  • I'm interested but have never opened an online bank account before. Can anyone give insights or precautions on what I should look out for? Thanks :)

    • Pretty easy, just fill in the details and go to the post office to verify your identity. Have a look under the FAQs

      • If you verify it electronically do you still have to go in person for anything?

      • i assume they need to post out some docs to you before you can go to the post office. so can all of this be done before 28 june?

        • No, the online process generates a page you can print which has a barcode. You take it to the PO and they verify you then scan the barcode. The result is electronically sent to ING and completes the application. Presumably Auspost forwards the annotated page or an image of it to ING also.

    • Nothing special. Just that you fill in the forms online and they may ask you to get your identity verified at a PO. To deal with the bank, use the Internet or phone, no bricks and mortar branches. Honestly I don't remember the last time I walked into a bank.

Don't use WiFi connected Internet to do online banking.

      ING Direct is -GREAT- value…

If you're happy to let your payments (salary, eBay, etc.) go directly into your account, & take funds out via EFTPOS (at Coles, Foodland, Woolies, etc.), you'll do much better with ING Direct.

Get $0.50 paid -to- you for each $200 withdrawal via EFTPOS.

      We recommend it!

      • +2

Internet banking traffic is encrypted, and hopefully your WiFi traffic is encrypted as well. I think it's extremely unlikely that someone could get anything meaningful by capturing your wireless packets. Perhaps if you are really paranoid, change your WiFi password as often as you want.

  • Damn I openned one about a month ago for a lousy $30.
Might have to get the wife to open one especially for this

    • +1

Both me and my wife have already already got one too unfortunately…so this one's over to you mate!

  • Thanks OP, done.

  • hurry, this exclusive offer is only open to the first 1,500 new Savings Maximiser customers.
anything to tell us if we still part of 1500 ?

    • +1

they can't tell you. guess you just have to decide if 5 pages of setup is worth trying

  • Can I close this account once I get the $100 bonus. Is there a cancellation fee or any other hidden charges? If not, I am very tempted to do this. Can somebody please update me soon?

    • +1

      Of course not…

…this is a BANK, -not- a MOBILE CARRIER or an ISP. :-)

  • Magnate, where did you find out about this? Is there a link to the terms and conditions?

    • +2

Isn't the idea of this website to help you find deals that may not necessarily be widely advertised. Gee Whiz

  • Is this cash bonus considered interest from the bank, as in you will need to declare this on your tax return as your income?

    • It is considered as taxable income - It must be declared in your financial returns.

  • Is this for new ING customers or for new ING Savings Maximiser account holders only? I have an ING Orange Everyday account so am I still eligible?

Would appreciate a link to the terms and conditions?

  • +1

Just had a chat with the bank's online chat facility. The rep told me that this promo is only available to those who got the email about INFOCHOICE promo, so I am not eligible :(

Let me know if someone has got a work around ;)

    • +2

same here. It's not open to everyone

      • Ditto, was just about to post this fact.

  • Interestingly, current members recently received a Customer Satisfaction Survey… w/ chance to win an iPad or iPod for taking the 20 minute survey online.

    The Bank's being competitive, I guess…

  • Confirmed with Bank…It's not open to everyone. The offer applies to anyone who has has received an email about it.

    • damn! i just opened !
      but how they will know?

      • +1

They can't possibly know. The email is a generic subscriber email for infochoice. They have no way of tracking

        • I'd say when you put in your email address as you are filling out the form they will check if that is one of the email addresses that they sent the promo to. Shame though, I just signed up without the email

        • there are ways to track who they sent their email to…

        • Given they ask for so much information…
          http://www.vision6.com.au/em/forms/subscribe.php?db=189908&s…
          Fools!

  • it seems the days of free $100 cash to anyone opening a new account are limited, ING are obviously targeting a specific demographic…
ps at least you now know why they want your email address, to send you offers!

  • T&C added to the post. I can't see any way they are going to track it, it's clearly not a unique promotion code. Just tell them you got the email and run with it.

    • Yeah. I am interested in this and other options like forwarding the email(if available). Although I am not eligible, I wouldn't neg this deal as its great for anyone who is eligible.

    • i kind of agree (and hope) with him. you can signup with completely different email, name etc to infochoice, and then use real name to open account. still the same person. there is none mentioned in the email offer taht we must use the same name or email add, Magnate?

      • Email is below. No mention of using same details like I said. IMHO it's open slather

    • Thanks OP for this post. Is it possible for you to attach link to email if you have received email and email is available online. This will really help if just in case ING ask for email details.

  • So the OP received and invite. Could u help us in as u why u got it and no one else does? Do u have a debit card with them and use it regularly? Salary to ur card? Etc…

    • I must have signed up to infochoice at some stage. I got the email from infochoice not from ING Direct.

    Alright you doubters

Cilla: Hi, you are chatting with Cilla.
    Cilla: Hi Jimmy.
You: Hi Cilla. How are you. I have just opened an maximiser account, and insert the promo code of "INFOCHOICE"
You: I want to check if the code is valid and the next question is how I can transfer the money to that account.
Cilla: In relational to this promotion did you receive an email informing you about the account.
You: I found the poromo code online, it says $100 Cold Hard for New ING direct Savings Maximiser Accounts.
Cilla: Unfortunately you are not eligible for this promotion. This promotion was targeted to certain customers, and is only eligible to those who received the email.

    You: okay. thanks.

  • You: but if the promo is available for public view, how come it is not vaild for new customers.
Cilla: As mentioned it is a great account.

It shouldn't be available to the public and it looks like a few shopping website have posted the information without permission. We are currently attempting to have it removed.

    • Because of what you have said I've decided to neg this, if you sign up for this account and they find a way to see that you didn't get the email you will most likely not be eligible for a cash bonus when their is a genuine offer for the same account type.

      • And how are they going to do this? Where does it say you must use the same email you subscribed to infochoice to sign up? Where does it state that you are only elegible if you have received the email?
No my friends, ING Direct have screwed up here and now will have to cough up.

        • +1

Anyway, I agree with you. ING Direct have screwed up.

  • you are very very naughty, what is your punishment??

  • ING shouldn't give Magnate the $100

kiss it goodbye for making it public

    • +2

I can't get it mate, already got my money from ING a long time ago when the deals were still good. Just trying to share the love, sounds like plenty of people round here need some!

  • How long does it take to transfer money to other bank accounts?

I have everyday and online with ANZ atm, and I can transfer funds between accounts instantly.

When I transfer to my NAB account, takes 1 day before funds move/show up.

How about ING? Are they "associated" with any banks such that transfers are instant?

  • -2

    Not open to everyone

    • -1

Ridiculous to neg such a good offer. Just because it's not available to everyone doesn't mean the offer is not a good one. Plenty of people can still take up this offer.

      • -1

It's only available to people who received the email. Which means it's pointless to be posted here.

        • -1

Not at all pointless, it brings awareness. It prompts people to look at their email whereas otherwise they may have simply discarded it. Iirc we also had another ingdirect deal that invited people through emails only.

  • Commonwealth bank have similar offer on at the moment but you get $40 and have to wait until September! I'm not to fussed

  • I got this email but I'm already an ING customer (did get some money for open both the cash and savings account)
Maybe I can "lend" my email address to my friend

  • -4

I signed up for the offer, but was just told by the representative on the phone that the deal "is more of a targeted promotion, and not open to everyone". Negative from me because it was not made clear in the original post, and now I'm stuck with the account.

    • Do you trust all your finances on internet advice without reading the fine print and T&C? The op has provided you the link and knowledge to investigate further, he/she is not here to spoonfeed because you did not read about what you are signing up for. negging it for your reason is just ridiculous.

      • I don't usually rely on financial advice from internet people, but I trust ozbargain.

        • You are crazy if you trust internet advice for your finances. Period.

    • +1

Where in the email I received did it state that the offer is targeted and only available to those who received the email? The whole thing is posted above. Negative to you mate.

      • -4

AND A NEGATIVE TO YOU TOO, MEAN PERSON!

  • Does anyone know if there is an age limit to open an account? (thinking my two boys, as I already have one)

  • -4

    Not available to everyone.

  • I suspect they will just say that they have reached the 1500 limit and not pay anyone!

  • +2

To those saying 'i rang up and they said it was only for eligible customers' could they just be saying that to discourage the 'non disirables' from signing up?? just a thought.I did sign up just in case and even if it doesn't go through i'll still be getting 1.1% more then i'm currently getting well for 4 months at least anyway.

    • +1

      thats the spirit!

btw, ubank give 5.51 without "first xx months"

      • Cheers,i'll move it over when the ING rate goes below ubanks rate.

  • +1

Unfortunately, now if a real offer comes up, open to everyone, I won't qualify because I have signed up to this offer possibly for zero reward.

    • +2

Thanks for taking one for the team :)

  • -2

Not open to everyone. No deal at all.

  • Has anybody received the $100?

    • Just emailed ING and got quoted for payment after 2 weeks from initial deposited IF eligible.

    • nope.
      nothing. nada.

  • +1

Just to let you guys know, I checked my account today and saw that bonus 100$ is credited on 3rd July. I deposited 100$ on 26th June. Pretty Happy. :)
