CHUWI HiPad Max (10.36", Android 12, 8GB/128GB, SD680, Widevine L1) US$206.99 (~A$307.35) Delivered @ Chuwi Official AliExpress

Back with yet another tablet deal and this time it's on this 10.36" tablet that features something else a lot of these lower tier brands don't have - Widevine L1 DRM and certification. This means that the tablet is able to play Netflix in HD instead of SD. Another standout feature is that Chuwi have opted to use a Qualcomm Snapdragon 680 CPU instead of the usual budget MediaTek and UNISOC CPUs.

Featuring Android 12 with Google Play, 10.36" 2000x1200 IPS display with 400nits brightness, 8GB RAM, 128GB storage (microSD support), Qualcomm Snapdragon 680 Octa-core CPU, Adreno 610 GPU, 7000mAh battery with USB-C, 4G LTE with Dual SIM, 5MP Front Camera, 8MP Rear Camera, Quad Speakers, WiFi ac, Bluetooth 5.0, GPS and FM Radio.

For reviews ETA Prime has covered it well including the Widevine L1 DRM. In summary it's a good tablet for general use, media consumption, as well as gaming and emulation.

  • I bought this for $280 from the last deal. While it's a good deal but do note that it does have some software issues e.g. some apps start in portrait mode. It feels like the phone OS has been modified to run on a tablet.

    • I think that was this one

      • No, just checked, it was the same in this deal:

        2022 CHUWI HiPad Max 10.36-inch Fullview Display Snapdragon 680 Octa-core 8GB DDR4 128GB ROM 4G LTE GPS Android 12 Tablet PC
        Item No 8154372703564581

        • +1

Some apps going into portrait is more the app devs not allowing their apps to be in landscape. There are apps that can force it but it's not perfect.

        • Most likely seller put some dodgy other tablet rom into this one to be the 'global english' edition instead of the official chinese rom.

    • Have you tested the same apps on other tablets?

      • +3

Yes I have, those apps work fine on my Lenovo P11 Pro 2021.

        • +1

Damn that's disappointing. Lenovo certainly have a much better baked ROM then.

  • good luck in getting the seller for warranty issues, I've had one that has stopped replying and aliexpress support just giving me the usual reach around bs

    • +4

      Reach around 😏

    • Try bank/CC reversal.

      • has that ever worked? I didn't think the bank helps out in these scenario especially if paid using debit card. Kind like the same if did eft to a wrong account, bank is like we can only "try"

        • Worked 3 times for me with ANZ.
Their Customer Resolution Team 1800 805 154 tends to by the most helpful.

I think there is a 180 days limit to do a reversal though.

I had a doogee tablet die randomly after a few days, took about two weeks with AliExpress wanting detailed video evidence proving it was dead and seller not wanting to refund. Eventually they sided with me and i got the refund, luckily paid with PayPal, so if aliexpress feel through i had that Avenue open aswell.

      • yes I should of used paypal

I don't know about others, but I bought a Chuwi pad previously that bricked itself just after a year or so. It is the only tablet I've ever had that killed itself in such a short period of time so either I'm super unlucky or their QC is suspect.

    • Bet the first to go was the charging port!

  • +4

Id just get a samsung tablet if we talking these sorr of prices

  • Yes it's type C for those wondering

  • +2

nothing has topped the lenovo xiao xin pro after so long

never wasting money on a chuwi ever again

    • A real shame they're so hard to come by now. Ceased production and so few sellers with stock.

      • so what is the best budget choice with stylus support? I got an active stylus with my Win Max 2, and realised I REALLY love it, and would love a pad I could lay flat on the table and write on it.

        • +3

Unfortunately stylus support is where my knowledge sort of ends. I haven't really ever used them much so I don't really look for it in tablets. Samsung will always be the best out of the Android tablets for stylus support. Lenovo tablets with their precision pens come 2nd I believe and from what I've seen the Xiaomi Pad 5 with its stylus works well too.

          • +1

@Clear: I bought a Lenovo P11 plus recently from mobileciti for $349.95 delivered and it included the Lenovo precision pen 2 which retails for $50

Stylus works well.Tablet is decent for the price.

            • @techno2000: just curious was that a black friday sale or similar? thats a damn good price, currently its $499

              • +1

@azza1200: I had a look at the bill again and I actually paid $359.10 on 28/12/22

The price at that time was $399 and a 10% off code was available on the mobileciti website.

  • Can I use this as a portable screen to connect to a laptop¿

    • +5

Yep you can use pretty much any Android phone or tablet as a portable monitor with an app. fabman uses SuperDisplay which looks to be good. I've used Spacedesk previously and that was pretty smooth.

      • +1

        Thanks clear.

  • +2

Just saying. Has anyone noticed how on fire Clear is at the moment with deals?

    • +3

My 2022 stats was 749 deals posted. I need to top that this year :P

      • any deals on gan chargers and powerbanks (that can charge laptops 60w+?)

        • Doesn't seem to be anything good looking at the tags GaN Charger and Power Bank. Hopefully Zyron have some GaN deals again soon. I'd get shot if I recommended Heymixshit.

      • do you get paid to post deals. soo many 749.

        • Nah. I tick associated where required.

  • any chance who knows whether this support external monitor? via type-C or HDMI

    • Not supported.

Writing this on my 2nd Chuwi Hi9 Pro.

After dropping my first one, I had little hesitation in replacing it with another.

Great value for money smaller tablet, with my only complaint being the battery, which dies rapidly after getting down to about 20% on both of them.
