Bauhn Bluetooth Gimbal with Extendable Tripod $49.99 @ ALDI

70

ALDI is selling a Gimbal that triples as a tripod, selfie stick and phone stabiliser. There is a 60 day return policy and 1 year warranty.

Bauhn is an established value brand and their products have never broken on me but I have questioned whether the quality is all there.

  • Rechargeable battery
  • Secure mobile phone holder
  • Maximum extension pole length of 85cm
  • Compact – folds down to only 19cm
  • Up to 360° rotation
  • Automatically balances with the click of a button

Bauhn is an established value brand

It's not a brand in the traditional sense.
a product manufactured by a particular company under a particular name.

Bauhn is just the Trademark owned & applied by Aldi to consumer electronics etc it sells.
Aldi does not manufacture the products or provide support.

It's from different suppliers who promote the products to Aldi (usually shown on packaging) & manufactured in various factories for a cheap price!
Aldi acts more like a marketplace for suppliers products under the Aldi trademark.

Quality & quality control can be the biggest unknowns. Some products may be great, others crap.

That's the reason Aldi have the 60 day return policy! It's part of Aldi's marketing strategy (limited quantity + easy return = impulse purchases), & pushes product issues back on suppliers. It's not really there to help consumers!

An Aldi supplier said products are returned to the suppliers, who never know why it's been returned - to be able to improve future products.

    • +1

Sounds like Aldi screwing suppliers to me.

      • Not really.
        They each benefit one another.

Aldi can continue to provide special buy items which lure customers in to buy their groceries.
Suppliers get access to Aldi customers to sell their cheap products (usually from china) under the Aldi brand name.

Aldi will give the first 60 days of free returns to encourages customers to impulse buy their cheap products.
After 60 days Aldi does not have to deal with any warranty issues (unlike other retailers e.g. bing lee, good guys, HN)

Suppliers handles the warranty which may be hit or miss.
This is especially important when it comes to ACL where some suppliers either don't know or don't care about ACL even if you threaten with them ACL complaint.
They will keep telling you sorry you are out of warranty period and there is nothing they can do, even if you mention the ACL etc.

If they were a big retailer like ( bing lee, good guys, HN) then the mention of ACL would usually get you some sort of result (ie repair, replacement or refund)
but their suppliers are not big retailers so they don't care about ACL complaint threat etc..

        • That all sounds horrible for everyone involved, except Aldi.

Don't you agree Aldi is using it's buying power by standing on the supplier and removing rights from the consumer?

    • Some of their suppliers are also crap when it comes to warranty.
Some of those suppliers don't know or care about Australian Consumer Law either.
It's is like gambling when it comes which supplier may or may not be good.

That's the shit thing about buying from Aldi,
only good for the first 60 days of free returns
then after that you got to deal with those shitty suppliers.

So it is best not to buy really expensive products from Aldi
if you are care about long term warranty and especially if you about getting protected by the Australian Consumer Law.

      • Warranty issues - better to put the pressure on Aldi, if you don't mind a refund. Be knowledgeable of the ACL & tell the manager its their responsibility to deal with faulty merchandise they sell.

        Always got a refund.
But now won't buy any product costing more than $20 @Aldi. It's not worth the hassle.

      • Long ago, diagnosed a firmware programming error in a DgTec PVR sold only through Aldi. Contacted the DgTec service centre - "no one else has had a problem with the product". So there was no fault!

Not surprising - given most Aldi shoppers aren't so technically adept or likely to use that combination of scheduling functions that caused the problem.
If they found it faulty - they could simply return within the 60 days, without any explanation of issues.

Sent DgTec my diagnosis of problem. Was told to return at my expense for assessment. If found to operate to DgTec expectations - I had to pay for assessment & return delivery!

Returned the crap DodgieTec unit to Aldi as was within 60 days.
So the fault never existed as they never saw a faulty unit! Very handy for supplier & Aldi!

  • How many axis of rotations are there? Doesn't look like a proper gimbal.

  • +1

This is a selfie stick, not a gimbal. They may use the wrong photo or wrong description.

    • "Automatically balances with the click of a button"
But looks like a selfie stick.

    • Seems like a gimbal, a 2 axis one.

For a few bucks more you can get a better solution from a company that doesn't treat it's customers and suppliers so poorly.

    • +1

Aldi treats it's customers poorly, how?

        • +3

This keeps costs down and Coles have even done this without a checkout operator.
Aldi actually mention on their website special items that may not be available in certain areas.
I find them to be quite good hence my question.
They are pretty popular too so I'm sure I'm not alone.

          • -1

@Spendmore: Coles/Woolies have an option to self serve, they don't force poor service.

            • +2

@[Deactivated]: Aldi don't force you to shop there.
If you think someone not bagging your groceries is bad treatment of customers you need to get out more.

            • -1

@[Deactivated]: They don’t force it, it just comes naturally.

  • +1

2 axis, missing the most important z axis, rubbish product

    • I thought 2 axis would mean 1 axis side to side and 1 axis up and down.
But this product looks like just 1 axis side to side?

  • +4

This is the cheapest Gimbal I’ve ever seen

Much better deal is this: well known gimbal brand Moza 2-axis selfie gimbal for $37.56 delivered with digidirect 20% off code
    https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/402860210149

  • Is it light weight?

  • -1

With that price you can get a Zuiyun SMOOTH X gimble which at least has 2 axis support and dedicated app https://www.aliexpress.com/item/4001043018975.html

    • Not sure why got downvoted
Zuiyun is a wellknown brand in mobile phone gimble and having dedicated app enhanced the features like active tracking and content creation

      See the review here: https://youtu.be/Dt1H0Codijo

With the similar price tag why not buy a known brand with proper reviews?

      • ozbargain comment threads have deteriorated to reddit levels of negging by paid shills/snowflakes.

  • Is there any advantage using a gimbal/stabilizer when your phone has good internal stabilization like a Pixel 7 Pro?
I see some will track objects and people. Does that replace the photographer?
I checked out a few brands on Aliexpress and thought the Q08, that was advertised as anti-shake with stabilizer, probably wasn't but did do an interesting manouvre in keeping the phone level.
I saw these Bauhn things in Aldi and thought them over priced selfie sticks.
My final conclusion is you would look silly using one, it probably does nothing and is just a drawer filler but I would like to be better informed.

    • Internal stabilisation will improve stabilisation but cannot beat a 3 axis gimble tbh

See the comparison between iPhone 13pro vs DJI OM5

      https://youtu.be/bgFh5PDgONA

Also a fully featured gimble that comes with dedicate app will provide extra features like object active tracking, motion Timelapse, short video content creations etc. The gimble control buttons will allow you to shot with smooth pan on different angles

Well known brands for these gimbles include DJI OM series and Zuiyun

  • Littlesoldier - I couldn't see any difference in the videos.
Dedicated apps may not be as good as in camera apps especially as in the Pixel 7 Pro which has some fancy features and in the case of Zuiyun Smooth X, lots of users complained about the app being invasive and buggy and they would prefer it not being obligatory..
So my final conclusion is reinforced. Thanks for your help.
Maybe the Bauhn does have two axis stabilization and we might find in the Aldi chuck out counter soon at half price but my local Aldi Manager is a real mean bean who hates to discount anything.

  • I bought it. The stablisation is piss poor. Doesnt quite work as advertised
