Covered this one many times. This isn't an all-time low, but it may drop further on Thursday/Friday or through the weekend. It's not Sennheiser mids, but it's wide sounding with good imaging and tonality.

Solid amp also required, but you can build towards that over time. Good balance between musical performance and competitive gaming prowess, probably the best of the headphones in this price range. Enjoy!

  • I used to have the AKG K7XX and these have a similar build quality, some of the plastic bits will crack if the headset is twisted too much. Also the elastic in the suspension system will eventually get loose and won't clamp your head properly, also basically impossible to replace. Honestly for a neutral open back headphone I would probably recommend something like a Sennheiser 560S over this.

I wouldn't. I've had mine for years and they are still like new. Sure they aren't the most robust but that's what makes them quite light. Take care of them and they will last.

Amazing reference sound. Just note for those of you that don't realise that reference sound doesn't equal bass headphones. Quite the opposite really.

I bought these as a display stock model. I do enjoy them, very comfortable on my head and the sound is very neutral which I enjoy. As the above comment says, it's not "bassy" for sure. I've got them on a tube amp which does warm them up a little. Have used for gaming too and the soundstage is accurate.

No detachable cable but I'm planning to do the following mod:

    • For those who desperately want the detachable cable, the K702 is there at $230ish, but you're getting notable upper mids shout added on (+2/+3 db), and less bass extension.

  • I have the 712 Pros, and it's night and day when I use them with or without a headphone amp. They are certainly power hungry. I don't know how much that translates through to these 612 Pros, but worth considering. For the record, I love my 712 pros, one of the best purchases I've made, they are on my head right now.
