Well I do agree it's possible to cop it on the shins if not careful.
Dig them in at an angle. There's often/usually no need to rev the guts out of your motor, or even be in first gear to extricate a vehicle. Lowering tyre pressure is also recommended for soft sand driving.
Easily got my sis-in-law out of sand bog on Fraser.
user error, it should be placed infront of the wheels for it to climb up the ramps, not flat under the tyre so its throws it back…
Only the red ones mate - they go faster
I'd still be stuck on the beach in SA or claimed by the tide if not for recovery tracks. Front pair spat out straight under the rear tyres and gave a nice extra giddyup. Poetry in motion.

Perfect on sand. These need to be right in under the tyre, you will melt the knobs off if you spin the wheels on them.
Drop your tyre pressure too.

Common misconception of people buying these for sand driving. They will not help you on sand, just get spat out the rear dangerously into people's shins.
Can work on mud and snow but not sand. Don't buy these for Stockton Beach.
