands to Australia, so compatibility would be limited to phones/handsets which can receive the frequencies used by TMobile.

For mm-wave 5G, TMobile uses n260 and n261; their other 5G bands are n41 and n71. None of these are used for 5G in Australia, so if you have an Australian handset, you would need to check the specs before you could be confident this offer will be of use to you.

  • Anyone tried this recently and be able to register in australia through VPN?

  • I'm in the US currently but getting a message that my phone isn't eligible. I have s23 ultra.

  • Can anyone confirm if this deal has worked for them in the past few weeks/months on an iPhone?

  • Nope. Just landed in the USA. Couldn't find Tmobile app on Apple App Store.

    • Got a week free on Google and then two weeks on Verizon. Both online esim registrations. Had to remove the physical Aus sim to make it work.

  • anyone else’s iPhone not showing the offer?only shows on my Samsung

  • Only works while in the US?

  • +1

This only works whilst you’re in the US. It tracks your location to confirm so VPN alone is insufficient. Perhaps a geolocation faking app would work.

I couldn’t get this to work whilst I was in the US. Downloaded the app on the US App Store, but couldn’t find any buttons to sign up for the free trial.

I ended up using the Verizon deal instead. That also roams in Mexico and Canada which was quite helpful.

At least on Android Surfshark has the option to spoof the GPS location to whatever server location you are connected to. No idea if that would work for this.

  • Noice!

  • +1

be warned. requires US model mobile.

I was in the USA in November and tried the Verizon and T-Mobile trials. neither would register with my Australian S23 Ultra.

    • +1

I had no luck with t-mobile but my Australian model iPhone 15 model worked fine with Verizon. I have no doubt there are some limitations to this that people haven’t figured out yet, but I don’t think the limitation is “US Model phones” only.

      • Yep, Verizon worked with my (Australian) pixel 7 pro. T-mobile worked with Australian pixel 5 and iPhone 11. So that's definitely not the restriction.

  • -1

It didn't work with my Australian S23 ultra, the shops had no idea about it and I visited a few shops in California.

  • Does changing your iTunes account location affect any of your exisiting apps?

Can it be changed back after you get the Tmobile app?

  • This seems crazy for free? Could I hotspot this data?

  • +1

I was able to install the app on my S21 when I was in the US but I could not find the option for the free trial network pass.

  • April 2024 - this is a royal pain in the butt to try and set up; Have got the App and then spent an hour solid trying to set it up, including using VPNs etc and have abandoned ship. Anyone got it successfully set up while still in Australia? Is it even possible to do without a US phone number (which kind of defeats the purpose)? Think I'll stick with Airalo and wifi.
