are we there yet ? not yet son, 2. inches to go

    • +5

They made it 98" so its less than the maximum number of inches to take on an airplane.

      • +4

For when you want to take your own inflight entertainment

      • I don't get it?

        • +3

Like how powerbanks have to be below 27,000 mAh to take on a plane so every manufacturer makes theirs like 26880 mah to comply.

  • +1

    I want 110"

  • +9

All good. What I need now is a coupon code for a house with big enough living room AND a coupon code for a 0.99% fixed rate mortgage!

    • +4

      For 50 years

    • +1

Did you use PRECOVID at checkout for that low interest rate?

  • +7

Half the PPI of a 24inch 1080p monitor. Would recommend sitting at least 50cm away if you're going to use as a monitor.

With your back against a chair, you should just barely be able to touch the TV with your finger tips.

    • 86" is the sweet spot for a 8k panel using 100% scaling (for Windows).

    • +2

Thanks, nearly bought it, but I'll need more PPI, I prefer to sit with my nose pressed against the screen.

    • +1

I've got a 75" TV and anything closer than 1m is getting into neck injury territory as you simply cannot see enough of the screen. If anyone wants to sit 50cm from a behemoth like this, be sure to buy yourself a neck brace at the same time.. you're gonna need it!

  • +5

Yep. Recommended viewing distance for a 98" screen showing 1080p content is almost 4.8m.

So, just install the TV in the dining room and watch it from the lounge room. šŸ˜

    • +2

Good for far-sighted people who don't want to wear glasses.

    • I am around the same 4-5m with my 1080p projector.

    • +4

Amazing value. You're getting a TV for 2 rooms for the price of 1!

    • So basically you have to watch it from neighbour living room.

  • -1

Can imagine the edge back lighting transition to nothing in the middle of this thing. Also chew more energy than the sun…pass!

  • +4

Considering getting this for the FIFA finals, and then return šŸ˜

    • +1

Why not the New Year's Eve fireworks and then return?

      • Not a bad idea. Going to see the fireworks in the city this year though!

  • We're almost at the point where Weird Al Yankovic's 1993 song has come true… Frank's 2000" TV: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gbDostWXpcU

  • do wonder how this compares to the 98" Hisense QLED U7HAU - that has HDMI 2.1, 120hz, etc as well. That was at HN black friday time for $5k plus 10% gift card, or Good Guys were willing to sell for $4750 outright.

Figured I should be looking at short throw projector instead (if can find the money for either). Separate deal link someone said they got the Hisense PL1H UST projector for $2400 from JB during Black Friday - but can't find any reviews on it (and an odd hisense with google TV versus VIDAA - almost have you thinking the were tryign to spruik a US spec'd model - but can't find any US model equivalent)

    • +1

got the Hisense PL1H UST projector for $2400 from JB during Black Friday

But you will need a good projector screen which over $1000 at least.

      • I think the ozbargain deal comment from someone who bought said he used the wall as had a dark room (so no need for ambient light rejecting screen let alone any screen) and he was impressed. I do have a normal projection screen on the wall (like 120") but the original 4k projector looks so washed out versus the Samsung QLED TV - not gotten myself to watch. So do wonder if that existing screen in cave type room (no windows) would work.

But other main challenge is JB isn't selling now for $2400 anymore - website has for $3995 as normal retail

        • +1

I found that LED TV still better than normal projector, short throw projector or laser.

OLED is king, but it's scary to think what one this size would cost.

    • QD OLED is the new king. Unfortunately only available in small sizes at present and a lot more expensive than OLED.

      • -1

You can buy a 65" QD OLED TV for currently $4995. I wouldn't call 65" as a small size TV. 32" is a small size TV. There doesn't seem to be a larger one however.

        https://www.jbhifi.com.au/products/sony-a95k-65-bravia-xr-qdā€¦

        • I remember when a 32" TV was huge.

          • @Mondorock: I'm still using a 46" LCD tv I got around 12 years ago now, 1080p w/ no smarts. (KDL-46EX500)
I absolutely hate it now haha, and i'm waiting for an A95k deal to come up.
Sadly I missed this one: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/745348
And I missed out when Sony was doing 12% CB on Black Friday sales.

Hoping for a good discount on Boxing day sales!

      • Oh yeah of course, guess I was lumping the two together.

        • -1

Nah. QD OLED is in a whole different league compared to ordinary OLED. It's now the real king of televisions and is also very expensive. A 65" QD OLED TV will set you back around $5000.

    • $40,000 for the LG 97" OLED.

  • for that money, consider the hisense 100" trichroma 4k laser tv which comes with the screen too.

  • 60kg… No problem, let's hang it above the fire place

    • +1

Anyone who thinks 60kg is heavy doesn't remember CRTs.

      • I hauled a 29 inch CRT yesterday, my god the thing would have been close to 60kg.

  • Who says bigger is not better
