Anyone Have The 'Complete Home Filtration' Water Filter?

Hi,

I saw this at the home show and am keep to see if it passes the OzB value test?

The questions are:
Is it as good as the Google and FB reviews say?
Is it worth it?
And has anyone found an alternative (excluding under bench, fridge and Brita filter options!)

Thanks!

no its just a scam, there is nothing unsafe about drinking water that comes to your tap

Except for the chloramines, and the sodium fluorosilicate, and the particles collected through all the pipes.

Etc, etc, plenty of info out there for anyone who cares to take a look and reach their own conclusions. Will tap water kill you? Probably not in the short term but it sure doesn't help you. I used it to water some plants for a period of time, they stayed green but didn't grow or look healthy. I waters others with rainwater at the same time and difference was chalk and cheese. I realise some people have no choice in the matter.

I can understand why people want a filter for drinking/fridge water, but what reason would you want pay significant $ to filter shower, bath, toilet, washing up etc water for?

hard tap water, reduce calcium build up on shower heads, and hard clothes etc.

        Their location is Sydney
        Sydney doesn't have 'hard' water

    • Because the same nasties can be absorbed through your skin.

      • 'nasties' will require a bit more clarification on what you think is getting 'absorbed' from tap water

  • Do you hate the taste and smell of your bore or tank water? Then it is worth it, unless a possum has died in the tank.

  • Whats wrong with your water?… do you live out in the sticks?.

My old man was sold one telling him “you’ll never have to clean hard water stains off your shower glass”
Suffice to say that was total BS

    • That’s BS (because the stains aren’t from just hard water - and because most water filters don’t soften water - thought some do remove 90%+ of calcium), though if you live somewhere with really hard water you can have stalactites forming from your shower head!

You want a water softener for that though, not a filter. Most places in Australia don’t have really hard water by international standards, maybe Adelaide and to a lesser extent Brisbane. Sometimes water softeners make water feel unpleasant to shower in though. There’s supposedly some new ones which are citrus based that might have less of that side effect or might be all spin.

Ultimately they’re unlikely to be worth it in $ terms. Though depending on the cost of the filter and replacements might get you to drink more if you don’t like the taste, though probably under sink or fridge works just as well for that.

I have a 5 stage filtration system on my kitchen sink, was only $200 supplied and installed so I thought that was a great deal. Replace all the cartridge every year (meant to be 3 @ 6 months then 5 @ 1 year), the water in our area tastes very chalky and when we boiled the water without the filter, the white build-up on the kettle grows pretty quick.

Wouldn't bother with the whole house one but definitely been worth it having one in the kitchen for drinking/cooking

    • Replace all the cartridge every year

Replace the particulate filter if it gets clogged, ie the flow rate drops.
Replace the carbon filter when you start to notice the old taste returning to the water. That could be years.

  • Sydney? The tap water is fine.
If you have issues with discolouration or taste (chlorine probably) an under-bench filter will fix it. $107 from Bunnings.
Don't be conned into a house filter, as no Australian cities have really hard water, AFAIK. Not like UK.

  • I bought a whole home filtration system from PSI in Tasmania. Imho a better system than complete home filtration. Cost me 1800 delivered (plus about 500 to install) as opposed to 4800 from CHF.

    Bargain.
