Samsung HW-Q990B/XY 11.1.4 Soundbar $1199.00 + Delivery ($0 to Most Areas) @ Powerland eBay

410
SNSOCT

Original Coupon Deal

Was looking to buy a Q990B, it's currently discounted from $2099 to $1499 at JB/TGG, etc. Checked eBay and Powerland have it for $1299 with $100 coupon SNSOCT bringing it down to $1199 delivered.

Doesn't seem to be limited to eBay Plus. As far as I can tell this is an all time low price?

I've purchased, my Yamaha 207B broke last week, so I've been waiting for a deal on this.

Oh so close. Come on Black Friday sales!

    • Under $1,000? Likely?

      • I personally doubt it

      • +1

My buy in is somewhere between $1000-1100.
It’s a game of greed within that.

    https://www.amazon.com.au/gp/product/B07PXWXSRY/ref=ppx_yo_d…

I've purchased these to mount the rear speakers. Pricey, but in stock in aus and seem to be the go to recommendation to fit the rear speakers for these.

    • +1

I have the same and works well.

    • Buy from Amazon US cheaper with delivery charge

    • Rear speakers also goes well on top of these IKEA Bar stools if you wanna save $50

      https://ingka.page.link/RRdYUxKP3se8daUL9

    • It's basically delivery due tomorrow, tracking still hasn't updated. Contacted seller who was very weird and said it's already been delivered but if it hasn't he'll refund, which he promptly did.

So buyer beware. I've purchased them from Amazon US now, cheaper but I'll have to wait. Oh well.

Got mine here a few months back. Great sound bar

  • $77 Delivery

    • Yep - to WA

      • i have ebay plus and i still have to pay 77$ postage! wtf

Great price for a great soundbar

    • +1

Agreed. Fantastic price for an absolutely brilliant soundbar. Got mine a few months back for around $1300. Phenomenal sound.

  • How does it compare to Q930B ($900)?

    • 9 ch vs 11 ch, 2 extra speakers. Not sure what internal difference is but if you’re dropping $900 might as well drop a bit more and get the best out there.

  • +1

I’m pretty new to soundbars, but why would you pickup something like this over say, a more traditional amplifier and speaker setup - ease of use or setup? Just wondering on what I may be missing (currently have a 7.1 amp with wired speakers)
    Thanks

    • +7

Yes ease of use is the main one
      Simple
      Sleeker looking
For smaller living rooms, or apartments
      WAF (wife acceptance factor)
For those who don't really care too much about sound but want something that will still be 10x better than their TV speakers

      • I agree with most of your reasons for buying these, but disagree with the bit about smaller rooms, or apartments and for those who don't really care too much about sound. I have mine in a large loungeroom and don't run them above 20% volume, and the sound is exceptional.

        • That is great to hear! I was just listing some possible reasons why people would opt for a soundbar rather than a traditional amp/speaker set up. A traditional amp/speaker set up will almost always be superior in terms of sound quality however if you rent a small apartment you might be better off with a soundbar :-)

          • @Porkr0ll: This is a particularly wide soudbar, so no real difference having dedicated fronts. No issues whatsoever with the width of the sound stage that you experience with most soundbars.

The rears are also quite powerful and with good placement provide amazing coverage (sound bubble)

But yes, as it doesn't have dedicated middle side speakers, or ceiling mounted speakers it's not as good as a premium system with the additional speakers. (caveat, I do think this sounds better than a lot of budget systems with dedicated speakers). If you have a flat roof, the upward facing drivers do a bloody good job.

PS: I recently swapped out a dedicated 5.1 system for this and it blows it out of the water.
I have a large room, and like others say volume is not an issue, running well below 30 and the sub is quite powerful.
Tip: If you contact Samsung you can purchase an additional Sub. You need to say 'replacement' or they won't sell you one.

            • @UltimateAI: Hey mate Q990B takes dual subs?

              • +1

                @BargainHuntahh: No, unfortunately not.
But quite good sound even from the single sub. In my experience and set up atleast.

              • @BargainHuntahh: Yes, but not officially.

                • @UltimateAI: Ahhh..interesting! So you're rocking dual subs with q990b? Would you be kind enough to share how to get this done or maybe point me in a direction which does?

                  TIA

        • +2

My lounge room is around 6m x 6m and anything over 20% is just too deafening. When watching a movie with Dolby Atmos on, it is just pure JOY. Cannot say enough how impressed I am with the sound.

    • for me it's the cost, a 9+ channel receiver is already priced within spitting distance of a whole soundbar setup. easily triple the cost to get decent speakers and subs on top.

it's just for living room entertainment, for music listening usually a 2.1 desk setup or headphones would be better.

    • +1

Pretty much what the other replies said (cost, ease of use, space). I replaced my 5.1 system with floorstanding fronts with this unit, and it sure made things much tidier in terms of cabling and space taken up by the receiver and speakers. It's also cool to easily play stuff off my phone with BT or wifi (my receiver was too old to support this)

But it's important to have realistic expectations: no matter how many speakers they cram into the bar, when they're less than the size of a tissue box they'll never sound as good as decent floorstanders or bookshelf speakers. To my ears they did the big explosions and surround stuff well, it was the subtle things like dialog that felt a little less "open" and more like they were coming from a TV box. But it still sounded very good (better than LG's top model) and within a few days I couldn't notice anything lacking.

The other thing you miss out on with a receiver is inputs; with this soundbar you only have 2 (and they're a bit awkwardly positioned). You can use your TV's inputs but at least for my unit that meant upmixed stereo unless I could specify DD or DTS (like with a PS4/PS5).

    • Here's a good comparison of the Q990B, Sony's flagship soundbar and an expensive HT with discrete speakers.

    Its a great Soundbar

I have this and the JBL 5.1

The samsung is far better, at this price range. Works great if you have a q symphony tv too.

  • Does the Atmos function not work if your don't have a Samsung tv . I was reading this somewhere

    • +1

Get a Nvidia Shield or Apple TV

      • I do have a shield tv and mostly only use that

    • +2

Atmos works fine with my Sony tv. Just make sure to select audio pass through in tv settings.

    • Atmos will work fine if your source is the TV, passed through via eARC. Q-Symphony, Samsung's marketing BS for object tracking sound, will require this to be paired with a Samsung TV.

      • Would it work if I use PC as source?

        • +1

If you connect direct to the soundbar then yes. If you connect PC>TV>Soundbar, Atmos will still work, but DTS X might not, depending on your TV manufacturer

    • +1

It works fine, they refer to WiFi connectivity. Under WiFi you need a Samsung TV for all formats.
But you should use ARC\eARC it's better anyway. WiFi is just for pure convenience. Good option though if you have a wall mounted Samsung TV and can't run a HDMI cable between soundbar and the tv.

    • +1

I've got an LG TV and the previous version of this (Q950A) and it's happy to play Atmos from the TV apps

  • Got it down to $1179 with ebay plus, been looking for one for past few weeks, thanks OP :)

    • how did you get it down to $1179?

      • There's a different code that makes $120 discount. Not sure if it's eBay plus only though.

        • What’s the code? Im ebay Plus member but didn’t see the code. TIA

          • +1

@theimba: Looks like it's targeted and not transferable…

3.Conditions. This offer entitles Eligible Users to a Discount off the pre-coupon purchase price (excluding postage costs) on Eligible Items during the Offer Period. Multiple items may be purchased in up to 3 transactions (up to a maximum of 10 items per transaction). “Eligible Users” means users who can see the offer in their My eBay account. This offer is not transferable.

          • +1

@theimba: I think it might’ve been targeted as david said below, it just showed up under price saying take $120 off and then gave me a random code.

          • @theimba: Got the code too for $120 off. Looks like a targeted code. If you have it, it'll show you an option to take $120 off this item underneath the price on the product's eBay page.

  • Also on the Powerland website for price matching, since eBay generally can’t be price matched. Of course without the $100 eBay rebate. But may be useful if your wanting local supply. eBay still adds significant freight cost and no returns.

  • Anyone's got shipped out yet? Mine is still not shipped.

    • Same. The delivery is estimated between 15 and 21 November.

      • Just had a look at their handling time, it says will ship within 10 business days of receiving cleared payment, which is fairly slow considering most items bought from eBay are shipped same or next day.

        • Mine was purchased over the weekend and shipped today. Est delivery is Nov 21st via TNT.

          • @Dream-cast: Did you mean the weekend 2, 3 days ago? If so, that was fast, and looks like the orders aren't processed as FIFO. I ordered on the 25th but still no updates yet.

            • @davidl820: Yes ordered a few days ago. This is my second order with them and I had a similar experience on my previous order. It took 5 days to Melbourne after it was sent. Perhaps contact them because they seem reliable.

              • @Dream-cast: Cheers mate. Just messaged them and now waiting for reply.

                • @davidl820: Did you get anything yet? I received my tracking number today.

                  • @RobotWizard: Yes, I got the tracking this morning as well. It seems they actually shipped it on 2/11 but for some reason only provide the tracking today. Estimated delivery 16/11.

                    • @davidl820: I got the tracking number at 10:45 and soundbar was here 11:45 :D

                      • @RobotWizard: Oh nice. Sounds like you have a new toy to play with over the weekend :)

I just had a look at TNT's website and mine should be here by Monday if not this afternoon.

          • @Dream-cast: Wow, my order was placed on 25th too and still no update, I am also in Melb

            • @RobotWizard: Received mine today. I believe Powerland sends express via TNT. There were delays so I should have received it on the 2nd but this occurred with TNT.

              • @Dream-cast: That’s nice, mine is all up and running, sound is soo bloody amazing even though my tv is from 2016, hope you’re having fun with yours.

Coming from old Samsung 7.1 I am amazed with how far sound bars have come.

                • @RobotWizard: Yep it's bloody marvellous. No issues setting it up or using it. Brilliant for movies and I'm more than happy with it for music. For the price it's a fantastic purchase.
