  • I joined recently ebay+, this code PLSEPBTXYNK48M7M not valid? Looks like that's the wrong code. Please double-check and try again.
However code HGSNS gives $20 off

  • The code is one-time use. But you will find your unique one on your profile summary page, if you are a plus member.

Not sure how many pros are using this, but it is a decent grinder for this money, I had it and whilst I upgraded and the upgrade was better, it was much more expensive and took up a lot more space.

    • What did you upgrade to? I'm in my third unit in 2 years! This is great when it works, but something is mechanically problematic with them. All mine (despite being maintained) get to a point where they have issues grinding beans, and no longer turn the grinder.

I've totally striped them down for home repair, but once they start jamming, it's usually the start of constant clearing/cleaning of the grinder prior to every coffee.

      • +3

        That's strange, a good grinder should last many years, mine is 3-4 years old now and has had zero maintenance, it's a Mazzer;

        https://www.coffee-a-roma.com.au/store/p122/Mazzer_Mini_Elec…

It's used constantly, at least a kilo a week.

The smart grinder 'pro' was given to a friend who uses it once daily (for 3-4 years) and has no issues, but is louder, slower and less uniform than Mazzer and isn't worth anything, my Mazzer is almost worth what I paid for it for some lucky reason.

    • I had this back with my bes920 around 13 years ago. Works well. Its not a coffee grinder that will extract much of the flavour profile just being a conical. But you can get sweet and toffee notes

      • But you can get sweet and toffee notes

Does that depend on the grinder? Are there different notes for different grinders (types, brands, models)?

        • Apparently flat or conical burrs affect flavour. I've had so many different types and can't say I'm tasting a difference with burr shape, but the more sensitive pallets are apparently tasting a difference.

        • Grinder and beans.
Conical burr are better for darker style roasts . Flat burr generally are better for light to medium.
In saying that the flat burr would benefit from a high uniformity pattern burr upgrade

  • Can I use this to grind salt?

    • +3

It could, but why skimp? Your salt deserves better, something a bit more capable, like this.

    • it won’t last long if you grind salt …salt is very corrosive and also draws moisture …salt grinders are usually all stainless or ceramic mechanisms.

  • I got this in 2005, I grind 250gr every week since then and still perfect https://www.productreview.com.au/listings/delonghi-kgaa

    • +1

Had that too. It was good enough before I swapped out the pressurised to unpressurised basket for my entry level espresso machine.

      • Do you mean with non pressurised basket you needed a finer ground coffe?

        • +1

Yes. The Breville Smart Grinder Pro I bought later has finer grind settings for non pressurised baskets.

  • Camel is wrong, these have been below $200,. Not for a while now though. Got mine for $160 a few years back. Was stacking discounts though.

    • Camel actually states $149 as an all time low so not sure where op got his info from

    • +2

those days are gone ……you have supply chain issues now, increased freight chargers, and inflation is on the way up ….i got mine sub $200 pre covid but doubt to see that again. i think with all time low people need to consider how far back do you go …..

      • Agreed but all time low shouldnt be the term used

  • +2

I remember getting one for $175 about 5 years ago.

I saw JB selling them for $429 the other day.. like, Christ..

It’s fine, but it’s worth considering spending more to get a much better product.

    • Like how much more, any examples?

      • Baratza Sette Grinder is apparently good. Or any of the cheaper Eureka grinders

  • +1

    Worth spending more
To get a Sette. I’ve got one of these and it’s ok for medium - dark roasts but anything lighter you won’t get much out of

    • Like how much more, any examples? Would the Baratza Sette 30 AP be an upgrade?

      • +1

Big upgrade. The breville takes more than 15 seconds to grind a double shot, and it comes out clumpy. The Sette will do it in 4 seconds and it’s fluffy.

        • Agreed. After using the smart grinder pro for years, I upgraded to a sette 270. It's a massive difference.

Word of warning though, the varatza sette is much louder than the breville. I normally grind coffee before my kids wake so the first time I hit the go button at 5:30am I was shocked!

Other than that, has been solid.

          • @butter: When did you buy the Sette? I believe too many negative reviews regarding breaking down, seems too many plastic internals that can fail. Breville own/bought the Baratza.

  • +2

    I bought mine in June 2017 $199.
Still going strong. Grinding ~330g a week.
Nothing more than clean and vac out every month.
Maybe I got lucky maybe cause we buy the same beans all the time so there little dialing in. But for someone who isn't a coffee snob but likes nice coffee at home, this grinder has been excellent.

    • I should obviously clean mine a bit more regularly….

  • Any recommendations for better coffee grinders than this if flavour is what we're after?

    • -1

      Niche Zero

    • Baratza Sette 270 if Niche is too $.

    • Eureka Specialita

    • DF64 is worth a look too

  • Bought this with my BES920 Dual Boiler 8 years ago. Have replaced the DB but the grinder is still going strong- adjusted the bottom burrs once and had to replace the felt washer after I tore it during a strip down clean once. For the price it really is perfect for the home user who has 2-3 coffees a day max like me as long as you take the time to dial in the right grind setting with each new blend of fresh beans. (I don't store beans in the hopper and treat it as a single dose grinder using scales to check dose weight).

Those looking for a significant step up in single dose grinders might want to look at the highly regarded and brilliantly designed Niche. The recent drop in the UK £ means that it can be bought with an AUS plug, shipped to Australia for around A$1000 atm. I've recently done just up that.

    • Can you recommend some good scales?

    • I destroyed my felt washer too. Where'd you get a replacement?

    • Did you receive it yet or just ordered and waiting? so GBP499+GBP90 delivery?
Not sure if you get charge the GST when arrive @ customer as value exceed AUD1,000?

  • Mine failed after about 2 years. Weak point is a plastic cog in the gearbox
