G.Skill Ripjaws V 32GB (2x16GB) 3600MHz CL18 DDR4 Desktop RAM Memory Kit $149 + Shipping + Surcharge @ Shopping Express

350

Seen a few RAM deals here lately, unfortunately I missed the G Skill Trident 3200Mhz deal. Found this G Skill Ripjaws 3600Mhz DDR4 deal for not much more. Note this is C18 in lieu of C16 from the Trident Deal, however if your hardware supports it the 3600/C18 should be better overall than 3200/C16

Probably plus a surcharge too, from memory. I can't recall what the surcharge is, but I'm almost certain that SE has a surcharge on purchases depending on which option you choose

    • Surcharge is the “new black”

    • Yep when I bought had to pay $1.59 surcharge and $9.90 for shipping

  • Ddr4 is set to only come down right? Unless the demand for it somehow goes up? Is there risk with buying second hand?

..Although I think the most recent CPUs were released weren't they? I'm a little behind but I think I saw the 7000 series available.

    • +1

Cannot think any risk of buying second hand unless there is a new mining method which uses RAM for mining.

    • It'll come down for quite a while til DDR5 prices normalise, then it'll slowly go up as demand for it goes down as previous generations have done.

As someone who's sold my old RAM over time (DDR1, 2, 3 and even 4), never had anyone come back to me saying it didn't work or wasn't compatible etc. Pretty safe bet just get from a decent ebayer/gumtree'er!

If you're an eBay Plus member and have the Sept $25 off offer, then this comes down to $150.90 inc shipping: https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/295198554415

    • Nice tip!

    • Also there seems to be a $20 offer as well.. spend $300 get a $20 voucher. That was until end of Sep so have a look might have both :)

    • hi mate , how can check these work with my built , i got msg x570 and ryzen 7 , just bought from my friend and theres 16gb ram only, i wanna upgrade to these. ? should i do ?

      • Just check the exact specs for your motherboard on the manufacturers website. If it's MSI, then they do have RAM compatibility tables for each board in their support section.

If you don't mind speed and you're an eBay plus member you can get the 3200MHZ 32gb one for $146 Delivered on eBay https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/402293961507?

  • wonder if this works with a R 5 3600 and B550M plus motherboard?

    • im sure it would? However I have a b450m motherboard instead.

    • It will/should. Remember to enable XMP tho

  • 3600MT/s 18-22-22-42 @ 1.35V, according to G-Skill. (Assuming they have the SKU right).

No idea what die it is.

    • I just got 16GB of cheap Ripjaws DDR4 with the same timings (so I guess its a good chance its the same chips).

      It was Nanya A-die.

Couldn't do much with the CL timings, but could push the frequency up a bit and tighten some of the other timings.

  • Currently running R5 2600 + 16GB DDR4 + 1080ti on a B350m.

Not sure if I upgrade to 32GB now, or hold out for 1-2 years and upgrade to a new mobo + CPU + RAM combo? Don't really want to try 5800x3d on my current board.

I'm assuming 32GB DDR5 kits aren't too outrageously expensive as an alternative (<$300)?

Also, my motherboard only supports OC up to 2933, so not sure if the CL18 is a bad idea as I won't reach the full 3600 on offer here.

Imo i think its better to upgrade as a combo rather than just ram. U in fact do need a better mobo, upto u whenenver u want to buy them :)

And yes, 32GB DDR5 can be found less than $300.

      • +1

Yeah, thanks for the confirmation. This DDR4 kit is really well priced but I feel like it's only worth it if you have a reasonably high-end build already that is worth keeping for a few more years.

        • Not exactly, DDR4 is the norm for gaming no matter if its budget gaming or high-end. I like to think DDR5 is the more for high-end, as if u can afford DDR5 then the machine ur putting it into is most likely not budget.

I can't remember the last time i ever heard of DDR3 lol. So basically i honestly think if u want this then don't hold urself back. If things don't go as expected u can either return them if u can (assuming it hasn't been long since u got them) or just sell them on ebay or something if u used it for a longer time, unlike gpu's, ram is still valuable even if used.

I have a Ryzen 7 with 16GB Ram, and a 2060Super on B350M. I have thrown everything at this machine and 16GB just seems more than ample, I've toyed with upgrading to 32 but really don't see any point. for the games i play the 2060 Super has been great.

      • Yeaah I'm in the same situation - I've got a R 5 3600 + B550M + 5700XT topped off with 'only' 16 GB of 3200 ram and have no issues at all.

Although this would probably be 'better' - no doubt about THAT.

      • 16GB more so you end up with 32GB gets you dual rank, which gets you about 5-10% increase in speed in games even with everything else equal.

In the end I decided it was a worthwhile punt to spend $88 on doubling the RAM - and its worked out OK.

      • I have the same ryzen 7 with cny 16g ram. Should i upgrade to this to play with 3070 gpu Evga ?

    • The limitation of your board depends on it's VRM. When you upgrade the CPU you will be upgrading the memory controller too (it's in the CPU not on the MB).

I wouldn't recommend a 5800x3d only because it's terrible value, just wait for 7000 series to get a bit cheaper. However a used 5800x or similar would be a nice upgrade. If your VRM isn't that good you could stick with a 6 core CPU and aim for a used 5600

      • I've got a MSI mortar Arctic b350m. It feels pretty limited, and didn't handle the firmware to support ryzen 5000 well so I'm hesitant to spend money on that upgrade tbh.

I'm thinking I upgrade to 7000+ in a year or two and just upgrade it all at once :) the 2600 is honestly doing pretty well for my gaming usage

Got excited seeing a Ram for sale on OzB but sadly this is just Ram.

    • +1

Hmmm there are lots of rams. Are u talking about the animal or car? XD

Its like saying i read read as read.

      • Was specifically looking for a Ram, male sheep, but it's ok for now, it can wait till the weekend.

  • Surcharge?!

  • These aren't the best if you're going to adjust timing yourself

  • I have this set up from a year ago. I barely got higher than 12Gb usage. however at this price, why not have extra capacity? Also you won't feel the real life difference between this and 3600mhz ones.

    • I have 64 GB in my PC. Regularly going over 40gb used when Lightroom and Photoshop are both open with many layers etc (when stacking photos for astrophotography, it can have dozens of photos as layers). Given that each photo is only 60mb I’m not sure why the usage is so high though…. But there you go.

For a while I thought I had wasted money getting 64gb, but I felt vindicated the first time I saw it go above 50% :)

  • No deals on CL16 3600MHz?
