Basic USB-C Monitor for Work, Recommendations

Hi there I'm after a good value USB C monitor and height adjustable. I'm not a gamer so doesn't need to be high spec or Ultra wide just for use when I work at home, so I can get rid of excess cables.

There are 100s to choose with lots of specs that frankly I don't understand, just want something that will be ok for work and browsing. Happy to go refurbished or secondhand.

Cheers

Size? Resolution? Why not HDMI? Budget?

The why not HDMI was answered when they said "so I can get rid of excess cables", as the type C would likely charge their device and do video, simplifying things. However the other questions are extremely important.

    • Thanks for clarifying, 24" and over
(27" would be nice but not essential). Resolution, as long as it doesn't look like an Atari, no HDMI as just sick of so many cables (I know first word problem). Budget aprox 300 but flexible if higher value for small increases.

Does you device you are going to hook up to the USB-C monitor support video over the USB-C?

Good question. Mine doesnt. Regreting every single day for the last 2 years

    • Yes I only found out that this was "a thing" was used a USB C monitor last week at an office with my laptop.

Dell U2422H, or HE if you need/want the ethernet port.

Have this chained up into a U2520D and ending on a P2419H. Works pretty well.

    • Will have a look, cheapest I can find is this for $299 delivered which is good as I'm in a rural location.

I’m not sure if the P is video over USB-C. You want the U.

P2419 does video over USB-C. I have the USB-C monitor version

@kerfuffle: That’s not the model that was linked in the comment I was responding to.

      Dell U2422H, or HE

This is what i recently got from Dell Outlet store. The HE as main hub piggy backing to a HX.

      Pretty happy with the setup.

      • Cheers yes I was just reading up on it and was talking about HDMI cable so was thinking it may not be a USB C "hub" as ideal just want Usb-c as only cable to laptop. Will check out the HX

    get rid of excess cables

If you already have a monitor and your only goal is to get rid of excess cables, just buy a USB-C dongle, you can get one for $20.

Plug your monitor (via HDMI), USB devices, USB-C charger into the dongle, use double-sided tape to stick the dongle to the back of your monitor to keep the cables out of the way and you've got a one-cable solution.

    • I was going down that route but mine is a VGA dinosaur and it plays with resolution when using the adaptors unfortunately.

Allot cheaper to get a new FHD HDMI monitor & USB-C to video adapter than a USB-C monitor.

      • That is ultimate tight ass, kudos for surviving this long with that monitor!!!
Think you should just upgrade your monitor already mate!

  • Have found a used Dell U2722D that seems to tick a lot of boxes but just trying to determine if it does all via Usb-c. As some ads state that it's a "Usb-c hub" and others say able to charge mobile via Usb-c at 15w without mentioning integrating all (vid, audio, power and peripherals). They seem to use different language for al versions so I'm finding it hard to translate into functionality….
