Their facebook page suggests their customer service has really deteriorated in the last few months…

    Buyer beware…

    • Over the on the whirlpool forums its the same scenario. In the last 2 months I have seen more complaints about absolutely awful DWI customer service than I have in the 18 months I've been buying stuff from them. I've bought a stack of stuff from them and never a problem but looking t some of the stories floating around forums I might not buy from them again for a while.

And if you live in Perth, you can pick one up from Leederville Cameras for $199:

Picked one up over the weekend, and whilst I haven't had much of a chance to give it an extensive workout, I really do like what I've seen so far - the 40mm prespective, sharp wide open, and the size (or lack of anyways) of this pancake…

  • The DSLR prices are not bad…Anyone purchased from hehre before?

  • I've recently bought a camera from them and I was very satisfied.

  • I've bought numerous lenses from them but not any camera bodies (except a point and shoot).

My main concern with a body from overseas is warranty. Nikon/Canon don't do warranty on imported bodies for free however lenses do come with international warranty so you can in theory get local service.

    • I I'm not mistaken you only get warranty on lenses that have been bought from Authorised dealers.
I'm pretty sure DWI is not an one of those

    Canon EF 40mm f/2.8 STM,
    $230-$300 elsewhere

$300??? RRP for this lens is AUD$249.

  • I have a 50mm 1.8 I don't think its worth getting the 40mm 2.8 but that's just me.. if you need wider use your feet but then again somtimes you cant.. and thats where my 10 - 22mm comes in

    • Each to their own, I guess…I prefer the wider perspective, and my nifty fifty, which I have now sold, needed to be stopped down to f2.2-2.5 for decent sharpness, whereas this pancake lens is pretty damn sharp wide open…

      • this pancake lens is pretty damn sharp wide open…

Which is at f2.8 (widest aperture for this 40mm), you could stop down the 50mm to f2.8 to get similar sharpness! :-)
As some others have pointed out the advantage of this lens is the STM motor - for video.

        • And don't forget, it has a far better build quality than the 50mm, which is built like a toy…
It does still come down the personal preferences…I love the 40mm, but I also have a GAS (Gear Acquiring Syndrome) problem, so it is possible that that has compelled me to get it, and justify the acquisition in my head…:)

this lens was made to be used with the 650D, mainly for video mode adding auto focus to dslrs, hence the new motor in it for faster, quieter focus. if you try videoing and focusing with most other lenses youll hear this awful scraping noise in the video assuming youre using the onboard mic.
