$1000 Gaming PC Build Help

Hi Everyone :)

Needing assistance with gathering parts for my new PC.

I have a budget of $1000, so hopefully i can keep within my budget. Most parts will be purchased from MSY.

PC will be used specifically for Gaming/University

Due to my budget i'm not too sure how much i should be spending on the CPU/Motherboard/GPU. I'd like my PC to last me at LEAST 2-3 years

This is what I've listed so far. Empty spots are open for suggestions/recommendations. Not sure if I've missed out on any other requirements (Don't worry about Monitor/Mouse/Keyboard)

CPU:Intel Core i5-3570k ($236)
MOTHERBOARD: (Prefer Standard Board – Asus/Gigabyte)
RAM:G.Skill Ares 1333 or Ripjaws-X 1333 ($55 or $54)
GPU: (Nvidia/ATI doesn't bother me)
HDD:Seagate 2TB ($118)
PSU:Antec Neo Eco 520C ($66)
CPU COOLER:Coolermaster Hyper 212 EVO ($37)
CASE:
ODD: DVD Burner ($21)

Thanks Everyone!

  • RAM: cheaper the better, value ram is just as good.
    GPU: GTX 670!
HDD: Get a small SSD for OS/games as well ~$120
Case: are you worried about computer noise? If you are, look into a fractal R3 or the like.

    ODD: DVD Burner

I'm not familiar with this item. Some sort of antique?

Also I think you'd get a better response if you post it on whirlpool which has a whole sub forum dedicated to these questions.

    • So you wouldn't recommend a coolermaster or an Antec for quietness?

    • Don't bother with an SSD the difference in load times will be a couple of seconds and won't improve FPS.
Also you're on a budget so wait for the future and adopt a SSD.

I also built a system around your mark around 4-5 months ago and I opted for a HDD.

      • I've actually built my system already

        • lol nvm then, damn posts getting bumped up.

        • all good :)

  • I totally forgot about Blu ray! Blu-Ray player preferred :)

    • dont forget about the software required to play the media also.. not as straight forward as you think [to do on the cheap].

  • why get the 3570k?
its performance is very similar to the 2500k.. and in some test does worse.. =S
save urself the money and get a better graphics card (maybe a 6950 or 6870).. =)

  • +1

Hilman I might just copy exactly wat ur gonna do hehe. I need a new desktop bout that price but would defy get ssd

    • I've actually finished my build a week and a half ago. Here it is

      CPU:Intel Core i5-3570k
      MOTHERBOARD: GB Z77X-D3H
      RAM:G.Skill Ares 1600 8GB
GPU: GB 2GB OC GTX 670
      HDD:Seagate 1TB
      PSU:Antec Neo Eco 620C
      CPU COOLER:Coolermaster Hyper 212 EVO
      CASE: CM HAF 912A
      ODD: DVD Burner

It ended up being around $1300

  • I bought nearly an identical build, but got an SSD instead.

    Mine was 1530.

    Can't beat the Gtx 670!!!

    • I bought a SSD just the other day, can't wait for it to come :)

  • which store are you buying from?

    • I've already built my new PC. Located in Perth, and bought from MSY, Austin & Storm Computers

Gona build around same build (Total $1211)

    CPU:Intel Core i5-3570k ($219)
    MOTHERBOARD: Asrock Z77-Extreme4 LGA1155 ($144)
    RAM: Ripjaws kit 1600 2x4GB ($49)
    GPU: Gigabyte HD7950 ($360)
    HDD:Seagate 2TB ($108)
    SSD: 120GB OCZ agility 3 ($92)
    PSU:Antec TruePower TP-650Watt ($120)
CASE: Thermaltake Dokker ATX Tower Case with SSD/HDD hotswap ($60)
    ODD: Bluray combo ($59)

    • I would get a better/faster SSD (Intel, Samsung, Crucial, Sandisk), and maybe another one for your games if you can afford it.

    • Nice build mate! Enjoy it :)

another SSD is good idea, I will scarify 2TB segate for another 120gb SSD and RAID them.
got a few external HDD laying around anyway, maybe take them out of the case and put in the tower hotswap.

OCZ 120gb and intel 520 around same read speed 525mb/s vs 550mb/s.
will stick to OCZ due to price…

Bad idea going for the OCZ… If price is an issue look at the Crucial M4 or Samsung 830, or gamble it on the SanDisk if you're desperate about price, but I wouldn't even touch an OCZ with a 10' pole.

And if you're going to RAID, the speed of the new drive doesn't matter, you only need it to match the speed of the current drive. And I thought it was a bad idea to RAID SSD's or was it there's no real benefit to doing so?

      • AFAIK most SSD's can't trim etc, Intel will soon be supporting this.

Either way the real world difference is not noticeable so I have no idea why someone would do it.

If you want speed, get 256-512GB SSD's for your whole system and pick a high end SSD brand.

Not to mention you have double the chances of losing your data in a RAID0 setup and any other RAID is a waste of a SSD.

        • Thanks guy, will not RAID then :)

  • I just built this,

    CPU: i5 3570K
    GPU: Gigabyte HD7950
    RAM: Corsair Vengeance 2x4GB
SSD: Sandisk Extreme 240GB SSD + 1TB WD
    MOBO: Asus Sabertooth z77
    CASE: Thermaltake Chaser MkI
    COOLER: Thermaltake spinQ VT
    PSU: Corsair TX-650M
    ODD: Bluray combo(already had)

    Total= $1340 delivered

    • Will that play the latest games? on full settings?

      • Mostly depends on your screen(s) resolution. For standard 1080 screens without AA yes. AA can always be turned up to stupid numbers at which point no system will play the latest games at full settings, so you can never really answer your question yes or no.

I think this is a sensible limit on performance/value (though a slightly lower end CPU would make little difference).
