  • They both look extremely good but id go for the Samsung knowing they produce most of the panels on the market today .

    But thats just my opinion.

  • Another vote for the Samsung. So many reviews rate it at or near the current top LED, including Choice.

    • Choice also recommended the Fisher & Paykel fridge as the best on the market. :-(

  • I bought the es7500, which aside from the smart tv hardware only having a single core cpu (the 8000 has two), the functionality is the same and it is nearly 20% cheaper for the same size.
And the screen frequency difference (600hz vs 800hz) - which I couldn't tell the difference at the distance at which I was going to be watching the tv.

But to answer your question - samsung :-)

  • how is Samsung es8000 compared to Sony (i think it's hx820?? or is there a higher model than this?)

  • Smart TV in my experience is slow, buggy and difficult to navigate due to the inadequacies of control by button pressing remote.

    • The higher series ES models have a camera and mic built in so it's similar in how you'd control the xbox360 kinect thru gesture or voice command. They also have a touchpad/mic remote so no more buttons on one of the two remotes that come with the tv. I'm not sure what the lowest size/series samsung tv has the cam/mic built in tho sorry.

With that said, the voice control for the tv is finicky. But the biggest annoyance for me is when the kids change channels on me without touching the remote so…

  • +1

Buy any TV, put a PS3/Xbox 360 on it and BAM smart TV. Smart TVs are overrated IMO

    • agreed, the smart tv functionality of most TVs is pretty meh, and to buy a TV just based on the fact that it's a smart tv would be a bit questionable. but the thing is, it often comes part and package with the higher spec'ed TVs anyway.

if you're looking at getting rid of the htpc hooked up to the TV then it does make sense for some, but yeah I would like to think that if you've done your research the smart tv functionality would be the cream on top and not what drives the purchase.

  • I don't have a smart tv and have no need for one myself.
Every Samsung product I have owned has either totally failed or performed poorly.
Samsung customer support was as good as their product… pathetic.
In direct contrast every LG product I have performs beyond expectiation and not one has failed.
Others will have had different experiences but this is mine.
