    Stay away from swann..
Just check the app review on playstore..

    4k my a$$. 5MP Cameras with 4K upscaling

    • Sensor resolution doesn't mean much if the plastic lens in front of it isn't round…

Any recommendations for a better alternative?

    • Anything is better. Depending on your needs eufy is usually a good choice

      • -4

        Eufy is unsecured. Check google.

Go for Dahua. Maybe double this price but much better quality, longevity and they specialise in commercial grade CCTVs.

    • +2

      Reolink

      • Reolink has terrible warranty support. I've been trying to get an RMA performed for three weeks for a faulty product. They refuse to take ownership of the issue.

  • +6

Do yourselves a favour…. Don't even consider this overpriced rubbish

  • I find reolink to be quite okay. App is easy to use too

    • Terrible warranty support.

    • Yes to Reolink cameras. I’ve used some of their products over the years and find them quite reasonable in price, features and they are easy to setup and use too

  • JB clearing wired stock before the wireless stock arrives.
Not good value. Like others have said, app is garbage.

Best advice is to never purchase any Swann Profucts, ever.

    • Afaik I'll never buy a profuct anyway

    Thanks all for the recommendations.
    I've added "warning - don't purchase"

Gold. Well done OP, that's some serious humility.

  • Try tp-link VIGI NVR1008H or VIGI NVR1008H-8MP with IP cameras of your choice. Overall cost less than $500

It was at this price few times last year. Not the best ones. I have purchased and returned due to poor video quality when tested before installing and the UI is decades old.

    • +1

Thanks for the info. Glad you could return.

It is deceptive that Swann claims to be "a global leader". JB Hi-Fi writes this.

Quote: Swann is a global leader in security monitoring, consumer electronics and security-centric solutions for the smart homes and businesses of today and tomorrow.

Never had a swann system, but to be honest my parents dahua systems UI feels like it is from the 90s.
I personally use arlo and the apps are day and night.
I wish there was a good quality wired system (24x7 recording) that had a UI like Arlo.

  • Can anyone recommend a good PoE set?

    • +1

Reolink, Dahua, Hikvision. I always recommend that you DYOR though.

      • -1

        Reolink has terrible warranty support.

  • Reolink

    • -1

      Terrible warranty support.

      • Smoof easy UI

      • What do you recommend?

      • You've said that four times now.

No issues with the Reolink systems I've installed. I'll be moving to Reolink when my 5mp Swann system dies or goes end of life, unless HIKVision gets closer in price.

        • As I can't get an RMA for a six month old broken product I'm more than happy to inform people of my terrible experience before they purchase.

  • Not sure of the hate on Swann - bang for buck I got this around three years ago and it's done me just fine.

    Swann 8 Channel 5MP CCTV - NVR-8580, 2TB HDD, 4x5MP SWNHD-866MSD - https://au.swann.com/swnhd-866msd/

What I love is it's 24x7, no subscriptions, app might suck compared to others but it works and I can remote in any time to check. For those on a budget, Swann isn't totally shit as many make it out to be. And if you can get wired, get wired. Once you've had to charge a camera many times, you'll get over it :)

    • Yeah that's the one I have too, great system for the $800 I spent (6+2 cameras though). The hate I think is the false advertising here - it's not 4k. And I don't like that's Swann EOLed a wifi camera I had, rendering it completely unusable.
