I like the Citizen Ana/Digi Temp watch. Quirky and cool.
Wish it didn't have "ANA/DIGI TEMP" written in the bottom right corner though, they felt the wearer needed to be reminded that theres Temp reading? Kinda looks out of place, they should have just put the citizen logo or something.

Edit: Oh it's inspired by Citizen. So looks like a reproduction by another brand.

          Gold… PERFECTION

          • +2

            @Jimothy Wongingtons: "Gold… PERFECTION"

I prefer stealth/understated look. The only reason I would get a brighter coloured bezel is if the face could benefit from blending some lighter and darker black elements. I think the lighter bezel helps to frame those black elements together and flatten the blacks.

Which is why I went with this colour for my GBD200. The time display is already large enough, but the light coloured bezel gives the effect of the display being larger than it is. https://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/2000/5219/products/Handsco…

The Ana/Digi Temp is one of those face's though that I think you can appreciate the difference blacks between all those dials.

But if you like Gold that's fine. I will try to remember that difference we have in opinion. 😁

            • +2

@harshbdmmaster718: (profanity) it, I'm getting the black and gold as well

            • @harshbdmmaster718: Yoooo just added GBD200 to my wish list! Hadn’t come across this one before. The white black contrast is clean as.

              • +2

@Jimothy Wongingtons: "The white black contrast is clean as."

If you are referring to the display yes contrast is great, one of the best thanks to it using an MIP display. Which manages to have much higher contrast than the usual LCD's while still using very little power, in fact I think MIP is even more efficient. Also another plus is better viewing angles and it is much much easier to read in all lighting conditions.

Another unique aspect and the reason I love the GBD200 from the new G-shock Move series with MIP is the large time font. Which is just light years ahead of the traditional small time font size of most Casio's. Before it was delivered I thought maybe it looks bigger than it is in the pictures, but once I got it I realized no it's big and even the font design is brilliant. The only thing I didn't expect, was when inspecting the display closely and tilting it back and forth, I can see a bit of a thin rainbow effect going on around the edges of the digits kind of like a tiny bit of chromatic aberration. Can't see it when it's on my wrist but yeah it's just a thing I guess.

Other than that the only downsides of the watch are.
                1. the Bluetooth notifications are bare minimum, e.g. a message will just show the icon and contact name and the only thing you can do is dismiss it. You can do a few button presses to preview the message content, but honestly it's quicker to pull out your phone. It would have been nice to have even just a 1 line preview to get some content from the initial message notification.
But yeah I am getting used to it now, I think it's less distracting because I only spend half a second looking at my wrist. I can just decide to take my phone out if I think it's urgent.
                2. The battery life from CR2032 is only 2 years. But that's with bluetooth paired to your phone and a tonne of other estimate uses, e.g. 20 notifcations per day, 12 hours of bluetooth link (while it's detecting movement on your wrist), 12 hours of step counting per day, illumination once per day, Alarm once per day etc. So yeah battery life is on the short side. Maybe that's why they didn't include initial notification previews because they wanted to save every breadcrumb to get that 2 year estimate.
And 3. is only really for Casio fans. But there's no hourly beep option.

Also there is the GBX100 which is an older "surfer" model, basically the same watch but it has a slightly softer resin band and slightly different programming in the same shape module. It does everything the GBD200 can do plus it has Sunrise Sunset times and Tide graph info. Yeah I know older model module does more lol.
Also it has a squarer cornered metal bezel (it's just the top ring). Which you might prefer the look of or not.
If you want the same popping and larger display illusion on the GBX, maybe go for the light silver metal bezel ring. (I didn't like how only the "Start" text was painted in blue on the GBX though)

I previously discovered few deals on the GBX100 have been posted here.

                • @harshbdmmaster718: This guy G-Shocks.

I just found this: https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/324180436886, who is https://scarce.co/, who also happens to my mate of 20+ years. I just texted him to save me one, and he always gives me mate's rates. I buy G-Shocks from other sites, but always check his site first. If the difference it too much I don't wanna be that guy who's like, "well this site only sells it for $X"

Check out https://scarce.co/, there's heaps of cool stuff. I miight get him to post a deal to get rid of old stock, I've seen his "stock room" he has walls of G-Shocks

                  • @rosebank: Hey alright I think I have come across one of his eBay listings before the username looks familiar.

Not to step on your mates toes, but I got a great deal on a grey import GBD200 from FirstClassWatches AU (UK based store) by waiting for the price to come down and applying a 15% off code CASIO15.
The code was apparently only meant to work on Casio's because there is another G-shock code for only 10% off, so they might have closed that loophole but yeah.
It was a great price for the colour I wanted, watch arrived via DHL in 2 to 3 days. But of course it's grey import so not good if you want to support local. The price of certain colourways sometimes just do not come down.

Honestly if prices are consistent with what I am seeing on your mates eBay store, instead of mates rates I would be happy with just a heads up before a 20% code can be applied. That would bring it down to within a few dollars to what I paid.
Edit: Sorry not for the cream white GBD200UU-9 though haha, which is the colour I got and could not find for a good price.

                    • @harshbdmmaster718: There's a bunch of 200s on https://scarce.co/collections/sale for $243. How much is on from FirstClass with the discount?

                      • @rosebank: Sorry was adding this to previous comment.

But yeah the $220 to $240 priced GBX100/GBD200's with possible 20% off eBay code would bring them down close to what I paid. Which was between $170 to $180 shipped (International shipping was free).

Prices on FCW AU are always changing. Certain markings also mean code's won't apply. I can't remember exactly but I think if it has the red "Sale" text code's won't apply. I managed to wait around until the one I wanted was discounted with crossed out price, but without the red text. So code applied.

By the way I think no pressure in getting your mate to offer deals. The GBD200 models in particular sell very well to consumers, so I don't think much motivation is needed. Better than having huge losses anyway.

I was just on a tight budget and close to $200 would be the most I have ever spent on a G-shock/watch so I was being really tight about it. Wasn't in any rush to get it either.

                        • @harshbdmmaster718: $180 is prob what I'll pay for the 100. Scarce has the GBD200UU-9 for $255, it looks nice.

Yeah there's supposed to be an ebay 20-22% code on Monday.

                        • @harshbdmmaster718: I'll ask him, I'm sure there are models that he hates looking at and wouldn't mind getting rid of

                          • @rosebank: Yeah fair enough. There will definitely be slow movers. I know from looking at the Casio global website lol. Some weird colour combos out there.
Just to let you know I am not really in the market for a watch right now.
Just got the GBD200UU-9D a few months ago, so it will be on my wrist for the next few years at least.
(I am an always wearer, not a collector)
I picked up the $50 Casio recently just to try modding it. Didn't want to work on an expensive watch for my first mod attempt. The result looks good though.

                        • @harshbdmmaster718: " The GBD200 models in particular sell very well to consumers,"

                          Forgot to type,

Reasons why GBD200 is appealing and a popular seller. It looks definitively like a digital watch, built for purpose it is what it is. Not too flashy or busy in it's design. It does those main things a watch does very well, which is keep time, easy to read and durability. It's light weight and not too large on the wrist. Easy to work on and maintain for beginners.
Honestly I might be speaking from how much I paid for it, but I think this watch will get the most years on my wrist of any Casio so far. I can't fault it and will probably use it as long as it lasts.

                • @harshbdmmaster718: Just worth mentioning.

If you never pair it up to your phone/app then you will likely get better battery life. Possibly a more standard 3 to 4 years with a good CR2032 (I know it's luck of the draw when it comes to buying these). The only thing you will be losing out on is auto BT time sync, detailed activity data and notifications. I am liking the experience for now so I am happy to change the battery myself and perform AC reset.

FYI Panasonic CR2032 that are sold in Japan (with different packaging) and that come in G-shocks are also made in Indonesia, you can buy them on Amazon AU. I have heard Energizer Ultimate Lithium (Blue packaging) are really good as well, but a comparison will take me 6 years lol.
Do not use Duracell coins they have a childproof coating which messes with the contact and lowers transmitted voltage (new Duracell cells give low battery warning in airtags).

                  • @harshbdmmaster718: "The only thing you will be losing out on is auto BT time sync, detailed activity data and notifications."

Sorry for comment city here. But forgot to mention, losing out on these would not be much of an issue. I managed to get by just fine setting the time manually every 6 to 12 months on all my previous Casio's it's a non task. I don't need to see any more detail than I can already see on the fitness activity screens on the watch, and notifications are bare minimum so you could get by without. These BT features are really just luxuries, e.g. never having to set time manually.

                • @harshbdmmaster718: Mate, a little off topic, went down the rabbit hole reading your comments. Was looking for a g-shock with solar, but ended up seeing this. Any thoughts at all?
EDIT: Bummer, price was in USD :(

                  • +1

@Rorschach: "EDIT: Bummer, price was in USD :("

Yeah you pay a huge premium for those Solar or Atomic time synchronization features.

For example if/when they release the solar version of the GBD200 it will likely cost over double the amount compared to the regular version I have (retail vs retail).

      • +2

Needs solar power. And a laser for melting locks.

    • +1

It says inspired by an original Citizen watch from the 80s. That doesnt mean it's a reproduction by another brand - a model from a brand can be inspired by an older model from the same brand.

      • Oh ok my bad. Should have used google to confirm it first.

I just thought it could have been a reproduction since they used the ANADIGI TEMP text instead of the Citizen logo.

        • No worries, all good.

(Does have the citizen logo on the bottom left panel of the main face, fwiw)

I have the OG version of the watch. The problem is the calendar only goes to year 2019 then resets to 1980.

    • They were probably just happy it didn't stop with the Y2K bug.

    • totes jellz

    • Yep. This re-release address's that. I believe it goes from 1999 to 2099.

I think thats the only difference between it and the original?

    • 1980 was a very good year.

  • $385
    -Mineral Crystal Glass
    -30m Water Resistant

    • "Mineral Crystal Glass"

Nothing wrong with mineral glass. IMO it is real glass so that's good.
Just got a $50 Casio which has Resin glass. It is a nightmare every time I go to wipe the watch. I was outdoors and I wiped it without blowing dust off first and I thought I made a permanent scratch. Luckily I didn't but every time that's how it feels.

  • Is the temperature gauge accurate? Wondering if that is a sensor at the front to measure the temp of the actual current temp where you are rather than having to take the watch off like with Casio.

    • I believe your supposed to take it off for 20 minutes for it to tell a more accurate reading.

    • I thought the little button (?) was a mini speaker at first and I thought I have no idea what the boys in R & D had in mind but I am ON BOARD. 👏

  • Great if you want to know the temperature of your wrist

  • It's so ugly though
