  • Where does this connect to?

    • +2

Mains water hose connects directly to the bottle fixture on top.

It siphons the mixture as the water passes through the 'closure' at the correct dilution so you just have to point it where you want the mixture to be, on your lawn.

Not suitable for Buffalo. Just beware.

this needs to be in title THANK YOU

  • Are you comparing the same brand available at Bunnings or two different products?

I need a few of these, so thanks for reminding me and providing a deal.

    • I'm comparing $ per m2 of lawn.
      So $9.99 for 200m2 = $5 per 100m2

After using weed & feed on my lawn recently I was curious about how effective they actually are so did some googling. Long story short, they neither fertilise well nor treat weeds that well. They lack the phosphorus & potassium that lawns really want, and the herbicide is extremely diluted which is why they can be so cheap. Obviously doesn't apply to all products, but IMO you should buy separate products specifically for the job. Jack of all trades, master of none etc.

    • That's usually the case with everything.
Especially wash and wax car shampoos.

    • +7

Hi, established lawns require very little phosphorus (P) and potassium (K). Nitrogen (N) is the main nutrient required by leaf based plants such as turf. A common blend is 24(N)-1(P)-12(K). Source -
      I'm a greenkeeper.

Everything else you've said is correct.

      • OK so if my lawn is more weed then.. weed and feed is not what I need?

        • +1

Likely not. If you have couch grass get some Kamba and bomb it every 10 days till eradicated. Then rake out all the dead matter and top dress lightly and fertilise.

The idea of healthy lawn is no weeds and low maintenance. If you let it get overgrown, you have to put the work in to return it to a good state. Like all maintenance really.

          • @maxwellish: How harmful is Kamba for kids for example?

            • +1

@user27: If they don't drink the concentrate they will be fine. I'd recommend you stay off the applied area for a few hours to let it dry.

              No issues.

      • What's the best way to get rid of clover?

  • Is this any good

    • Okay for small weed problems. If you have lots of weeds, something like Kamba M is more suited.

      • Kamba M, like this stuff, is no good for Buffalo. Know of something that is?

        • Don't know, I've never had Buffalo grass.

yates weed and seed at bunnings 4L is $19.87, so no this isn't really a good price, just normal

    • +3

      That's $19.87 to treat 260m2 of lawn = $7.64 per 100m2.
      Aldi's one is $9.99 to treat 200m2 of lawn = $5 per 100m2.

  • Better off spraying with something like Kamba

    • +3

Correct. Cannot be used on Buffalo though. For that use Bromoxynil & MCPA.

  • +5

I find the Bunnings Yates 4L one very effective.

However, You need to wait for a few days after it rains, and don't spray it if it's going to rain in a the coming few days. So 10 days without rain in a row.
That's the actual problem this year.
I've been waiting for 6 months now.

    • Thanks for the info. I have/had no idea how effective Aldi's and Bunnings' ones are, so I bought the Aldi's one based on price per m2.
I'll be able to comment in a few months' time 😄

    • Definitely about the post rain period. But why the pre rain? I thought soaked soil=better penetration?

      • Just my guess, perhaps the rain already stored in soil would dilute the chemical?

i.e. if there isn't much water in soil, the weed needs water to grow, it's more thirsty, hence absorb more volume of chemicals solution

        • +1

No. This does not dilute the chemical. All foliar herbicides are absorbed through the leaf and translocate through the plant.

Healthy weeds will uptake more herbicide as it's metabolic rate is increased.

    • +1

Incorrect. All herbicide will be absorbed through the leaf within 24 hours. Your window is far too broad.

  • Normal price. This treats 330 m2 area for $9.37

    • Good price if you just want the weed killer 👍

  • for you green thumbs out there, what's the best product to use to kill weeds in driveways/paths/side of house where i dont want anything to grow?

    • I’m with you on this. Weeds always coming up between the concrete in the driveway drives me nuts!

      • If you've got no plants nearby nor in the direction of the runoff, time to salt the earth.

    • Simazine works best on our paths, I only need to do them twice a year. Bunnings only sell it in liquid concentrate these days, but it’s cheap.

Happy to find some other residual options though,

    • +3
      • Yes that’s the one.

      • Under specifications it states it is both not selective and selective… Schrodinger's weedkiller :o

    • +1

If non selective weed control is required, use glypho 360 concentrate. Cheap and very effective.

      • The Simazine works much better long term though, twice a year does our paths while glyphosate 360 is ok for knockdown.

  • Coles as brunnings for $9 atm on special
