100

Anbernic 353V/VS console up for pre order (6/10/22 delivery). Save US$8 off retail prices. Not much of a deal but it's something.

These will play everything up to PS1flawlessly with most N64 games at full speed without tinkering. Can also play some more demanding consoles but milage may vary.

353V dual boots Linux and android 11 while the VS only boots Linux. Specs are slightly different between the two.

Specs
RK3566 cpu
3.5" screen (353V is touch screen)
1GB ram (353V has 2gb)
Dual SD card slot, one for OS other for games. (353V had 32gb emmc5.1 for android OS)
WiFi
3300mah battery (lasting approx 6 hours)
HDMI out

When purchasing only buy the 16gb models . Provided SD cards are garbage and should be replaced asap so factor that in.

Edit:here is the review of the 353p which is the same hardware just in horizontal form factor.

Here is another review of the 353P that is more technical and goes into alot more detail. Highly recommend you watch this one.

    Price in title please

These will play everything up to PS1/N64 flawlessly.

    It won't play N64 flawlessly.

    I'll stick with my RG351V.

    • +1

Yes not worth upgrading if you own a 351V.

      • How do these go with DS games?

    • So the RG351V is better/plays ps1/N64 fine compared to this?

      • No device is going to run N64 flawlessly. Especially a cheap handheld. Some games will run ok-ish.

        • Ahh I get ya. My bad. Makes sense though, if you own the 351 there’s no point upgrading, but if you don’t you may as well get the 353, basically.

Thanks though, appreciate it. I figured as such.

      • No, this is more powerful than the 351V. According to reviews N64 performance on the 353P (same hardware as 353V) is extremely good, with "little to no hiccups"(see review link at bottom of post).

I personally don't trust RetroDodo reviews. He doesn't seem very technical to me.

Notice there's no FPS benchmarks in his review. All just vague descriptions. Also, he doesn't test the known games that push systems harder.

I'd wait for RetroGameCorp or ETA Prime to review.

@PainToad: Good point. Post updated with game corps review of 353p and N64 clarification.

  • How would this form factor compare to something like the 353P?

    This just looks really cramped.

    • I guess it depends. Some people like the vertical orientation and find it comfortable, others don't. The vertical orientation has that nostalgia factor that's the P does not.

  • My RG351v was dead on arrival. The screen wouldn't turn on.

Not sure on the QC on these. I assume support buying direct from Anbernic is better? If they are based in China I would imagine that you would get a bit of a run around.

    • QC varies but then again sending a little device with no additional padding through the international postal system can be hazardous for its health :-(.

  • Stupid question. Do I need to go to find and download games rom I want to play ( which is pain in the ass ) or this is pre-loaded games ?

    • Legally you should own all the games you want to play on this.

      • Where do you buy rom legally? Genuine question

        • You don’t buy ROMs, you download them for free. You should own the original game in cartridge or other form

          • @UberIsCool: I see, let say if I do use to have the game last time on my GBA, would I be able to download them?

            • @froddoog: It’s only going to be a moral or legal thing to yourself. Even then it could be a Grey area.

    • Some sellers will preload the SD card with various roms, so if you're lucky the games you want to play may already be there.
Note this practice may or may not be legal.

      • +1

        Sure, if you like:
        1) Shitty SD cards that will fail and wipe your saves.
        2) Poorly dumped roms that may cause gameplay issues.
        3) Poorly organised roms; duplicates and non-english.
        4) Shitty default firmware.

Did you not see the comments deleted above "Inappropriate - Piracy"?

If figuring out where to source roms is too hard, this device is two technical for you.

      • Find the rom site is NOT hard, it relatively simple but require effort and friction and morality. I have a Raspberry pi with full of roms to play but I guess what is in there is not legally. What i after is this device has all legal roms already and I don't need to do all hassle like with other simulators.

        • +1

          all legal roms already

Then this isn't the device for you.

          • @PainToad: Thanks mate. Its a pass for me then. I can just live on with my other simulators.

        • +1

"device has all legal roms already" - this kind of device doesn't exist :P

          • @kajidzz: Maybe those 200-1 devices you buy where no one has heard of a single clone title

  • How does this compare with the previous Miyoo Mini V2 ?

    • +1

Different use cases. Miyoo mini is super compact but not as powerful.

  • +1

still love my 351V and no need to upgrade

    • Yeah, considering I'm mostly playing gameboy titles on my 351V I'm doing mental gymnastics trying to justify purchasing this also. It has a second stick, but what am I using it for?

      • +1

If you have big hands you'll also be doing gymnastics to even play it. Look at those thumbsticks lol.

        • You're not really going to be using those thumbsticks with the consoles this machine can play. It'll be fine.

    • Unless you really wanted HDMI out or to use a Bluetooth controller there really is no need to go from 351V to 353V.

  • +1

If the RG353V runs Android 11 on it, does anyone know if that means it can run apps like Spotify, VLC etc?

    • +1

Yes, it can run, but no play store only via apk

      • Very interesting! Thanks for the reply

      • Plenty of places to download apk files.

        • Sure, but only a few you'd actually want to if you value your privacy.

          • @PainToad: If you use the google play store. You know the answer to that.

  • "let you fondle admiringly"

    • Giggity
