+4 votesDepends why you're buying the monitor. If you value size and vertical resolution (24" and 1200 vertical pixels on the Dell vs 23" and 1080 on the ASUS) then $100 isn't that much… although it's actually 71% which is a pretty big increase.
Asus' response time doesn't seem very good either, so theoretically the Dell would be better for games and movies.
The Dell doesn't have HDMI, but you can get DVI to HDMI converters pretty cheaply these days.
All that said, I've never regretted spending a bit more and getting the better one of anything. I bought the Dell a few months ago. No regrets. It's awesome.

+2 votesWell the benefits of better viewing angles are pretty obvious, e.g. if you have more than one person viewing the monitor (happens every day at uni for group assignments, even at home). Granted that for users such as myself it is only a convenience not a requirement but it is a convenience that many are happy to pay for. The main selling point of IPS monitors is the more accurate color reproduction and it hardly needs to be explained why having the right colours on your screen is good.
The point is; IPS monitors are justifiably considered to be better (with exceptions of course), whether or not you actually have use for it, so the price premium is justified.

IPS 14ms may not be comparable with TN but it is still slower than Dell's 8ms.
Being a owner of a Dell ultrasharp, I know it does not have the ghosting effect on racing games.
I am a bit weary that 14ms is enough to have ghosting as it is nearly twice as slow as Dell's screen.
IPS 14ms may not be comparable with TN but it is still slower than Dell's 8ms.
Agreed; however as previously noted, Dell's 8ms U2312HM is $100 more & has no HDMI. For non-hardcore gamers, that hundred can go a long way (SSD, HDD, RAM…etc, etc).
The salient point though, is that you cannot take a single number or spec & ascribe either good or bad results to it without proper context. If you look into it a bit, you'll find that panel response time isn't necessarily your enemy in games, you might wanna attribute the good results from the Dell to low input lag instead!
DarkRyoushii on 18/06/2012 - 14:01 ¶I actually didn't realize that, as others have asked, I'd be interested to know what 14ms is comparable too in the TN/TFT world? 5ms or higher?
Thanks :D
+1 voteonly a 250cd/m2 means you can't see well when it gets bright.
It has a typical cheap stand. no height adjustment.
It is not LED backlid. Not only the power consumption is higher but also the tube will work for 5 years only, shorter than LED lid ones.
No USB ports. This screen is what you paid for I guess.

brightness it not really an issue. the screen is LED backlit, if you bothered to check it out properly. Yes it doesn't have USB hub or a card reader, and the stand is pretty crap, but it does have VESA mounts to put on a better stand if required.
try find another IPS display for the price…
got one today (overnight shipping to adelaide!) and its comparable to my dell 2407 which i paid many times more for…

Excellent! Been looking for a reasonably priced 22-24" + HDMI.
Cheers.
