Apple iPhone 13 Pro 512GB $1597 Delivered @ Officeworks

1320

I am aware of the feelings some have about paying a premium for last year's phone, but a deal's a deal.

Pretty sure I saw the 128GB going for $1499ish at JB recently during a sale.

If you manage to score one, well as Douglas Reynholm might say, "damn good bloody good damn good job"

Limit 5 per customer.

Peace

Still thinking, if iphone pro 14 or 13 pro with this bargain and difference.

    • Same here, i'm wondering if the dynamic island and camera is really worth it….

      • +16

Dynamic Island works quite well. But having used iPhone 14 Pro since release, on a regular basis, I think you won’t miss much if you were to opt for 13 Pro.

      • +5

android user here. partner uses 13pro max and a mate uses 14 pro.. I would say the island is more of a shitjob as it takes too much info to where it's not supposed to be.. the animations looks good but it keeps reminding you how big the hole is……

        • +5

Maybe, if you are not using it. I got used to it fairly quick.

      • +1

no its not. while the dynamic island is pretty neat, I'd hate to have that feature and prefer to keep it simple but that's my 2 cents.

      • The island is good. I got the 14 Pro as I couldn't find a deal justifying the 13 Pro. If you can find a 13 Pro $400-$500ish cheaper that the equivalent 14 Pro, I'd say the island and cameras are not worth it.

    • +7

You want to have a holiday on the dynamic island so go for 14 Pro.

It comes down to 512GB vs better cameras, brighter screen, always on display, faster 5G.

      • +5

I think in normal use case most people won't need 512GB
ios will automatically scale down the photos / videos and backup the original to icloud

So I reckon its better value to get 14 Pro 256GB then 13 Pro 512GB

        • +1

Agree. I’m still on 512gb iPhone 11 Pro

          13500 photos, 1200 videos, 135 apps

          Still have 394gb available.

Pay with the ultimate gift card for another 10% off https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/735201

    • +1

how to pay by the gift card online via officeworks website?

    • Last month went to buy these Ultimate Gift Cards from Woolworths, the newer version does not have Officeworks written on it. Does it mean it will still work? Don't want to take risk unless someone has tested it?

@WookieMonster are you able to advice?

      • +2

I would rely on the Ultimate gift card website for the correct list of participating retailers, unless you are looking for Ultimate gift cards that can be redeemed at rebel, BCF and Supercheap Auto.

The list of participating retailers for each Ultimate gift card changes reasonably frequently, so generally speaking, the participating retailers applicable to a particular gift card are the ones currently listed on the Ultimate gift card website, not at the time you purchased it. This was confirmed by a Blackhawk Network representative. 1 For example:

        • I purchased a couple of Ultimate Home gift cards during the 15% off Ultimate gift card deal at Coles last year, and I was able to redeem them at Officeworks over a month ago without any issues, even though I purchase the Ultimate Home gift cards many many months before Officeworks was added as a participating retailer.

        • I purchased a $500 Ultimate Home gift card during a previous Everyday Rewards bonus points deal at Woolworths and I had no issues using it at Officeworks, even though the Officeworks logo was not printed on the front of the gift card packaging.

The only exception to my advice above is the rebel, BCF and Supercheap Auto. Those retailers are being phased out of the Ultimate gift card scheme:

        • Any Ultimate Kids, Teens and Him eGift Cards issued from 01 Oct 2022 onwards will not be redeemable at rebel, BCF and Supercheap Auto.

        • Any Ultimate Kids, Teens and Him physical gift cards with the rebel, BCF and Supercheap Auto logos on the front will continue to be redeemable at rebel, BCF and Supercheap Auto, even if they were purchased after 01 Oct 2022.

        1. If you are wondering why the rep was downvoted by a few people, it was due to them glossing over the fact that JB Hi-Fi and The Good Guys were suddenly removed from two Ultimate gift cards just before they posted their comment.

        • +1

Thanks a lot. My concern was Officeworks at the moment and its clear now.

          • @crazyboy: @WookieMonster- I would rely on if you have tested and tried yourself. Apparently I had this confusion when i went to buy woolis UGC Teens or kids card which has OW listed on ugc website but logo is not on woolis physical card. I rang the company and they gave me totally different story. The only cards starting with 4578 is eligible with OW otherwise its just a hard luck to try.

I spoke with Woolis rep and they confirmed that since OW is not listed as retailer on the card we cannot guarantee.

Not sure what is correct unless someone first hand tried it recently. Can you please clarify if you have an answer, I have purchased Iphone over the phone from OW (easier to get pb in oppose to stores). paid in full but they told me that at the time of collection you can cancel this and repurchase with gc's. So want to take 10% advantage if i can.

            • @rustproofhydra: I'll elaborate further on my previous comment above.

              • If you have a physical or digital Ultimate Home, Teens, Kids, Students or Everyone gift card, you can redeem it at Officeworks if the card number starts with 457824, as that is the newer Visa version.

              • If you have a physical Ultimate Home, Teens or Kids gift card, you cannot redeem it at Officeworks if the card number starts with 502125, as this is the older EFTPOS version that is being phased out.

I purchased 2x $500 Ultimate Home gift cards (the Visa version) through this Woolworths / Everyday Rewards deal and both worked perfectly fine at Officeworks, even though Officeworks was not listed on the front of the gift card packaging.

Although I have not used an Ultimate Teens or Kids gift card (the Visa version) in my life, I am confident the Visa versions are redeemable at Officeworks for two reasons:

              • The Ultimate gift card terms and conditions state that the full and updated list of participating retailers for each Ultimate gift card can be found on the Ultimate gift card website.

              • No one has complained on OzBargain about Ultimate Kids or Teens gift cards (the Visa versions) not being redeemable at Officeworks. Officeworks was added over a month ago those Ultimate gift cards and there have been a number of Ultimate gift card deals since, so if there was an issue, it probably would have cropped up on here by now.

Btw, the Woolworths rep you spoke said the correct thing, as they should never ever guarantee whether a participating retailer is part of the Ultimate gift card scheme. If they did (and it turned out they were wrong), that would likely constitute an express warranty and would give you very strong grounds for a refund.

              • +1

@WookieMonster: Great thanks for the clarification. Apparently I visited nearby Woolis today and found they ate selling card starts with 5xxxx
So that means it won't work
By the way 2x 500 home cards which u purchased were those started with 4xxxx?

                • @rustproofhydra:

@WookieMonster: Thank you Wookie Monster. I manage to find new cards in another woolis. Going to use @ OW- will let you know how i go.

    • Can you use the gift cards for an online Officeworks purchase?

    • +1

That’s probably not a good idea if you are looking to purchase the iPhone online.

Officeworks only allows you to redeem a maximum of 1x Visa card in one online transaction, and the maximum denomination of the gift cards in the deal you linked to is $500.

The usual workaround you may see me suggest sometimes (i.e. convert your Ultimate gift cards into Officeworks gift cards or Coles Group & Myer gift cards) will not work for Officeworks, as you cannot redeem Officeworks gift cards nor Coles Group & Myer gift cards on the Officeworks online store.

You may be able to complete the purchase over the phone, but I would not bank on that, as I do not know whether staff can process more than one card in one transaction over the phone (or whether they can process orders over the phone at all!).

On the other hand, you can use multiple Ultimate gift cards in one in-store transaction at Officeworks, as long as staff know how to do this and are happy to do this (which they should be).

Only moving when usb-c is available.

    • Same !

    • +3

There is the chance that may never happen if Apple is betting on a fully wireless phone for the next release 😕

      • +14

Usb-C coming is most definite. Mark my words next Sept 23

        • +3

Haha bookmarked this for future reference

        • +3

Not likely until 2025 if Apple just follows the law.

        • +1

Then I will wait for another year.

      • +5

Knowing how apple don't like being told what to do. There is a fair chance we could end up with a completely portless iphones.

No sim tray and no charging port.

        • I think they're obliged to include physical sim trays for China/SAR markets, but otherwise this is the likely timeline.

        • +1

Isn't the 14 pro ONLY ESIM? Or is that only in America?

      • +1

Haha yeah…I was just listening to Dave2D's rant on YouTube….. highly likely

        Link to video

        https://youtu.be/jO83ARJiOfQ

        • +1

Right when it sunk in for me too.
I heard of rumours regarding the portless iPhone and using it to bypass USB-C port requirement, Dave just confirmed the heavy suspicion it will happen sooner rather than later.

        • +1

There's also a MKBHD video on this and Apple can technically still release the next two iPhones with lightning ports and still be comply with the new EU law due to when the legislation comes into effect. Two years is a lot of time in the smartphone world and will be enough time for Apple to perfect a portless phone.

      • Same feeling for earning more on accessories.

I do believe Apple won't give up on this area.

Then I will never be able to switch back to iPhone with a Type-c connector.

    • +1

It probably only matters if Apple implements at least USB 3 support. If Apple opted to do what they did for iPad 10th gen (USB-C but USB 2.0) then is it really better? I still have iPads which use lightning. Also, do we need to fork out extra to buy new AirPods? How about Mac keyboards?

We know to save cost, Apple changed USB-C to lightning 1m cable from USB 3.0 (initial batch) to USB 2.0. It's true only a couple of iPad Pro's can support USB 3 through lightning, but will Apple joins the Android camp to release a USB 2.0 USB-C to USB-C cable without USB-PD e-marking (to save cost)?

      I'd hesitate at "Overseas Model"

    • It will be hard to claim warranty. EBay only provides 30 days money back, after that it’s up to the seller. If the seller doesn’t want to help and it’s past 30 days, there is no one there to help you.

        • It is possible. They placed the order in their system for in-store pick up (free delivery was also possible), I didn’t walk away with the phone, as you said there is no stock available in store. I will go back to pick it up once it arrives, tomorrow apparently

Not a Apple hater at all, I actually love the brand (especially laptops) but one must really hate money in order to spend $1600 on this when you can have something 99% equivalent for literally a fraction of that money. I swear I'll never understand this…

    • Such as?

      • +1

literally any android phone on the 500-600 mark. Or even less, see the Motorla Edge 30 - has a decent camera, can use any apps, it's has superfast charging, it has 144Hz OLED , has NFC, a more than decent processor - it was going for $350 at JB few weeks ago. It can do exacty the same things a $1500-2000 iPhone, or Samsung, can do. Anything else is just marketing or self conviction that you really really NEED features that you will use once the day you buy it and never again. Only to buy the same exact phone the next year for another 2 grand. It's quite incredible, really.

        • You are only considering the technical aspects of the phones in your comparison. I wouldn’t change from an iPhone due to the more important considerations such as Safety, Reliability & Updates & Warranty/Service. Previously working at a bank in fraud, I saw many losses with hacked android phones, but never from iPhones. The fact that Apple vets the apps rather than Google who often have apps with malware in the Play store is very important. iMessage is another nice thing to have. Another issue with Android phones is the lack of updates as well as apps having more chance of having bugs with so many different android configurations and versions. Lastly being able to swap your phone over at an Apple store compared easily if there is a warranty problem.

          • +1

@onceupon8: Is all of that really, I mean REALLY worth the $1200-1500 extra? c'mon. With $1500-2000 I can buy a decent Android AND a decent laptop, lol.

I owned iPhones in the past but I ve been using Android in the past 4-5 years , not a single safety issue encountered. iMessage is near useless to me as I use whatsapp with pretty much anyone I know. Lack of updates, depends on the brand I guess, but also it's such a minor thing, really especially if you don't hold on to your phone for more than a couple years

The only real upside I see in iPhones is iOs having a generally less bugs, they keep their value for much longer than any Androids, and the build quality is indeed superior to most cheaper brands. But again, is it worth it the extra $1200-1500 dollars? Anwser is a resounding "No" for me.
Reality is, Apple is pretty much a luxury brand when it comes to iPhones

        • +6

I’d like to see anyone using that Motorola with still the same performance after 18 months. Something that always evades Android tragics is the regular purchase of replacement phones because they just don’t last long. Yes it will work but it slows down dramatically after 6 months. Any brand Android phone I’ve owned has done this in the past so I have first hand experience.

Yes iPhones cost more initially. But you can keep it with software updates and minimal performance loss even at 4 years.

I’m comparing like for like usage. The thought of opening a simple email app on my old android phone after 6 months reminds me why I should never go back.

          • +3

@ozeebee: Agreeed. I used all my android phones only 6 months and they go…..haywire slow. iPhone can last me 4 years.

          • @ozeebee: Out of curiosity, which Android phones have you used that have experienced this?

            • +1

@CrispyChrispy: They must have bought some truly cheap garbage if it went so bad so quickly.

              • @SleepingOnline: Not really. I bought the flagship modes of all Android phones I’ve used. Your definition of what’s working properly is just different to mine.

                • +1

@ozeebee: It must be how you're using the device, tech doesn't just 'slow down' unless an update is released that causes it (which you can downgrade from if it actually occurs). Are you completely filling the storage? Do you have too many apps running as background tasks with the RAM at 100%? I agree that these should be managed better in Android, but you have to put some fault with the users.

            • @CrispyChrispy: I’ve used Samsungs, Motorola, LG, Pixel and Sony. All the ones I had were the flagship models not the cheap basic ones. Tbh the best performing Android phone I’ve used is the Sony Xperia.

          • @ozeebee:

Something that always evades Android tragics is the regular purchase of replacement phones because they just don’t last long.

            That really depends.

Maybe this was an issue in the past.
My last and current Android phones haven't suffered from slow down.

            • P20 pro - approx two years of ownership. The device failed otherwise it would have likely lasted another year.
            • S20Fe - just over two years

I've also seen older iPhones suffer from massive lag.

I'd hazard a guess that if you're a irrational hater, you're probably buying a dodgy device based off its specs and more likely to suffer issues.

        • +1

if you think the cameras and screen quality are as good on a cheap android phone you are in la la land.

          • @gavincato: The Edge 30 for 350 bucks has an incredibly good OLED 144 Hz screen, and the camera , although inferior tio iPhones and Pixels, is way over all I'll ever need form a camera. Maybe the only time it would be sub par is night pics. But then again you can sideload GCam and have good night shots too.

If you think you "NEED" the super-hyper quality of the iPhone's camera and screen, and are ready to pay 4-500% extra because of this, then you, my friend, are the La-La Land citizen here.

            • @liongalahad: lol. Professional photographer here. I'm pretty sure I know what I need from a camera phone.

              • @gavincato: Yeah then you represent 0.001% of population, congrats. Lol.

                • @liongalahad: The market disagrees with you. But cool, you know better than everyone. Congrats.

                  • @gavincato: Yeah I know the power of marketing and how it makes people feel they need stuff they actually don't. It's the whole point of marketing really, and Apple is the best of the best at that. Enjoy your $2000 iPhone, high five!

                    • @liongalahad: ok, so I use the phone every single day for typically 3-4hrs. majority for work.

It has the best camera, the best chip, the best battery life (2 days without any power saving tricks), the best screen, the best resell value, everything works on it dead smooth all the time. It will be as fast when I sell it as the day I got it.

I keep it for 2 years. It cost $2000 from memory (256gb version).

                      2000 / 730 days = $2.73 a day.

Oh yeah, I'm being really irresponsible hey.

                      • @gavincato: You can do what you want with your money mate. To be honest nearly $3/day is not insignificant generally speaking, it's $180 bucks every 2 months, pretty much like an extra power bill or the petrol I put in my car (maybe not with today's fuel prices , but still..) I'd rather keep that cash and invest it, or spend it for a nice holiday.
I don't question who spends money in luxury, if people like to spend the extra buck for the aesthetic or the smooth experience of a car, then why not doing the same for a phone. Otherwise luxury brands wouldn't even exist. Personally I think it's not money well spent and 99% of what you do on an iPhone you can do on a much cheaper Android. Maybe it's true, after 2 years it feels a lot older and doesn't work as well as an iPhone, but it's so much cheaper, you can buy a new one every year and will still being saving a lot of money.

        • Strangely, the exact same arguement about Apple laptops - cheaper laptops and even refurbs do the exact same thing and fit the needs of many users. No-one really needs a Mac. Gamer laptops can do everything and more.

          Who really needs things like:

          • Aluminium construction
          • Brighter screens
          • Higher colour coverage
          • Lower weight
          • No fans/noise
          • USB-C charging
          • Quality keyboard
          • Speakers that are not just an afterthought
          • Ability to connect high impedance headphones
          • Ability to sleep
          • @ihfree: Mac laptops, especially Air's, don't cost 3-4 times compared to the competition Maybe tehy cost 1.5 times more but with much better perfomance (especially M1 or M2), much much better power efficency i.e. much longer autonomy on battery even with intensive use. And contructin materials are miles better than a cheap plastic PC laptop. I find Mac Air with the new CPU's to provie huge value for money actually. With iPhones, not so much.

  • I believe JB would price match

    • Even if there's zero stock in stores(officeworks)? Its definitely available for online order, but no local stock, i've heard them use that silly argument before.

      • yes, I just tired that with couple of stores and I had the exact same response !!

  • The notch is less visible than dynamic island but it does make switching easier due to its “taskbar-like” nature.

Source: I’m on dynamic island with 14pro

  • I moved from buying new (OzBargain specials) android every 6-8mths to using my wife’s iPhone X before I sold it for $720!! This was a couple of years back, I was amazed at how it kept value.
I’m now on 12 pro max, it’s very slick and works for me but I do occasionally miss the openness’s of android, however android aping iOS lately losing 3.5mm jack, as card support makes it even less attractive.

card support makes it even less attractive.

As in: a phone supports memory cards (sim cards?) = less attractive? Wut.

  • This or Iphone 12 Pro for $890 (broke my 12 Pro and that's what apple is asking for a replacement)

    • Iphone 12 Pro for 890 ? where ?

      • Sorry if my comment didn't clarify. I have a 12Pro which broke and I have to pay $890 for "repair" which they said will be a replacement..
So m wondering if I fork out that for a 2 yr old model or spend more for a newer.. don't feel 13 or 14 have any striking features that justify.. but then if my head spending 900 for the same phone hurts

        • Offtopic, but somebody may know - if Apple or perhaps any other seller replaces your phone like this, does the warranty restarts (like it should IMO) or is the new phone only covered until your current support/warranty expires?

              Paying $1300+

This product is going to last you 2 years, guaranteed, and we can take care of it even longer, if you add extra cover.

              Paying $890

We can't guarantee this very same, brand new product is working after 6 months.

            • +1

@archieduh: According to Apple your warranty continues on once it’s replaced. You can see this in the warranty coverage. The replacement device inherited same serial number.

However I had “genius” telling me it’s 2 years after it’s replaced. I lodge a complaint against Apple on this exactly issue after my IPad Pro was replaced and started to develop bleeding a year later.

Took them to consumers affair and it drag on and dealt with someone in Singapore and they refused to budge. Eventually it was replaced again at their good will.

    • No way I’d put $890 into an old phone. You could buy a pixel pro for that lol.
