+2 votesthe player on 22/06/2012 - 05:41 ¶i've used their super sin fluid, turned brownish in just a few months, and i've been easy on my brake as well.
the changing interval is 12months for the penrite, instead of 24months for most other brands
+7 votesthatll be about right. penrite is superior. I use all penrite gear oils, engine oils, brake fluid on my track cars. I would NOT use anything else purely because its that reliable and value for money.
everyone please keep in mind this is Supr Dot 4 meaning it more than likely will not be compatible with your car if you have rubber brake lines. mixing this with your DOT 3 will destroy your brake lines and will be a costly exercise. ye have been warned. only use this with brass/braided/solid brake lines as teflon does not go well with the rubber lines.
source: been using this for 7 years in race cars and ex mechanic.
+4 votesgreydaniel on 22/06/2012 - 12:15 ¶EDIT: Dont want to get in an arguement, but DOT 4 is fine for most applications.
+6 votesno disrespect, as you have more experience than me, but I'm pretty sure that Dot 3, 4, and Super 4 are all compatible with rubber brake lines. They are all mutually compatible, but that being said, you dont want to mix them if you can help it. Better off getting a full flush done before swapping.
IIRC Super Dot 4 is actually Dot 5.1, which is not related to 5.0 at all. Dot 5.0 is the one that you definitely cannot mix with any others, and is silicone based. Maybe you are thinking of 5.0?
Penrite claim so at least:

-1 votegreydaniel on 22/06/2012 - 12:23 ¶Yep dont mix them, if you use DOT 3, stick to it.
If you flush out your system, you can start using DOT 4 in almost any vehicle with no problems. If you make this change, you should probably keep flushing the lines every 1-2 years, where DOT3 will usually last longer.

sorry dude but where ever you got your info from is bogus. you can DEFINITELY mix dot 3 and 4. altho you will lose the temp rating of the higher DOT's by doing so which for 99% of people isnt an issue.
source: been using it in my road cars and my track cars since the 90's, in cars as old as 1973, mixing dot 3 and 4 with no issue.
edit: also check "machalel" link to the pdf above. penrite saying essentially the same thing :)

actually im not "the mechanic".. im the "ex mechanic" somewhat retired for the last few of years. its a good thing to do before you hit 40, and i still gotta couple of years till then… and yes my 3 track cars are fine with mixes. and all my road cars are fine on a mix of it also, couple of which ive owned for 20 years.
but hey, im sure you know way more than i do, and way more than penrite does, your an "internet mechanic" after all and im sure you know more than anyone else. no harm done to your rep bro. keep killin it yo!!
kids these days, ill never quite understand them.
-1 votecool story bro, lead astray the ozbargain population.
whats the ingredient in DOT4 that makes the boiling point so high under heat? what makes it stable? that very same agent is what kills rubber. of course you should know that.
what benefit do I get arguing the facts and helping the community? what benefit do you get for being wrong and leading people astray?
maybe you were a dodgy mechanic for 40 years or whatever? the type that gave us enthusiasts that poor image? Kmart tyre and auto maybe. you may do dodgy flushes at your joint but thats not gonna cut it and dont tell people to do it on here.
cheers

+2 votesbargain lover on 22/06/2012 - 09:40 ¶a mate is addicted to this… but says it allows him to stop anytime
+8 votesBrakes Direct on 23/06/2012 - 13:58 ¶Nope… That was aimed specifically at people register from a spam inbox account, like mailinator… We're giving away nearly $20 value (including postage), so it would be nice if you read or at least looked at one of our monthly specials/giveaways…
I've got no problem what so ever with OzBargain, it's opened up 5000 potential customers. Virtually everyone drives a car, so everyone is a potential customer who can benefit from what we do.
Need to note though we have bought Penrite Australia out of the fluid, so there may be a delay!!! Probably the first 400 will be sweet, but after that I'll send out a bulk email with updates!

Excellent attitude mate! Just registered and subscribed too. Markis above seems to think I shouldn't mix and it's not fit for rubber hose. Perfect excuse for an upgrade to braided lines. Can't wait till your site's up! Will ping u an email then.. I've got 3 cars and a bike to do. Wanna send me 2 bottles? :) (j/k).
+3 votesGood deal no doubht…but who actually here NEEDS super DOT4 in their cars? You guys take your car to the track much? I thought it was just a higher boiling point that was an advantage…
If its the same Greg from GSL Rally then he's a good bloke to deal with - as mentioned before QFM HPX/A1RM pads @ very good prices, better then your Bendix/EBC crap.
EDIT: nevermind I got confused - I was thinking of DOT5 that's not compatible with most cars.
DOT3/4 is interchangable so no system flush required :p
-1 vote"BlackV8SS" actually your wrong, you can mix dot4+ with dot3,and it will still be better, safer, and with this deal cheaper than using shitty dot3. maybe you need to look before you speak?
edit: dot5 is the only one you cant mix with dot3,dot4 or fot4+ as has already been established in previous posts, including from penrite themselves….

I Think more like a day…As for product suitability use this link -> http://www.datateck.com.au/Lube/PenriteAus/
+31 votesBrakes Direct on 22/06/2012 - 17:00 ¶Hi,
Greg from Brakes Direct here! Have to say I've never seen so much misinformation in my life!
The product we're giving away is suitable for all vehicles that specify Dot 3, Dot 4 or Super Dot 4 brake fluid! This is VIRTUALLY every car on the road, but consult your owners manual or reservoir cap for details. And it will definitely NOT destroy rubber lines, that's utter crap from probably an employee of a rival brand…
The only vehicles this won't suit is vehicles that require Dot 5 (not Dot 5.1) fluid! But this is quite rare…
Any questions at all please don't hesitate to call our national hotline on 1300 724 943 or your local office direct:

+1 voteBrakes Direct on 23/06/2012 - 14:07 ¶No problem at all. You can already order though us direct, the vast majority of our orders are done manually via either email or phone. The webstore will be good, but if you'd like to discuss options and pricing best to call us. We do about 17 different brands of pads and 7 or 8 brands of rotors as well as all the rest of the bits and pieces that go with, so often best to chat with us first anyway!
+1 voteKing Tightarse on 23/06/2012 - 12:33 ¶Thanks Greg - impressed!
You are a real sport - cheers.
+3 votesBrakes Direct on 23/06/2012 - 14:08 ¶No problem! Just as in one of my comments above, there may be a delay as we've actually bought out all of Penrite Australia's stock!!!
+1 voteWhat's with the name change? I mean GSL is quite reputable within the performance oriented circle.
Oh yeah please run some sort of sale soon…RDA/DBA/some sort of pads STAT! Every single time you've had one of those sale on, I only managed to find out about them after the event - put them up here is my recommendation.
+1 voteBrakes Direct on 25/06/2012 - 10:48 ¶Hi mate,
It's definitely not a name change. Brakes Direct is a brand/trading name we launched to compliment GSL RallySport, because there was this false stigma that all we did was competition parts, which really is only 5-10% of what we do. The company is still GSL RallySport, but certain stores and all or our trade servicing ones will operate as Brakes Direct.
So whilst Brakes Direct will just be brakes, GSL RallySport will continue to do brakes, suspension, race gear and apparel and lubricants.
