  • Be a bit weird if you were locked in on a trial… wouldnt really be a trial then would it?

    • +1

Yeah, I just posted this as it sounded like a good option to port to as there’s been a bit of a drought on free nbn deals

  • +10

it's no lock in does not mean you can benefit from this deal. They require a 30 day notice in their T&Cs. Otherwise you will be charged for another 30 days.

    • Is it enforced like exetel?

      • +1

        Yes, I was with them.

    • What if we use a one-time card like Zip? They can’t charge the second time.

      • +3

They'd probably sell you to a debt collector or it may have an impact on your credit rating.

You'd need to read the terms and conditions carefully. At the end of the day, it's just not worth it to save ~$30.

Not happy with these guys. I signed up for the previous deal then they called me to jack up the price saying my address is not eligible for the discount.
Asked to cancel then a few days later they billed me anyway.

Hi DRfuzzy, thanks so much for your feedback and we apologize for the inconvenience caused.

As per our previous reply in another post [https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/726629], Occom honoured this offer for all customers who have successfully signed up and completed the first payment by 11:59PM AEST, 24 Sep 2022.

For your specific case, we've tried to reach you by getting your customer ID but it seems we haven't received further replies. Could you PM me with your customer ID, and we will look into the case. Thanks!

    Hey OP,
You should put this one : From the 16th day, Occom will charge the first-month monthly fee.
Sound like an ads to me

    • I wrote that? ‘$1 for 15-day use. First monthly fee will be charged on the 16th day after your service activated’

      • We pay extra bucks if we decide to continue lol. Is it saying they gonna deduct 1 dollar if we want to continue ?

  • +1

Dont trust this company. Shouldn't expect they have any after sales service.

    • -1

You say they have no after sales based on what? I've been with them for years and their cs is consistently on par with the better ones like abb when there are reasons to contact them for.

  • +1

Looks like they have about 3900 fake google reviews

  • +1

My experience with them is better than Mate, connection quality similar to superloop, tangerine, no problems.

  • +1

They advertise no lock in and have a 30 day notice period. There are at least 30 days of lock in.

  • +3

Misleading deal. There IS a lock in of 30 days and this will incur a large monthly fee.

If you wish to cancel the service within the 15-day period, no cancellation fee will apply but the minimum 30-day usage condition still applies

    • No, you just fail at comprehension. If you read the line after it:

Any cancellation requests received after the 15-day period will be processed in accordance with the existing cancellation process (30-day notice).

Meaning, if you cancel within the 15 day period, the 30-day notice does not apply.

      • I disagree.
It states 30 days minimum if cancel within 15 day period.

        • Do you really think the ACCC would let them get away with $1 for 15 days with no lock in, then force people to pay the $1 and an extra 30 days? They would get fined. No one is that stupid.

      • It's still 30 days locked in with "no lock in" advertised

        https://occom.com.au/15-day-nbn-use-terms-and-conditions/

If you wish to cancel the service within the 15-day period, no cancellation fee will apply but the minimum 30-day usage condition still applies.

        • That's the same line that BBF failed to understand. Are you intentionally quoting out of context, or are you incapable of reading more than one sentence?

Any cancellation requests received after the 15-day period will be processed in accordance with the existing cancellation process (30-day notice).

Same page you linked. The 30-day notice only applies if you cancel after the 15 days. No lock in means no lock in. Unlimited means unlimited. If you try to do anything underhanded, or confusing, the ACCC will fine you.

          1. Other fees, including the following (a) to (c) will be charged in the 15-day period:
            a. Any modem charge. If you choose to buy a modem (rather than BYO, or ‘bring your own), the modem won’t be refundable, other than your rights regarding the Australian Consumer Law (for instance, it’s faulty). The modems provided by Occom are unlocked and able to work with other NBN service providers.
            b. Any NBN New Development Charge or NBN New Copper Pair Charge. NBN charges this fee before the service is activated.
            c. Any additional charges outside the base monthly plan fee, such as static IP, onsite support, incorrect call out charge, etc.
            d. These fees will not be refunded if the customer requests to cancel either within or after the 15-day period.
          • @[Deactivated]: I confirmed with their support - they said it's a minimum 30 day term.

            1. If you wish to cancel the service within the 15-day period, no cancellation fee will apply but the minimum 30-day usage condition still applies. Any cancellation requests received after the 15-day period will be processed in accordance with the existing cancellation process (30-day notice). • @ihfree: Did you make it clear you were talking about the $1 for 15 days deal? My experience of support is that all they do is cut and paste. Their comprehension level tends to be quite low.

There is no way this would pass the ACCC and there is no way they'd chase up a single month's fee through a TIO dispute.

I won't be testing myself though, since I am currently using other freebies.

              • @[Deactivated]: It's right there in their terms and conditions for the $1 for 15 days. I don't see how else it can be interpreted.

I personally won't be testing it as well. I object to no-lock in with notice periods or minimum terms. My original comment should mention the minimum term rather than notice period but the point still stands

                • +1

@ihfree: Well, we can agree to disagree. If anyone wants to be a guinea pig, let us know.

      • Meaning the 30-day condition applies for both within the 15-day period and after the 15-day period..
I don't understand how you are failing to comprehend it, it is quite clear.

They don't need to chase the fee, they can simply charge it then if not paid sell it to a debt collector.

        • No lock in means no lock in. You people are hilarious. The ACCC does not tolerate ambiguous or deceptive advertising.

  • +1

Not a fan of their customer service/sales.
Very pushy and they washed over my question and gave me a vague "you dont qualify for this deal" then offered me this deal mentioned. I declined instantly. I received multiple emails about needing my acknowledgement to proceed, I again declined, just to receive another repetitive email.

  • Even before this deal that now has an expiry date, Occom had a 15 day risk free trial, a satisfaction guarantee, that had very similar terms. Charged $1, and if you cancel within 15 days, you won't be charged more.

I never got around to trying them out because there were too many other free offers, but I had them on my list if I had nothing else.

  • Do they do credit checks?

  • Looking to churn came across this not a good deal.
