  • very tempted, can i also get Starthere cashback?

  • +7

awesome price but finance minister said NO :(

    • lol, tempted but really have no need :(

    • +1

You are not also the minister of war for nothing!

    • Just won the battle with the minister of finance.
      First it was NO.
Then we discussed our power bill.
A trade was done - Macbook pro for me, use of clothes drier for the missus. All parties happy.

      • +1

I can see a trade deficit coming in the future and the only winner is the power supplier. Unless you have a Solar Panel system…

  • Thought they would have sold out by now. How many do they have on sale?

  • -1

eh apple drip feeding the market as always. just wait a few years until technology is perfected

  • How long will it stay at $999?

    • +1

I would assume until 'Sold Out!'…. They wont be able to sell the old stock for the same price as the new models. :)

    • I heard that those who missed out will get…
      the new model instead. WOOHOO.

      I wish, only joking, sorry.

      • +1

I keep thinking that given that it is still online.

Unfortunately DSE are one of the mob that choose to cancel orders when they feel like it even after taking payment - skirting the law indeed.

Is there really any difference anyway? Just seems to be a processor bump.

        • Really? They are one of those?
Oh well, if they do that to me they lose a customer forever.

I think the new ones have USB 3.0 as well.

    • +1

I called them today. They said it was out of stock, not sure when will available. BUT they said this price will till the end of this month

  • +2

Found a retailer in Adelaide that will price match, I will post details up after I pick mine up tomorrow morning!

    • what is the point to match the same price?

      • To actually get one? DSE said they've run out of stock in their warehouse. That or someone might want to deal face to face in a brick and mortar store instead of an online outlet?

  • +1

To each his own. But I would rather buy the run out and better spec Toshiba Z830 Ultrabook for $930 at JB.

    • -2

Oh, it runs the apple OS too then?

Of course you'll get a wintel at a better price. d'uh.

    • Not sure if this is really comparable to an ultrabook. More ports + upgradeable HDD / can swap the DVD for another HDD or SSD, better performance, but ofc much heavier

Maybe the Dell XPS 14z? It's $799 right now, bout the same specs as the Macbook + discrete graphics. Aluminum body, not as nicely made as the Mac.

    To put it into context..

new 13 inch MBP (gains Ivy bridge, USB 3.0 and better vid card) - $1349
If bought during a 10% off sale (you would have to wait till a sale) - $1214.10
Less 5% if using Wish gift cards bought with the 5% discount - $1153.40

The one everyone here hates: If lucky enough to own or have access to a Woolies staff discount card - $1095.73

So still about $150 more for the new model whether you have staff card or not, but requires a wait and a little effort. Probably worth waiting for some.

  • Is this the one with 1280*800 resolution?

    • Yes, all 13" MBP have that res. (New and old)

  • Anyone managed to get a price match at a physical store? I'd rather go and pick it up from somewhere tomorrow rather than waiting for stock to come in.

  • too good to pass this one up. ordered me one.

  • Page doesn't exist on their website anymore.

  • Gone!

  • Funny the front banner on their website says it is $999…and then you click on it and page has gone.

Do a search and you find this:

    http://dicksmith.com.au/product/XA1100/apple-macbook-pro-13-…

    $1189.

  • Deal is finished.

Now those of us who ordered late wait to see if we get our orders honoured.

    • As bigosmallo says below, back in stock. woohoo.

Apple might be releasing new 13" Retina Display Macbook Pro in October 2012. Source: http://www.appleinsider.com/articles/12/06/14/apple_expected…

    • So the updated Pro 13 will be on sale for 3 months? Seems a bit silly

I guess they could carry both at the same time, but 2 13" airs, 2 13" Macbook Pro models, and 2 13" Retina Macbook Pro models would be a bit much. That, and the integrated graphics would burst into flames

      • The standard 15 inch is still available as well. And if they are going to put a retina on the 13inch, they will probably put in a dedicated graphics card as well.

  • The 13" MBP seems a little odd to me. I think the main reason to go 13" is because you want portability - in which case the 13" macbook air is the best thing ever.
OTH, if you want some pro features - say higher res, more RAM/CPU then the 15" has a lot more to offer.
My 2c, and maybe some consolation for those that have got this far down the thread and realised they have missed out on the deal.

    • 13" MBP is easier to upgrade, longer battery life, more connectivity and has a faster CPU. I agree at the same price the MBA is more tempting.

BACK IN STOCK! Grab it while you can.

Looks like a great deal. My sons both have MacBook Pros. Looking at specifications on their boxes, I've noticed that they are different. MBP 13.3/2.4/2x2gb/250/sd/glsy AND MBP 13.3/2.8/2x2gb/750/sd/glsy. I don't know much about computers. Does anyone know which one the special is? My daughter is interested in buying a MacBook Pro too. Thanks guys! :)

    • +3

Neither of those match the DSE special exactly, the first is closest (2.4Ghz), however DSE have a larger 500G hard drive in it. Te DSe specs page is http://dicksmith.com.au/product/XA1100WEB/apple-macbook-pro-…

BTW the 4G of RAM included would be fine for most people, running just Mac apps, if you need a VM to run windows as well, then you would want more RAM. This is very easy ugrade to do at a later time for not much money. You can get apple to do it, or pay less and by some 3rd party memory cheaply and install it yourself. DSE even sell the right screw driver for the job.

Thank you andy911…greatly appreciated the info and link. :)

  • it is out of stock again. but you can order it by phone. the stuff said the new stock will come at the end of next week.

    • Link still works for me.

    • Mine is showing as on Backorder. Not sure If I'll wait or cancel the order.

  • Do they have a non 1300 contact number?

    • +1

You can try (02) 9642 9587. That's their Customer Liason, listed on their contact us page.
They MIGHT put you through to the correct area. But it's really just a feedback line.
      Or Head Office (02) 9642 9100

  • Bought one as well as soon as it was available again. Order is currently "in progress". Called them to get ETAs on delivery. They said that they expect stock to be available on the 19th and orders to be processed a day after.

Hopefully its here next week. See how it goes

    • I ordered when it went back up too, currently it says my order is in back order. Hopefully they do get stock on the 19th and not the end of next week like another user said.

    • Same here, order is "in progress". Rang them and was told they will receive stock next Monday.

  • I ordered mine yesterday when it was first posted and just checked the status now and its on backorder :( how long do i have to wait till it arrives… Hate the waiting game

    • I ordered one today. They said the new stocks will arrive at next Tue.

  • Dick Smith closing down

  • Safe to assume that this was the previous model to the latest release? Ie. Oct 2011 release? Cant find the model number anywhere

    • This is MD313X/A

  • Out of stock again? I need to price match!

  • +1

While this one is out of stock, there are some 15 inch old models now discounted to $1579 and $1924 compared to the new versions at $1999 and $2499.
    http://dicksmith.com.au/dsau/search/dsau_search_results.jsp?…

    • +1

$1924 - limited to first 40 orders only
$1579 - limited to first 90 orders only

  • My order has been changed to "in progress" so I'm expecting it to be posted tomorrow.

    • Me too!!! ayayyaya

  • +1

    Mine too!!!

    • Mine as well!! They have some in store for "Click & Collect" too if anyone still interested.

      • Damnit! A store near me has stock. So tempted to go and buy it but the website won't let me cancel my order.

        Damn my impatience.

        • +1

I would do the same if my status is not "Dispatched" :p

        • I wonder if I could just get both, then return the posted one to the store when it arrives for a refund.

  • any one got a rough idea how long DS shipping takes?

    • Usually a couple of weeks from past experience :/

      • Is that from when status changes to "Dispatched"? :-O

        • yes

        • Usually about 3-5 business days till its dispatched, then another week and a half to receive it.

Hopefully that 1-3 business days is correct this time around.

    • they said it gonna take 2- 3 business days

      • Will find out I guess.

    • +1

      "on board with driver"

      HELLL YAY!

      • pretty happy around a day between processing to receiving.

        • Me too!!!

  • +1

Looks like that click and collect is incorrect. I placed an order and got a call from that store telling me it's a web only deal and it would be cancelled.

Just a heads up to anyone thinking of doing it.

    • And now I get an email saying that I can go and pick-up my click and collect reservation. Weird.

Oh well, my online order's already been dispatched so I'll just wait for that.

      • And now, just to confuse people even more, they called me up and told me there was a computer glitch and I can now go in and pick it up…

        Sigh.

In other news, my order is also onboard with the driver! Woo!

  • i want my macbook :) If anyone receives theirs can they let me know so I know its close :)

    • received mine yesterday. I ordered last Thursday. loving the machine.

    • Received mine yesterday too.

Stock came in Monday night, the order was sent Tuesday afternoon as an overnight AAE package.

  • Got mine on Tuesday as well awesome stuff

  • Back in stock for those who missed out.

    • thanks, I couldnt find any stores willing to match this price last week, ordered it this time.
My order is "in progress", does that means they have stock?

      • What happened with my order was that it started out as in progress, then it went to backordered. Once they had stock in it changed back to in progress and finally was sent out later that day.

        • ok, thanks mate, yea my order is now changed to "backordered".
will have to wait until they have stock then..

  • i ordered last night and it showed "in stock", now its on backorder. does anyone know when will the stock come in next??

    • they received stock this morning
mine has just got updated to dispatched :)
      expect it to arrive Monday

  • Does anyone when will they back order i really keen on to buy one

  • Out of stock again. But I am going to buy a new Macbook air so never mind. They have 10% off on 2011 iMac though.

  • For the record, this was my greatest scoop! Cheers OzBargain ;)

  • Placed an order on 14th Jul. the order is still "In Progress" since then without any progress also charged my Card then. Now this is off from the active deal. Do I stand any chance of getting one?
