For anyone thinking about picking one of these up, keep in mind it's more of a gps and less of a training computer. Great for if you want navigation and phone notifications, not so good if you want strava integration or workouts

    • What's it missing compared to edge 530? I thought it was just workouts…?

My edge 530 is hanging on by the skin of its teeth, I'm desperately waiting for the 540 or something else better.

        No ANT+ / Di2 shifter support

      • No strava live segment, no customised training plans (so it can't tell you when to go for a ride or when to have a day off, etc.) I believe it's also missing the MTB metrics tracking. No open Ant+ and Di2 support for those that have electronic shifters.

It's very much a "casual rider" computer, designed for people who want to share their rides but aren't interested in performance gains or training. If you're looking for a high quality turn-by-turn GPS, something that will track your rides so you can share them on Strava afterwards, or just a general-use computer so you don't have to strap your smartphone to your handlebars, this is a good option. But anyone who wants what Garmin Edge computers are best known for, their training programs and dynamics, you're better off with either the Edge 830 or 1040

      • My LBS reckons 540 is a long way off. Apparently with the amount of watches Garmin have put out recently they are holding off on releasing other stuff.

  • looks like all the garmin range is on discount. if i had the coin if look at the Edge 1030
