  • Anyone know more about this. Is this a good deal?

    Looks like good specs

  • Screen is very good.. Otherwise also looks like a good deal. Depends on how many watts is the Graphics? 90W or 130W?

    • It appears to be 75W from what I could see but YT reviews showed it had no trouble playing some modern titles at or above the limits of the display's 60fps limit.

It also seems to have a very premium build, good, loud sound, Windows Hello camera, fingerprint sensor, decent port selection, and good thermal/noise management. I'm actually somewhat tempted, but its outclassed by its own next gen successors (which are also wildly expensive).

    Only 60hz display? But 3060

    • but high resolution. 400 nits, and good color.

      HP Victus was a better deal 144hz 100%srgb 16” screen, 16gb ram, 5800h paired with 3060 graphics $1098

This OP deal has aluminium case…

      • Fundamentally different laptop - one is a gaming laptop, one is a business laptop. Horses for courses.

    • It’s a workstation more designed for CAD work than gaming

Looking for comparison against this popular deal

    Kraken M15 (Intel NUC X15) Q Essential GeForce i7 11800H/RTX 3060/QHD 165hz Gaming Laptop $1199 Shipped @ BPC Tech

Seems to be a pretty good deal, has a second ram slot and a second nvme slot for upgrades
Doesn't seem to actually require zip pay as my purchase went through with Klarna for those people who don't have $1000+ limit with zip pay

That laptop is sold out and never coming back, wish I nabbed it.

      • +1

Correct. That was an end of line sale

    • +4

The Kraken is a gaming laptop. The Thinkbook is for professionals.

      1. Thinkbook CPU is much more power efficient
      2. Screen is 60hz, 400nits, but colour calibrated for designing (X-Rite Pantone factory colour calibration)
      3. The 3060 is more power limited and not really meant for gaming but professional applications.
      4. Thinkbook chassis is business grade vs retail consumer grade of the Kraken.

If you want a gaming laptop get the Kraken, when available .If you want a work laptop, with decent battery life and some gaming capabilities get the Thinkbook.

      • I think the kraken must've nearly been the lightest and thinnest full power 3060 +CPU laptop you could get, at least without paying a lot extra. Every other laptop with the same power limits is a good 500+g heavier and 5mm+ thicker!

        • HP Victus deal was equally popular

        • Sure, but lighter and thinner = more noise. It's pretty simple.

          • @mctubster: Most gaming laptops sound like jet engines under full load anyways

      • +1

Agree. This is more a work laptop

  • Damnnn is there a 5800h deal? That would be perfect!
    Edit: RIP $750 extra :(

    • Lenovo Store has that same 5800H selling for $1,999 delivered, but after using CashRewards Cashback of 9% you would be looking at approx $1,820 delivered …. that renders the cost around $415 more than getting this 5600H delivered

    • +1

HP Victus deal had 5800H with 3060 graphics $1098

      • +3

I could be wrong, but i thought the Victus lids flap around like an outside dunny door during 100km/h winds

        • A non issue on a stable surface.

      • Yes definitely much better value, although with worse build quality and heavier, but imo that alone isn't worth $300.

        • The build quality is very good for plastic. The screen flop is the only negative if using on a non stable surface (eg lap, moving vehicle)

  • Found a good overview

Just a heads up that GST might be payable at the border as this would be an import over $1,000

    • +2

Damn, that's less appealing. According to reviews, Australian buyers were indeed charged GST.

This seems like an incredible deal.

I've already got a laptop but i'm tempted to sell it for this.

This thing on par with my desktop i could sell that too.

  • Also available for roughly the same price at MyDeal (accounting for GST and slightly cheaper postage).

  • Easy to upgrade the RAM in this? Can you replace the 8GB SO-DIMM with a 32GB?

    • Yep, although only 16GB will be run in dual channel so not as good as 2x16gb sticks. It also uses torx head for the case.

      • One ram unit is soldered, so upgrading may be a downgrade in performance as you'd lose
the DDR tech, 16gb should be enough for anyone!

  • Apart from the odd case of the fan rubbing on the fan casing, these are solid units, the hinges are decent and unlikely to break and good specs for the $
