Windows 11 truly is for dummies!
I was forced on to it when i needed new PC and what a downgrade in features from win10! So many little but important things missing and options to personalise they way you do things are gone. Microsoft are very slowly bringing them back with a big announcements saying how great the "new" feature coming to win11 is when it was in win10 already.
Using win 10 for work and win 11 at home i dont see anything missing from 10 thats in 11 but plenty in 10 missing in 11šŸ˜”

Fewer end-user features and toggles is great news for corporate IT help desks - mission accomplished.

      • That is true. They are following a certain company and really hiding or locking up a lot of intermediate to advanced features to make it easier to operate for computer novices and to minimise those people screwing things up when they randomly click things. There should be an advanced full control or basic install option.

          Linux.

@AlexF: Linux Mint Mate. Takes you back to simplicity with full control. Fast & smooth.

I see. Ok as someone else saying on the other thread,
      Im riding 10 till death

      • only if it win10 lite with all the bloat ware removed.
Windows11 was great in beta, quick boot up times, similar open thread counts as a win10 lite install… then they started adding all the bloat. :(

This mindset is essentially the polar opposite of mine.

Besides, if you like the look of 11, just mod 10 to look like 11.

    • Would you mind listing the major features missing from windows 10? I've been out of the loop for a long time.

I saw many upgrade to 11 offers but I've been declining it because I heard you couldn't create a local account and have to use a Microsoft account. Is this true or still true?

      • I use rufus to make installation usb which has options to install with local account.

      • Auto HDR, not much else.

      • If you turn off wifi after first setup step it will allow you create a local account. I flattened my work laptop to do just that.

    • If you think you were forced to use an OS then these books are for you.

    • For me the worst part of Win11 is not being able to have a functional setting for the Taskbar which lets me select 'never group the taskbar buttons' .. I have to use a 3rd party app to choose my buttons aren't all grouped together like some Neanderthal

      • Yeah I don't understand why MS removed never combine.

    • After I heard that it had a whole lot of built in advertising, plus the ā€œstealingā€ of default web browser back to Edge constantly, plus having to create a Microsoft account*, I wonā€™t be ever upgrading it I can help it. I use Linux most days though, only Win for work.

(* You can get past this apparently, when upgrading, canā€™t remember the exact sequence but your need to kill your internet connection just before that step)

    • Thanks.

  • Do I need this coming from Windows 7?
I normally Google when I have issues.

    • +1

Nope. If you're a competent windows user, Google is fine. Looking at the table of contents this is all extremely basic stuff.

I'd probably look up a few videos or articles with Windows 11 tips after upgrading.

  • How do I remove the recommended apps from the start menu? Oh wait, you canā€™t.

I really enjoyed this book. You see, Billy was a simple country boy. You might say a cockeyed optimist who got himself mixed up in the high stakes game of world diplomacy and international intrigue.

  • You can no longer pick a default app for everything it can run/open. You have to choose each possible file type! Such BS.

    Still on Vista

    • Vista Ultimate for life

    • Vistaā€™s UI is still more visually consistent than Windows 8 and laterā€¦

    • Pfft, still on XP.

  • I have a feeling Microsoft could use this book

  • Still on Win 7 lol

  • switched to win11 ages ago and honestly…its not even that bad. Its pretty good tbh
