i just got my ONE X on friday :(

  • Decent price indeed. 110 bucks less than a S3 from Shoppingsquare hmm…

  • +22

    $505.44 with discount code CARBONTAX

    • Are you serious?

      • +1

        Carbon Tax 0.7% discount
        $3.56

        It works :O

  • +1

Is that including i.e 7 tax? LOL

  • +6

I'm going to wait a couple of days. When the S3 got discounted, everyone else followed suit and played price wars for a few days and what seemed like a bargain at first ended up looking like a regrettable purchase.

    • +1

Well buy when you need it, not think too much to keep the value, this sort of aud500+ mobiles value would drop like hell. If you consider resale value buy a huawei x3 for $75, you might still able to sell it after 1 year for $50 :)

      • I don't really care about resale value. I just don't want it dropping by $20-50 the day after I buy it. Seems pretty quiet though. If there's no further movement I'll buy it tomorrow.

  • Anyone out there used an S3 and HTC One X? Which one would you buy and why?

    • +1

I own neither but I tested them both at JB Hi-fi and I like the One X's screen better. The colors look more natural to me. Blank white screens on the S3 looked kind of dark even with the brightness on max. And when I compared the two phones viewing a blank page I noticed the S3's white looked bluey and not as bright. That is a symptom of AMOLED screens and has been there since the first Galaxy.

For me screen is super important and that alone is why I want a One X over the S3. But if you can look past that, the S3 is an overall better phone. Has removable battery and exandable memory. Bigger battery also.

      • +3

Agreed, that the htc one x has a better screen, but I'd still go for the S3 for the reasons you said.

      • Im a long term Android user and have found the HTC ONE X a great phone there has been tons of improvement from the Desire (Bravo) with the hardware and the HTC Software customization
For a top of the line phone for 505 dollars plus delivery this is def a bargain :)

    • I own the S3, but my brother has a One X.

I tend to switch phones quite often so have owned the Galaxy Nexus, Optimus 2X and GS1 (in reverse order).

I find that the S3 is a huge step up from the Galaxy Nexus and is noticeably faster than the One X that my brother owns.

      S3 >>>One X>>>>>>>> Galaxy Nexus >>>>>>> Optimus 2x >>>>GS1 IMO

S3 has better colors on the screen, larger screen, faster, removable battery, expandable storage, lasts longer and will probably receive updates sooner than the One X.

      • On any objective measure, the One X has better, ie. more accurate, colours. And the unlocked HTC Sensation received ICS a month before the unlocked SGS2 so I'd say your last point is debatable too. Lasts longer? Not sure about that - those hardware home buttons on Galaxy phones are prone to breaking (aside from being ugly) and the build quality on the last two HTC phones I've had have been better than my friends' Samsungs. That said, I'd still get the S3 because the developer community seems to have shifted from HTC to Samsung. Not really happy with how far the camera protrudes on the One X either. Begging for the lens to be scratched.

        • Galaxy S 2 had ICS pushed in March, Sensation in May

If you received it late then it is the fault of carriers.

Screen - S3 has better view in sunlight and higher display contrast

Lasting longer - personal experience (me and family members) so guess that didn't belong in the post

        • ICS for Sensation started rolling out ICS on March 8. I received the OTA update on my Sensation (bought outright from Crazy Sales) two weeks after that. ICS for some European and Korean Galaxy S2s started rolling out on March 14, which was earlier than I thought so I guess HTC and Samsung are about the same when it comes to updating unlocked phones. And you must have got a better SGS3 than these guys who found it fared very poorly in sunlight: http://www.pocket-lint.com/news/45801/which-smartphone-best-…

My personal opinion is the Galaxy Nexus is the best phone right now for non-gamers because it has a fully-functional and stable stock Jellybean ROM. It's very, very smooth and has some nice features like Google Now (although I'm not having much luck with voice recognition accuracy). Not a single bug or crash since I flashed it (only two days though).

        • Yes - GSM arena must also have gotten the 'better' batch when they were comparing the One X and Galaxy S 3

Also this is straight off the HTC blog (official site)

29 March 2012: Updates for HTC Sensation and HTC Sensation XE
For those of you with an HTC Sensation and HTC Sensation XE, we have some updates for you! Most European carriers will start rolling-out ICS for these devices this week. For carriers outside of Europe, we will be pushing updates over the next few weeks and will have specifics soon.

Wow - March the 8th? You know custom roms don't count right?

          and also

          http://www.gsmarena.com/samsung_galaxy_s_iii_vs_htc_one_x-re…

'Higher display contrast and better sunlight legibility'

        • I'm not sure why you're trying to dispute history. Even the initial post on that official page, from 13th March, says, "we’re in the early stages of rolling out Android 4.0 for the HTC Sensation and HTC Sensation XE and upgrades will be more widely available in the next few weeks". You quoted the update from March 29th that said European carriers had started rolling out updates for their branded phones. Unbranded phones started getting their updates on March 8th, starting with The Netherlands:

    • Own a One X, tried the SGS3 and came from the SGS2. The screen on the One X would be the main selling point, whereas the SGS3 would have the better specs.

    http://m.gsmarena.com/samsung_galaxy_s_iii_vs_htc_one_x-revi…

In a nutshell, the S3 wins.

But IMO, the One X is much better value.

  • Stupid question I'm sure, but this phone is tribad 3g right - not you can select 850mhz or not (I'm looking to replace an Incredible s - love the phone, don't need anything more powerful, but I need next G coverage).

Is this the best deal for a reasonable (incredible s equiv or higher) that will give me next g coverage?

    • HSDPA 850 / 900 / 1900 / 2100
Yes it's dual band 3G (Australian dual band)

  • Not going to neg but this looks like everyday price on staticice.

    • +4

      No…

    • Really? Which other retailer has this price?

  • -4
    • +5

      umm.. You mean $509 + $80 shipping.

      Read it properly.

      • I've been caught out by them myself - got really excited. Then realised "FREE RETURN POSTAGE" doesn't mean FREE POSTAGE

HTC One X Android Smartphone - WHITE + FREE GIFT + FREE RETURN POSTAGE

  • I bought HTC - like it more then S3 with Beats Headphones from Vodac (updated phone from IPhone 4) - $59 plan/ 12 month ( 1 free ) + $10 phone pm . Total $769 inc calls and data + australian warranty nearly 2 month ago. I think it is still better deal.

    • The Beats headphones aren't includes with One X. Where did you buy them from, and did you get them for cheap?

      • It was included with Vodafone - in box urbeats - cost only postage $9.

I have a One XL 32GB Telstra and my gf has a SGS3 Telstra
If you use the internet a lot on your smartphone

    One XL >>> SGS3 > One X

Its a shame the One X isn't as well built as the XL aswell (better dac/gps/processor/powerconsumption)

    • +1

x- quad CPU, XL- dual only FYI.

      • Another thing if it matters…

        One X - 32GB onboard storage
Telstra One XL - 32GB onboard storage
Kogan One XL (sold out) - 16GB onboard storage

Anyone know if the Kogan One XL works on the Telstra 4G network?

  • doesn't htc have multitasking issue?

    • its been patched already

  • +1

I was seriously considering one of these but it's got that Beats crap embedded all through it which sounds very annoying.

    • +1

You know you can just disable it from the notification bar if you don't like it?

  • DWI is even cheaper - $515 shipped.
