AOC Monitor 34 Inch Curved VA or Flat IPS?

Hi, just wanting some opinions on these two models:

34 inch UQHD flat ips
https://www.scorptec.com.au/product/monitors/34-inch-and-abo…

34 inch UQHD curved VA
https://www.scorptec.com.au/product/monitors/34-inch-and-abo…

Has anyone had any experience with either monitor (or similar ones), I’m mainly going to be using it for gaming and studying as well, I’m leaning towards the IPS one but any feedback is appreciated.

Happy to hear suggestions for any better alternatives too.

Thanks

Go for the flat. More accurate colours (91 vs 98% dci-p3), (I prefer a flat panel>curved anyday), and less ghosting according to my research.

Reporter speed is the same but it's the errors and ghosting that you should be worried about versus "1ms instant speed!".

Go for your preference but I prefer the flat for those reasons.

    • I prefer flat too, and all the previous monitors I used were IPS. I’m just worried at this size/width that the sides might be hard to view without eye strain?

  • Flat IPS for sure

In my experience a flat VA has washed out colours depending on viewing angle. e.g. if you are sitting close to a large 32"+ monitor you might notice the left and right edges or corners getting washed out colour.

But in your link it's a curved VA, so maybe you won't experience that? Can someone else comment if this might be true?

  • I have the 34" Flat IPS you've linked in this post. I've always preferred IPS panels vs VA so I preferred to get the flat IPS over the curved. The biggest thing that was a heavy adjustment was the aspect ratio change being 21:9 and some older games not supporting that aspect ratio at all (unless you do modding etc).

It's otherwise been a great experience, I found FPS games to not be too much of an adjustment coming from a 27" monitor (the gold standard for FPS I would say). Strongly recommend it at $520, these monitors were well over $1200 5 years ago!

    • How’s the monitor for browsing or watching movies etc ?

      • It's great, insane amount of space, really good for full screen YT.

I had to fiddle with the HDR a bit but overall its been a great upgrade from a 27" 1440p monitor.

        • Yeah I’m upgrading from the Dell 27inch qhd one as well… does the larger size affect the resolution much? Like screen clarity?

    IPS
    - vibrant colour
    - better viewing angle (VA are good enough unless you sit like 30 degrees off angle from the monitor)
    - faster pixel response
    - IPS glow-in-dark environment
    - low contrast/washed-out blacks

    VA
    - better contrast/deeper blacks (basically the only reason to choose VA over IPS)
    - poor pixel response time, Noticeable black smearing depending on quality of panel
    - washed-out colour

    I have this: https://www.scorptec.com.au/product/monitors/34-inch-and-abo…

It's essentially the VA panel you linked but with an even stronger curve (1000R).

I was also debating flat/curved and IPS/VA as you are now but I decided to take the punt for the curved VA.

I'm loving it, ultrawide is amazing for gaming and the curve really adds to the immersion. I do wonder if your eyes would tire on a flat 34" screen though.

If you want something closer to your current setup (I'm assuming it's the S2721DGF) then I'd probably go with the flat IPS. I had the Dell and it was great but so many friends were singing praises for ultrawide so I caved.

    • Thank you that’s very helpful. I like the flat for the productivity purposes but not sure if it even makes a difference. Gonna try the curved in store today
