Can you do just 3 sides for a 77inch with this?

    • +1

its just a LED String, so you can do what ever you want, in saying that tho, the advertising makes it looks like there are 4 color zones in the LED Strip which are contolled based on what the camera sees on the 4 corners of the tv.

so the effect might not be quite as nice if the lights are only on 3 sides and not really lined up correctly with what the camera is seeing.

      • +1

There are more colour zones, but it's actually 4 strips (2 long, 2 short) separated by short lengths of cable for the corners. I suspect that hardware with the camera in combination are used to figure where the corners are.

    Oh my. Tempted now.

  • Bought it for $112 not too long ago. This is a Great price.

  • Does anybody own this? I've been watching the review videos and quite oftenly the lights don't match the colours on screen - despite the massive number of positive reviews. I might just be nitpicking but just curious - it's definitely something I'd like to buy and the price still seems really reasonable for what you get.

    • I own this. Love it so far. Paid $112 for it couple of months. At this price it's a steal.

You have to play with the settings e.g brightness, white balance and contrast to get more accurate colours

      • Yeah I was under the impression some people didn't set it up properly and some didn't even have the camera attached to the tv so makes sense. I'm getting one to see how it goes :) cheers

    • +1

The colours aren't supposed to be a perfect match, bias lighting is generally softer. This also won't perfectly match the TV image as there will be a very slight lag using the camera system compared to in-line HDMI device like Philips Hue sync box. Otherwise it's great for the price.

      • Fair. I owned 2 Ambilight TVs in the past, always loved the feature, shame they didn't make them anymore and require you to get the lights and the hub now. Getting something that's close to it should be enough and especially cause it's a lot cheaper than the Hue set.

    • I've had one for a couple of months as well and it's not 100% accurate color wise ..it's all about configuring the white balance and the brightness to a point where it adds to the atmosphere and doesn't distract. The immersion when watching movies or shows is awesome. Don't think I was ready to fork out 6 to 700 on a hue system so this is a great price, extended for Black Friday Cyber Monday

  • Any owners find the camera above the TV annoying? I doubt it blocks any of the screen, but thought I’d ask anyway. YouTube vids seem to show a different camera than this model.

    • +2

Yes. I mounted mine below the screen and then hid it with a soundbar.

      • I didn’t know that was an option. Sounds like a good idea. Thanks!

      • Did you need to change how the lights were mounted (reverse direction?) or mount as per the manual and calibrated through the app?

      • +1

I just got mine a couple of days ago and would not recommend this, unless your TV is in a dark room with minimal to no light, especially coming from above. The reason being that the camera will incorrectly receive input from such light sources which will lead to incorrect colours being displayed (I kept getting a yellow/orange spot on the bottom left corner of my screen and couldn't work out why until I googled the issue and realised it was due to one of the ceiling lights reflecting off the TV screen, particularly during dark scenes). Top mounting is the way to go and I haven't had any issues since.

    • +1

Honestly after a while you forget it's there because 90% of the time you're focused on the middle/center of the screen anyway, but YMMV.

    • Mine is also mounted below the screen .works great. Not noticeable

  • How does this turn on / off… as its external to the TV and other devices is this something you need to manually do? of does it connect by CEC to know or some passthrough power connector?

    • Via the app
Or you can set it to be connected to your Google assistant/home

    • I use Google voice assistant. Its very responsive.

    • You can also use automations in Google Home to turn the gov light strip on and off when your television turns on and off and the brightness also works great

  • thanks OP, I almost pulled the trigger a couple of weeks ago, lucky I waited :)

  • Any deals for 85 inch TV?

  • Thanks OP. Pulled the trigger to replace my el cheapo RGB lighting!

  • +2

Received mine today. Quick and easy to install.

You can use this YouTube video to help calibrate the camera. Saves you from sticking the orange blocks on your tv. https://youtu.be/lR_Pxd8hrd4

    • If my tv is wall mounted would i have to remove from wall to install the kit. Also approximately how long did it take you to setup?

      • +1

Took me less than 30 minutes. I stuck the led strips while my tv was mounted. But I guess it depends how much space you have between your tv and wall.

        • Thanks for the info 👍

    • Mine still hasn't shipped!

  • Has anyone used it on a larger TV? How is it?

    • You can physically fit it, but I would imagine it's not ideal since the camera assumes the led strip will cover the entire perimeter of the TV and light it up accordingly. Having it short of the actual perimeter will distort/mismatch the lighting from what is actually displayed.

  • has anyone seen it on a black wall

  • Got another one last night, paired with the cashrewards deal, and got it down to $76.5. The first unit I got, which I'm very happy with, cost me $110 from Amazon US last year.

  • Can this be used with a 50inch TV? Or is there one designed for smaller tvs?

    • Nope. It’s almost the exact dimensions of a 55 inch tv. It barely fit my 55 CS.

  • Went to purchase it with the shopback cashback and was a few minutes too late :(

  • +1

Very happy with the product. Got it last night.
Real bright. Easy to set up. Just manage to fit it on my LG CS 55. Will definitely not work on smaller screens. Unfortunately, because it was such a tight fit, if I’m not sat near the centre of the screen I can see the LEDs from the edge. Not a big deal.

Did not use the sticky calibration blocks. I used the video that was linked to in this thread.
