Officeworks Scam with Regards to Parent Packs

Office works parent portal is a scam. They are charging more then you would get then if you put the same order through their website.

I have seen them charging $6 for chisel highlighters that on the website are $2.95

…saving their main account for the important topics… School uniforms, iPads and school fees

  • Hunting not that good at officeworks?…

According to this argument Good Guys Commercial has to be a scam too. Seen plenty of instances where their prices are more expensive than the TGG.

Seems to have triggered OP to move from their position to open an account to post this.

    Thanks for spelling stationery correctly.

      That moved me…

Time to quit the stationery puns jv.

        They aren't going anywhere.

  • +3

    Gerry, Is that you?

  • Its not a scam you are paying for the convenience. Someone has to be paid to pack these packs.

    • +2

Not saying its a scam, but someone also has to pick your order if you order online.

      • +9

So does Peter Piper pick the pack of packed papers?

        • +7

If Peter Piper picked the pack of packed papers, then where's the pack of packed papers that Peter Piper picked?

@Muzeeb: Ef. I was hoping it would be in my parent pack. Whata scam

    • +1

its no different to you putting yor order in through the website. Someone has to pick it there also.

What is the parent portal? What does it do that the normal website doesn't?

    • +5

      What is the parent portal?

It allows parents to quickly go from store to store..

      • Speaking of portal, it's on ozb as a game deal for $1 atm. Save your coin and just don't buy the markers. Buy the game instead.

    • +1

It asks if you're over 18

Edit: my bad. I though you mentioned officejerks

You upload your school book list and Officeworks will supply the items. If you find a lower price on an identical stocked item on an official school list, we will beat it by 20%

What OP is saying the Parent Portal prices are higher than the normal Officeworks prices.

      • -3

are you also complaining for the items that are lower priced too?

        • +5

I'm not complaining at all, merely answering stringbean402's question -

What is the parent portal? What does it do that the normal website doesn't?

      • I see…. I guess what your paying the extra for is for them to spend the time reading your photo of the list taken on your potato camera, entering your booklist into their system and then picking and packing your order. That's the price of convenience.

Can always go instore and pick and pack the list yourself? They do offer to price match any official school list (they offer the same level of service). Shopping in store is not the same thing.

I just found some more scam apps
Uber and others, they charge more then the store
Maccas and KFC apps, they charge more in the store

    • +2

they charge more then than the store FTFY

    • Macca's bit of a scam in itself. I never realised until I used the app that prices vary from store to store. I figured there might be differences between states but suburb to suburb? They must be using the petrol station sales formula…

greatest scam since the movie never ending story

Mr. Simpson, this is the most blatant case of fraudulent advertising since my suit against the film, "The Never-Ending Story"

      • +3

Hutz: Mrs. Simpson, in your own words, please tell us what happened after you and your husband were ejected from the restaurant.
Marge: We pretty much went straight home.
Hutz: Remember, Mrs. Simpson, you're still under oath.
Marge: We drove around until 3:00 in the morning looking for another open all-you-can-eat seafood restaurant.
Hutz: And when you couldn't find any?
        Marge: (crying) We went fishing!
Hutz: Ladies and gentlemen of the jury, do these sound like the actions of a man who's had ALL he could eat?
Fat Juror: That could have been me!

        • I don't use the term hero often…

Please supply a link to the "Parent Packs" that can be bought from Officeworks as searching for "parents packs" results in no hits on the OW site.

        - OP, probably.

They are charging more then you would get then if you put the same order through their website.

    Then order direct, and save.

Our kids stationery pack was going to be $136 + $16 postage.

I added the items to my cart on Officeworks and it was half the price and free delivery.

It's definitely worth spending the 5 minutes to do it manually.

  • I don't think its a scam, just normal business practice. Where do they state that it will be cheaper to do it through the portal?

Also, you have to remember that they will probably be making a "donation" to the school for setting them up as a preferred supplier or something.

    • "donation"

Next up.. school canteen sponsored by McD

  • +2

OP, is it possible for you to give the portal a miss? That'd probably save some angst and hand wringing.
