May be you can still get "Bonus Echo Dot (3rd Gen) with Fire TV Stick 4K Max Bundle."

    • +2

Doesn't work on this bundle. Just tried to apply the coupon and said it was invalid. Only works with stand alone FireTV Stick.

  • +1

    doesnt work for me :(

  • -7

What about the rest of us who don't use amazon's fire tv sticks?

  • +1

I was disappointed by this one. I got it along with an Echo Studio, and they just didn't connect seamlessly. If I connected the Echo Studio to my phone, I had to restart my firestick to get it to successfully connect to the Studio. Maybe it's an issue with the Studio and not the firestick, but man, the Amazon Echo ecosystem seems like a mess.

    • It's not as seamless to set up as Google devices, but you need to use the Alexa app, you may need to follow a guide as it isn't as simple as Google Home.

Once it's connected it's rather good.

    • No idea about that use case, but as a replacement for A Roku, ChromeCast, TelstraTV, Nvidia Shield, it's a dam fast and reliable box for the price.
Just plug into your HDMI port and go, I don't have any other Amazon products. Unsure why you would pair with an Echo Studio anyway.
Comes with a freat remote with dedicated buttons, controls your TV, HomeTheatre\sound bar ect.. all over a single remote, using HDMI CEC and for devices that don't support that IR.

      • I replaced my Roku with one of these a while back. Its pretty good but the user interface is a bit annoying sometimes. I plug it into a usb on the tv which means it reboots when the tv turns on. Before doing this (ie it was plugged into a USB charger) it would lose wifi and I would often have to restart it. Often when it starts up it loses the home screen and comes up with these tiny icons instead. Also if I turn on the tv and dont touch the remote it complains that nobody has used the remote yet…

Not a huge deal but kind of annoying :)

        • Current product ships with a power supply stating you must use the included power supply.
If you want to power by USB, there is a NEW product (USB cable) with an in-built capacitator that is designed to handle the peak demands of the device.

So if you already own one we will give it to you cheaper. Brilliant.

    Come on amazon ya tightarses

    Bring back this deal

  • i think this was $76 for 2 on the last prime day right?

  • +1

I had this for a while, but it seemed to be essentially a gimped Chromecast, and there was no easy way to avoid being rickrolled in hotels via the YouTube app (yes, that actually happened to me).

    • +1

I just sold my android boxes, they were living hell with iptv/stremio etc. There is a huge advantage in having most of the Google stuff removed. With hotels, hdmi cable still wins

    • Opposite experience, now take a 4k max on holidays. Works on any HMDI enabled TV. Install TiviMate so I can watch FTA easily.
These are super fast, so great to use on slower TVs like some of the budget Hisense models. Press the netflix button and netflix logo appears almost instantly (assuming you have already used it previously)
App store is restricted, but can easily go into dev mode. It's more for people that just want a device that works, and don't need to customise.
Dedicated netflix, prime, and Disney buttons. Single remote for TV, home theatre\soundbar ect.. not limited to HDMI CEC but IR also.

No idea about the rickrolled, I always hot spot to my phone.

  • Can I use this to cast videos from apps or browser from my mobile?

Looking for a Chromecast alternative since Google updated the firmware on the chromecast last which restricted my DNS settings and I can no longer use Smart DNS to bypass Google's DNS.

    • +1

It has casting, but not full Chromecast like you get with Google devices. It works well enough.

      • Hey mate, With Google chromecast can you cast from any app that's streaming on your phone to TV even if you have VPN turned on your phone ?

        • You're asking two different things. 1 - no, not with Chromecast alone. I have 'Replica' on iOS and it can cast the screen, regardless of source, to a Chromecast device, including sound. I wouldn't want to rely on it for high FPS, but it is fine to watch TV shows in odd apps without Chromecast support.
2 - no. But if you can see the Chromecast in Google Home you can cast to it. Unless you set up some tunneling or similar, Chromecast is only on your local IP. You could try Tailscale, but you'd want to be comfortable that you can get it working before you buy the device. This is the sort of progress people are making in that area with nVidia shield and Android TV https://forum.tailscale.com/t/how-to-get-a-chromecast-with-g… https://www.reddit.com/r/AndroidTV/comments/p2ln1h/using_tai…

Good timing, my old OG Fire Stick died over the weekend so picked one of these up, will be a nice upgrade, thanks OP.

  • Great way to get 4k Plex, Disney, Prime, Netflix and FTA TV via TiviMate or the on-demand apps on a Hotel TV (HDMI) or even your PC monitor. (Windows experience is still pretty poor for many streaming services, and you get a remote)
Single remote with dedicated buttons, works a treat.
Sure the Nvidia shield is more powerful, but for $49

  • +1

    No KAYO..

    • You could sideload it, if it's an app you require

    • Enable dev mode (5 clicks on about), then use the 'downloader app" to download the "kayo apk for android TV".
May be an additional step to allow 3rd party installs, but once you enable it you can use downloader to pretty much download any android TV apk.
But yeah the device isn't perfect but again for the price, it's pretty good.

  • Any way of getting UK streaming apps like All4 & My5 on these?

    • Enable dev mode (5 clicks on about), then use the 'downloader app" to download the "required apk for android TV".
May be an additional step to allow 3rd party installs, but once you enable it you can use downloader to pretty much download any android TV apk.
      Plenty of guides on google.

  • Is this a worthwhile upgrade over the Lite version?

    • I'm also mulling over if it's worth upgrading. My Fire Stick Lite works just fine, and I'm happy with it, so not sure it's worth getting the Max.

  • If you don’t qualify someone can have my 40% off code TLT7-F8SC8P-RJ7CCE. Expires 12 October or echo show 8 $60 off 9UWW-4XLP68-A5GVCD
