WD site is saying CMR
All WD Red Plus drives are CMR
https://www.tomshardware.com/news/wd-lists-all-drives-slower…
Not reds are CMR
WD has red, red plus, and red pro series. These drives are red plus, not reds
@Laeneris: Thank you for the info.
I had no idea about CMR vs SMR until yesterday.
I regretfully purchased these used drives of eBay yesterday
https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/295429570156 and a friend asked me to make sure they weren't CMR.
Now I ended up buying 3 of these pro drives as well 🤣😂
Cheers. Have had the 4TB Blue at $125 waiting for boxing day but this is better.
Is this good for NVR 4k reolink secuity camera system? Or purple wd is better?
Purple is specifically designed for nvr
Agreed. Happy to pay the extra $$ for WD Purple. Haven't seen any deals on these for a while now.
These are in the supported list and also listed as recommended.

"For Western Digital, there are three series that can be recommended: Red, Gold Enterprise, Purple Surveillance"
I would go for this
Thanks mate for the info
sorry for my ignorance.
it doesnt look noticably cheaper than sata SSD.
what makes this price reasonable?
These are mainly used in home servers that are intended to be left on 24/7
when running 24/7 NAS HDD better than SSD?
When $ matter
4tb SSDs hover around the $400 mark so this is a great price for that level of storage
sorry was confused with 2TB and too late to edit
BX500 2TB is most likely QLC and DRAMless. Not only that, due to the use of SATA3 and Crucial opted for a 4 channel controller, you could be looking at 85MB/s on BX500 once the SLC cache runs out. That's worse than this HDD in terms of writes. Not to mention BX500 2TB is still $51 more expensive than this 4TB HDD.
This is 4tb? Where are you finding 4tb ssd for 120 lol cause I want some at that price
Hi, hope some one can guide. have a WD mycloud 2nd Gen with 2TB. Was working fine and its seems brick with red light.. current one is 2 TB WD RED. Can any previous owner confirm if I can swap 2 TB with 4 TB? or it wont work due to firmware or any other limitations?
I’m in the same boat. Was searching online and found this page: https://superuser.com/questions/1003831/is-it-possible-to-up…
So it looks like it should work.
PS: check the last two answers
ZX notion from the SN means it has 128MB cache
PX will have 256MB

Any 8TB deals?
I want one, but will Amazon pack it properly? Or will they run it over with a forklift 100 times before delivering it to me?
Yeah, this would be my number one concern. Floating in a box with some paper to hold it steady.
With all their half-baked ai/laser tech shemozzling you'd think we'd get at least 1/5 packages delivered in the:
and placed up-RIGHT!
8TB is the sweet spot these days but this is still a good deal
I thought 14TB was.
We gave up on WD Red drives. Were replacing them in NAS units every 1-2 years. They just didn't last… ?
Ive had similar experience the last few years.
'We'?
What brand did you switch to?
Thanks OP. Now to wait for a DS920 sale.
Currently showing $116.84 each, having dropped 12 cents in the time I've been looking at the page. :P
Hi folks,
I just received the 12TB WD Red Plus from Amazon US via AU. The packing was alright, not marks on the package which could suggest of any physical damage but have found a very small mark on the side plastic body. I am currently running the surface test on it, so far no bad sectors or anything .. Do I need to worry about that small mark?
smr?
