  • Thanks OP!

    • Flammable hazard - cannot be forwarded by mail?

      • +1

I don't think brake fluid is flammable (could be wrong though)

      • -1

        AFAIK no fluids by mail.

        • +1

          ???? NO Fluids??

          Think again

          Also brake fluid flammable?

If that was the case every car, would explode when brake are applied, the heat from brake pads is rather intense….

          ROFL

      • +2

according to the MSDS, it's not classified as hazardous/dangerous

        http://www.penriteoil.com.au/msds/Brake%20Fluid%20Ver%202.2%…

"This product is not flammable under conditions of use. Is a combustible liquid that will burn if preheated."

  • Cheers!

  • +33

    Awesome! Now I just need a car…

    • +4

but now you'll be all set when you get one!

    • +4

      Everyone loves freebie paper weights.

      • ahhh may be not this greasy one..

  • Sweet! Got mine on the way and in time for my brake flush! haha Cheers!

  • +13

Superb post. I held a bottle in Repco last Friday, and my instinct told me not to buy it. Now I know why!

    • +4

Ozbargain has gotten into your blood. Can I get a donation please…

    • +2

An angel from OZB was on your shoulder whispering…

    • +1

the OZb force is strong in this one…

  • +2

i've used their super sin fluid, turned brownish in just a few months, and i've been easy on my brake as well.
the changing interval is 12months for the penrite, instead of 24months for most other brands

    • +7

thatll be about right. penrite is superior. I use all penrite gear oils, engine oils, brake fluid on my track cars. I would NOT use anything else purely because its that reliable and value for money.

everyone please keep in mind this is Supr Dot 4 meaning it more than likely will not be compatible with your car if you have rubber brake lines. mixing this with your DOT 3 will destroy your brake lines and will be a costly exercise. ye have been warned. only use this with brass/braided/solid brake lines as teflon does not go well with the rubber lines.

source: been using this for 7 years in race cars and ex mechanic.

      • Appreciate the update as to what to use, but, the bottle in the op's photo says applicable for use where Dot 4, Dot 4 Super and Dot 3 are specified..????
        So what's the deal exactly??

      • So simply put this brake fluid is not compatible with every car?

      • Thanks heaps for the warning, mate. I will give mine to someone who can use it.

      • +6

no disrespect, as you have more experience than me, but I'm pretty sure that Dot 3, 4, and Super 4 are all compatible with rubber brake lines. They are all mutually compatible, but that being said, you dont want to mix them if you can help it. Better off getting a full flush done before swapping.

IIRC Super Dot 4 is actually Dot 5.1, which is not related to 5.0 at all. Dot 5.0 is the one that you definitely cannot mix with any others, and is silicone based. Maybe you are thinking of 5.0?

        Penrite claim so at least:
        http://www.penriteoil.com.au/tech_pdfs/87_DOT%203%20and%20DO…

        • -1

Yep dont mix them, if you use DOT 3, stick to it.
If you flush out your system, you can start using DOT 4 in almost any vehicle with no problems. If you make this change, you should probably keep flushing the lines every 1-2 years, where DOT3 will usually last longer.

      • +3

sorry dude but where ever you got your info from is bogus. you can DEFINITELY mix dot 3 and 4. altho you will lose the temp rating of the higher DOT's by doing so which for 99% of people isnt an issue.

source: been using it in my road cars and my track cars since the 90's, in cars as old as 1973, mixing dot 3 and 4 with no issue.

edit: also check "machalel" link to the pdf above. penrite saying essentially the same thing :)

        • Lol go for it. Wtf would I know? Your the mechanic that has been using this type of hydraulic fluid for years in race cars. Go for it. Everyone should listen to you and penrites marketing and not someone that uses this everyday and lives by it. :)

        • actually im not "the mechanic".. im the "ex mechanic" somewhat retired for the last few of years. its a good thing to do before you hit 40, and i still gotta couple of years till then… and yes my 3 track cars are fine with mixes. and all my road cars are fine on a mix of it also, couple of which ive owned for 20 years.

but hey, im sure you know way more than i do, and way more than penrite does, your an "internet mechanic" after all and im sure you know more than anyone else. no harm done to your rep bro. keep killin it yo!!

kids these days, ill never quite understand them.

        • -1

cool story bro, lead astray the ozbargain population.

whats the ingredient in DOT4 that makes the boiling point so high under heat? what makes it stable? that very same agent is what kills rubber. of course you should know that.

what benefit do I get arguing the facts and helping the community? what benefit do you get for being wrong and leading people astray?

maybe you were a dodgy mechanic for 40 years or whatever? the type that gave us enthusiasts that poor image? Kmart tyre and auto maybe. you may do dodgy flushes at your joint but thats not gonna cut it and dont tell people to do it on here.
          cheers

        • Ok people enough.

You have both made your points - so people can research and decide for themselves. No more flaming please

  • Thanks. That was a good way to start the day.

  • Thanks OP

  • Awesome! I was just thinking that it was time for my partner to give me a oily massage……This will work great.

    • +2

Craist! Don't put this on your skin. Brake fluid is nasty stuff.

And it's not an oil AFAIK. It's an alcohol.

      • +7

I think he was joking, my special friend.

        • His reference to brake fluid being "oily" was just ignorant enough to make me worried about the possibility of his using it for massage :P

    • +5

so thats how kiwis court each other

      • +1

I was sure that it involved a sheep and a probe.

        • We treat the sheep you eat ;)

  • Thanks op!

  • Thanks OP.

I hope everyone is aware about what super DOT4 will do to your OEM rubber brake lines. and that DOT4 cant not be mixed with DOT3.

please do your research before taking up this offer

    • +1

      see comment above

  • +4

Also for those that have not bought from GSL rallysport or brakes direct, they have the cheapest brake pads in australia. contact him about HPX streets or his remsa range. He will sell you better and cheaper pads than autobarn and super cheaper auto stock.

    • +1

      thanks for the tip!

  • how can they afford to send out a bottle of brake fluid to everyone?

  • Thanks OP, great deal! Hopefully this freebie gets delivered…

  • +1

Nothing better than the sweet smell of free brake oil

  • Wonderful deal!

  • Nice! Just subscribed for a free bottle. Thanks!

  • +2

    2 STICKERS?!?!?!,

  • Awesome - cheers OP!

  • Thanks!

  • Great oil. Took me 30 secs to register. Thanks alot.

  • Can anyone tell me if this is suitable for a Hyundai Getz 2003?
Great timing if it is! I need to get some new oil I was told by mechanic, but if it's compatible, I'll grab the freebie and then buy some new pads through these guys and then i'm sorted!
    Thanks OP!!

    • -1

A bit too good for your Getz as this is a high performance oil. Lifespan of 12months rather than 24.

Recommend you upgrade to braided fuel lines to use it as it will corrode your rubber ones.

      • +1

        Thanks for the info! BlackV8SS
But before I upgrade to braided fuel lines in the Getz, I think i'll upgrade the car to the "smart fortwo mhd"

  • +2

a mate is addicted to this… but says it allows him to stop anytime

    • +2

you should tell your mate its harmful when ingested. Overconsumption may have a laxative effect. but glad to hear it has a stopping agent

      • +2

how can it have a laxitive effect if it stops you going? :P

        • It will stop you running but wont stop the run :-(

  • +7

from their webs: "This is a genuine offer from a genuine local company, please don't take the mickey out of us… "

I read this as "please don't ozbargain us"… lol

    • +8

Nope… That was aimed specifically at people register from a spam inbox account, like mailinator… We're giving away nearly $20 value (including postage), so it would be nice if you read or at least looked at one of our monthly specials/giveaways…

I've got no problem what so ever with OzBargain, it's opened up 5000 potential customers. Virtually everyone drives a car, so everyone is a potential customer who can benefit from what we do.

Need to note though we have bought Penrite Australia out of the fluid, so there may be a delay!!! Probably the first 400 will be sweet, but after that I'll send out a bulk email with updates!

      • +1

i like your attitude to doing business, Greg B-)

        • Thanks mate, appreciate it! ;)

        • thanks for the clarification. you're a champ !

      • Excellent attitude mate! Just registered and subscribed too. Markis above seems to think I shouldn't mix and it's not fit for rubber hose. Perfect excuse for an upgrade to braided lines. Can't wait till your site's up! Will ping u an email then.. I've got 3 cars and a bike to do. Wanna send me 2 bottles? :) (j/k).

  • Thanks Op!!

  • +1

Please note: Orders with a spam inbox email address will not be accepted. This is a genuine offer from a genuine local company, please don't take the mickey out of us…

  • I'll give it a shot. Thanks OP.

  • +1

Yah, I love the smell of fresh brake oil in the morning. Thanks op.

  • +3

Good deal no doubht…but who actually here NEEDS super DOT4 in their cars? You guys take your car to the track much? I thought it was just a higher boiling point that was an advantage…

If its the same Greg from GSL Rally then he's a good bloke to deal with - as mentioned before QFM HPX/A1RM pads @ very good prices, better then your Bendix/EBC crap.

EDIT: nevermind I got confused - I was thinking of DOT5 that's not compatible with most cars.

DOT3/4 is interchangable so no system flush required :p

    • +3

Interchangable… maybe, but CAN NOT be mixed together. (Just to make that perfectly clear to everyone.)

An entire flush is required to switch between DOT 3 and 4.

      • -1

"BlackV8SS" actually your wrong, you can mix dot4+ with dot3,and it will still be better, safer, and with this deal cheaper than using shitty dot3. maybe you need to look before you speak?

edit: dot5 is the only one you cant mix with dot3,dot4 or fot4+ as has already been established in previous posts, including from penrite themselves….

    • it is Greg. Good bloke.

    • free bottle of dot 4 which is compatible with dot3+ is a good deal in any ones language… only an idiot would not like this deal :)

  • Nice find - think these guys may get a few more takers on the FOC offer than first anticipated. Thanks OP.

  • +1

dam, hope we done break the site

  • Great deal-Thanks Bungs-Mine is on the way-I hope!

I found this web page about the subject of Dot 3 and 4 brake fluid useful, as it contradicts some of the misinformation above.

another good read. this will make you the expert!
    http://www.mossmotors.com/SiteGraphics/Pages/Brake_Fluid/bra…

  • +4

Beautiful. Hopefully this is a healthy oil because I just bought myself a brand new Deep-Fryer

  • Is this compatible with toyota yaris?

Give this site a week, and it will be ozbarganers!

  • +31

    Hi,

Greg from Brakes Direct here! Have to say I've never seen so much misinformation in my life!

The product we're giving away is suitable for all vehicles that specify Dot 3, Dot 4 or Super Dot 4 brake fluid! This is VIRTUALLY every car on the road, but consult your owners manual or reservoir cap for details. And it will definitely NOT destroy rubber lines, that's utter crap from probably an employee of a rival brand…

The only vehicles this won't suit is vehicles that require Dot 5 (not Dot 5.1) fluid! But this is quite rare…

Any questions at all please don't hesitate to call our national hotline on 1300 724 943 or your local office direct:

    North QLD Ph: (07) 4422 0303

    South East QLD Ph: (07) 3177 0806

    NSW Ph: (02) 9191 9387

    VIC Ph: (03) 9938 8221

    SA Ph: (08) 7070 1402

    NT Ph: (08) 7999 7400

    ACT Ph: (02) 6171 2025

    TAS Ph: (03) 6111 0500

    WA Ph: (08) 6500 0151

    New Zealand Ph: 64-9-951-5726

And of course if you need brakes, be it pads, lines, fluid, rotors, sensors and accessories, you know where to find us! ;)

    Regards,
    Greg

Great to see you found the source of your traffic.

      • Yep, here an FreeSamplesAustralia!

    • +1

Thanks very much Greg. When your new site is up I'll be grabbing some pads too - they must be about due by now. Good promo.

      • +1

No problem at all. You can already order though us direct, the vast majority of our orders are done manually via either email or phone. The webstore will be good, but if you'd like to discuss options and pricing best to call us. We do about 17 different brands of pads and 7 or 8 brands of rotors as well as all the rest of the bits and pieces that go with, so often best to chat with us first anyway!

    • +1

      Thanks Greg - impressed!
You are a real sport - cheers.

      • +3

No problem! Just as in one of my comments above, there may be a delay as we've actually bought out all of Penrite Australia's stock!!!

  • +1

    Thanks Greg for the clarification.

  • +1

    Cool promo thanks

  • +1

What's with the name change? I mean GSL is quite reputable within the performance oriented circle.

Oh yeah please run some sort of sale soon…RDA/DBA/some sort of pads STAT! Every single time you've had one of those sale on, I only managed to find out about them after the event - put them up here is my recommendation.

    • +1

      Hi mate,

It's definitely not a name change. Brakes Direct is a brand/trading name we launched to compliment GSL RallySport, because there was this false stigma that all we did was competition parts, which really is only 5-10% of what we do. The company is still GSL RallySport, but certain stores and all or our trade servicing ones will operate as Brakes Direct.

So whilst Brakes Direct will just be brakes, GSL RallySport will continue to do brakes, suspension, race gear and apparel and lubricants.

  • awesome deal, thanks OP/brakes direct!

Do you guys sell bleeding kits? like MityVac and the like? I've been looking for a decent place with decent prices on things like that, like MityVac's basic sell in USA for ~$30 but over here everyone wants to charge $100+…

  • +1

I have ordered pads in the past from GSL RallySport via the JustCommodores forum, top service and good prices.

    • Thanks for the feedback, appreciate it! ;)
