infact they gave me the new white/silver model 1tb freeagent for $135 HAHAHA!

A $299 drive for $135 :P

all u have to do is print out a online quote from harris tech and take it to office works u prob won’t get the new model lik i did but you’ll definately be able to get the old black version

nah, no need scanned receipt, they didnt even take my HT printout. just bring the paper they more than happy to sell it to you for $135. just tried it 15mins ago at officework city.

surat, I purchased yesterday at the QV OW, they had 50+ stock, but they called HT to check. HT said they are out of stock but price is $135. Lucky that OW honours it.

I got it. They nearly gave me the Extrame version but the manager came in and told me I have gotten the wrong one. Dammit~! Anyway I am happy with it as it comes out to around $128. Good Stuff.

u gotta be really lucky and come across a noob serving to get the new silver DESK version rrp $250-299 otherwise they will just match the old black version.

just wondering what’s the difference between an old (black) and silver (new) drives ?
Both Seagate, both USB2.0. If they have SATA disks inside it won’t matter as the bottle neck is a USB interface not HDD.

Called various Melbourne (Mainly Eastern side) stores today with no luck as they all said they had to call the competitor, and even asked me to hold off for 24 hours since HT wouldn’t be open due to the holiday.
One store even asked me if my name was Ming or something and said he had been calling around stores trying to price match but they couldn’t do it as the product page is no longer on HT’s site and therefore can’t verify the price.
I also popped into Glen Waverley to try my luck and was served by a daniel douche with a in training tag, but he did everything by the book and really wasted my time trying to explain stuff I already knew.

If you guys have any luck with stores in Melbourne, please post up.

Just to answer a few questions in the above posts:
y_owez - as stated previously by another member, Officeworks matches the competitor’s price and beats it by a further 5%, but their policy is that the competitor must have it in stock, which we haven’t in our case. This means that they dont HAVE to match, but it would be nice to, hence spending my public holiday calling around hoping for some luck.

Someone asked about the difference between the old and the new model:

thanx for specs but according to rge data sheets old one and new one are absolutely identical : 1TB, usb2, 5 years warranty (I do not care about the color or 10g weight difference). Again I’ve got no idea what’s inside but as they are both Seagates the only difference that we can expect is SATA HDD in a new one. It would matter if enclosure had eSATA interface. For the ones with usb2 it is not critical as usb2 itself is a bottle neck not HDD interface.
BTW got one yesterday (old one) - it was not easy though.

Argghh….I broght the receipt, the guy cannot selling it to me eventhough has the receipt purchased previously because HT no longer selling at that price anymore hence price match no longer valid but thanks Dampires.
