Any reason why someone would buy this over Boost?

    • may be support the German Aldi!

      • +1

That's a valid reason then…otherwise, Boost is cheaper and comes with more data. Similar Boost plan was as low as mid 120's with Cashrewards earlier this week, I believe.

        • +1

          For people that:

          1) Aren't interested in WW shop discounts
          2) Want a hassle-free recharge

          • @Techie4066: Do such people exist on Ozbargain? Their Ozbargain badges should be revoked.
            .
            .
            .
            Just kidding!

            • +3

@dealhunter52: ozbargainers looking out for data-hungry oldie relatives :P
shame the $99 super pack isn't available

          • @Techie4066: What's WW discount got to do with Boost?

            • +1

@huntabargain: Nothing, it's an alternative. WW Mobile plans pay for themselves and have a network quality equivalent to Aldi.

    • You don't get access to the full Telstra network 4GX (Less coverage and speed can be reduced), which is a problem for people that travel or live inland or in regional areas. I think they are much the same in regards to roaming (if you want to use it overseas) and there are mild differences in international calls. Aldi is an MVNOs, where boost is owned by Telstra. Boost has better customer service (don't think it's important, but added).

It's a decent deal for the extra data if you aren't affected by any of the issues above.

Here is a comparison I found (might be out of date).

      • +1

        boost is owned by Telstra

False. Why do ppl repeat this.

        • Sorry I wasn't aware that boost was run solo ( Boost Tel PTY Limited). As for people making the error, when you google it the first thing that comes up in Telstra, then articles make statements like "Telstra is practically a Boost owner here in Australia". Boost uses many of the same numbers as Telstra and uses the same call centres and staff. You can ring Telstra helpdesk if the boost lines are full and they can complete helpdesk requests (normally after telling you to ring the lower priority boost line next time0. They are operated by Telstra in many ways from the customers view, hence the mistake is easy to make

          • @Froot Loops: Yes I'm aware, I've dealt with their support before. Boost Aus was founded by and is still managed by Peter Adderton. He also founded Boost USA.

Boost Sim 200 is cheaper, better value and on the full Telstra Network unlike this partial Telstra !

    • Link?

      • +2

The Boost $200 for 140GB plan is… perhaps unsurprisingly… $200. So, more expensive, and with 8GB additional data. Same Telstra network

        https://boost.com.au/products/200-prepaid-sim

      • +2

Plenty of deals were posted here in the last few days, eg. was $160 with $35 cashreward back. You can search Ozbargain and find the deals yourself.

        • +1

All expired. Let’s all live in the present, rather than reminiscing over the past

          • +2

@tharlow: So these deals just expired yesterday or the day before??
If you bothered to check current deals you find its currently $156, but call me lazy…

    • New customer only, so if I’m already on Telstra post paid, do I need to port out like another network and then port back in using $200 boost ?

      • +1

If you are current Boost you have 2 options, opt out for short time then opt back in Or call Boost CS and ask them nicely and they will recharge your account when expires without moving out. But not sure how it works if you have Telstra Sim as you might be classified as new customer anyway.

  • +2

Any word on the $99 plan? Used to be sold regularly, but not for 1.5 years now which is absurd.

    • +1

If you buy this pack pack then next time you renew the $99 plan option is available along with 1TB etc. All Super Packs are available.

      • Yes, however it's much easier and more convenient if you're buying for an older person/secondary phone etc to get the right plan and save money from the get go.

        • +1

Yes. I gave up waiting on the $99 pack

  • -1

Boost $200 plan looking like a winner

    • I wonder who the winner is for under $100 12 month plans using Telstra network

      • Unless you’re grandfathered under the Aldi Super Pack, the winner is no one. Maybe Woolies is the closest to your finish line

        • +2

It's not grandfathered, it is available when you recharge any Aldi super pack. The first year is the killer though.

          • -1

@beastontheroad: That’s what grandfathering means in this case — you need a Super Pack to renew a Super Pack

            • +1

              @tharlow: If you say so

              • @beastontheroad: So, as an example, if you buy a Super Pack today, you are grandfathered in to the $99 Super Pack renewal. Not all grandfathers are dead, lol

  • If I'm going to use in overseas, does Aldi and Boost offer international roaming?

As far as I'm aware that aldi doesn't have free calls to overseas where as Boost does, but not sure about the international roaming while in overseas, can someone please advise on this for me? Thanks!

    • correct, Boost have lots of included International free calls and international sms. also they have WIFI calling. but they currently do not have roaming available yet, but heard some report that this will change, not sure about details or when tho.
I could not establish / verify if you can use the WIFI calling while overseas.

      • I know Aldi if you charge up the PAYG credit, you can use that for roaming in overseas, but no Wi-Fi calling function.

Boost on the other hand, it has Wi-Fi calling in Australia, but not sure if is work or not while overseas. And you have confirmed currently they don't have overseas roaming. So, I think if using in Australia, I would go for Boost, just because of the Wi-Fi calling and the "full telstra coverage". However, the downside is Boost don't look after their existing customers, they don't offer discounts for renewal etc.

        • Just checked Boost site, it states:
Heading overseas? (Lucky you!) International Roaming is available in 40 destinations. Simply recharge using the Boost App when you get to your destination.
          5GB
          $40
          14 DAY EXPIRY
          60 MINUTES CALLS & 60 TEXTS

I think with Aldi PAYG it cost $1-$2 per min to either receive or make a call. So Boost rate seems to be cheaper.

          • @huntabargain: They must've just launched it. Damn that's terrible value and so disappointing. Felix's $20 for 365 days 4GB/100 mins/100 texts much better.

            • @Techie4066: Is Felix (who the hell are they) on Vodafail Network?
Does their plan cost $35 / month?
Are you planning to be roaming for 365days a year?
Gee, that sounds like a terrible deal to me.

  • Why does the image look like a condom box

    • 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

    • Extensive market research dictated this design — i.e., subliminally it communicates that ALDImobile is the most fun you can have with a mobile service
